Description
Sept. 7, 1937.- w J, MYRES 2,092,222
HOLSTER Filed 001;. l, 1936 Inventor A iiomeys Patented Sept. 7, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application October 1,
1 Claim.
This invention relates to a holster or scabbard for sidearms such as a pistol or the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a holster which may be suspended from the belt in a manner to give a quick draw from a fixed position of the holster.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide a reinforcement for holsters of the extended belt loop type whereby the latter will be rendered more satisfactory and desirable.
The above objects are obtained by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:-
Figure l is a side View of the holster used from the body contacting side and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross section on line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
In the drawing, I represents the body of the holster and 2 a leather welt stitched between the holster leather at the enclosure at the rear longitudinal edge 3 of the holster. The welt 2 serves to stiffen the holster and spaces the converging rear side portions of the holster suficiently apart to eliminate binding at the trigger guard of the firearm, this being noted from Fig. 1 that the welt 2 is arcuately curved to make a snug fit around the trigger guard.
The holster space is closed at the bottom by a flat piece 4 of leather having a contour similar to a horse shoe and which is stitched, as indicated at 5, flush with the bottom of the holster as shown in Fig. 2. The holster leather is extended upwardly on one side as shown at 6 and straddling the extension 6 is the extended belt loop I, being stitched to the holster as shown at 8 and 9.
The extended belt loop has previously been used on holsters, but has been unsatisfactory because of its looseness, allowing the gun when in the holster to flap about, thus giving an unfixed 1936, Serial No. 103,607
position of the gun. An important feature of this invention is the improvements over previous holsters worn or suspended from the belt by means of the extended belt loop which overcomes the objection appendant upon the use of this otherwise satisfactory holster.
This improvement consists of a plate ID of any stiffening material inserted between the outer leg H of the belt loop and the adjacent portion ll of the holder body. This plate of stiffening material can be made any shape to conform to the shape of the holster used and it can be of such weight that will not bend easily, yet can be formed to fit the gun and contour of the body of the carrier. Metal plate I!) is to be of sufficient length to give stiffness to belt loops from stitches 8 to stitches 9 and constitutes the reinforcing part which when applied to the holster of the extended belt loop type makes the latter a very practical one for use on any belt, particularly on the Sam Browne belt. By reason of the reinforcing plate, the belt loop is adequately stiffened and the holster is held substantially rigid to give a fixed and certain position of the gun.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A holster comprising a body portion including front and rear walls, respectively, the latter extending well above the front wall to provide a flap-like extension on said rear wall, a plate-like reinforcing member of relatively stiff material on the rear face of said rear wall and terminating substantially midway of the said body portion and short of the upper end of said extension, and a belt loop comprising a pair of legs straddling said extension, rear wall and member and looped above said extension, the legs of said belt loop being stitched to said rear wall and extension around the sides and adjacent opposite ends of said member.
WILLIAM J. MYRES.
