Description

T.'D. HAEH-NLE N. Ticket-Reel. No: 208,906. Patented Oct. 15, 1878.

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
THEODORE D. HAEHNLEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, AS SIGNOB; OF ONE-FIFTH HIS RIGHT TO LEWIS HAEHNLEN, SR, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN TlCKE T-REELS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,906, dated October 15, 1878; application filed May 24, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE D. HAEHN- LEN, of the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ticket-Reels, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of a box for holding the tickets or stamps embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 is a transverse section thereof. Y
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention relates to a ticket or stamp enumerator and register; and consists of a ribbon or sheet reel having a threaded shaft, a fixed head, a removable head, and end gudgeons, whereby the ribbon or roll may be readily fitted to the reel, held, guided, and laterally supported, and providedwith a box having openings for the exit-passage of the ribbon or sheet, open eyes which support the reel and permit its application and removal, a spring for adjusting the tension of the reel and preventingdisplacement of the reel, staples which project through the slotted lid of the box, and a strap which, passing through the staples, holds the lid closed and supports the box while being carried.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a box, which is adapted to be carried around the waist or elsewhere by means of a strap, B, which is passed through staples O, secured to the sides of the body of the box and projecting through openings in the lid or cover D of the box, which thus cannot be opened without removal of said strap B, the ends whereof are secured by a lock or fastening, a, under the control of the proper officials, whereby the party carrying the box has no access to the interior of the same. E represents a ribbon or sheet of tickets or stamps, of which there will be as many as there are different classes of fares, &c. The tickets or stamps are consecutively numbered or lettered, and the removal of a ticket or stamp is indicative of the reception of a fare, price of admission to a place of amusement, drink, cigar, &c., the remaining tickets or stamps, being intact, serving as a register to show what has been removed or severed from the ribbon or sheet, as every conductor, bar-keeper, salesman, &c., in interest will be required to tear or out 01f a ticket or stamp for every passenger, customer, sale, etc.
The ribbon, whenrolled, is placed on a reel, F, the shaft F of which is threaded at one end, to permit the removal and application of one head, F, of the reel, for the purpose of fitting a ribbon to the reel, and subsequently holding and guiding it in position. The ends of the shaft project outside the heads, so as provide gudgeons or bearings for the reel.
It is evident that the removable head may be screwed as close as desired to the adjacent side of ribbon, the two heads of the reel acting as lateral supports for the roll. The shaft of the reel is mounted on eyes I) b, secured within the box A, whose upper or side portions are open, whereby the reel and ribbon thereon may be readily removed.
G represents a spring, which is secured to the box and bears against the ribbon on the reel, for providing the proper tension therefor, and preventing displacement of the reel from its bearings or eyes I) b.
The ribbon is passed from the box through an opening, (I, in one side thereof, and a portion of the same is outside of the box, so as to be conveniently accessible and detachable. As an additional security, the lid or cover D may be sealed in any desired manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ticket or stamp box A, having the open eyes b b, reels F, and springs G, all inclosed therein, and provided with openings (1 and staples O, projecting through slots in the lid D, and the lock-strap B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
