- An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a yarn package of the type from which the yarn or thread, particularly hard thread, is adapted to be drawn off endwise, in which knots or other irregularities in the thread are so disposed as not to catch the thread that is being withdrawn.
- this invention provides a method of winding packages of yarn, particularly hard yarn such as natural silk in the gum or artificial silk, which consists in so winding the yarn on to a centre (e. g. a cone or tube) that any knots present in the yarn are brought on to or over an end face of the centre and lie thereon at a less radius than the minimum radius of the yarn windings.

- a wound package of yarn having the end face of the yarn windings exposed comprising a centre surrounded by the wound-on yarn which centre is abruptly stepped down in diameter near one end thereby forming a shoulder, which shoulder is exposed at the said end face and having a crosssectional irregularity occurring in the yarn between successive windings thereof laid across and exposed on the face of said shoulder.
