The invention relates to improvements in window cleaners and has for its primary object the provision of an improved implement for the purpose which is capable of economical production and highly efiicient in use.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an implement of the character indicated so constructed and arranged as to permit of the washing and drying of both sashes of an ordinary window from the interior of the room.

Another object of the invention is the provision of an implement of the character indicated which is capable of ready use for the purpose from the interior of a building and without removal of the window screen.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section showing a window cleaner embodying the invention in position of use in cleaning the lower sash of a window;

Fig. 2 a similar view showing the implement in use in cleaning the upper sash of a window;

Fig. 3 an enlarged side view of the implement;

Fig. 4 a rear view thereof;

Fig. 5 a view of one of two cleaning bags employed on the implement; and

Fig. 6 a View of the other of said bags.

The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a handle member in the form of a pipe or tube l0 bent into substantially U-shape, as indicated, and of a form to embrace the lower rail or rails of one or both sashes, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2.

One limb of the handle member ID is provided with a hand grip II and the other limb with a fiat blade l2 of a size and form to fit and operate readily between the sashes, as indicated in Fig. 1.

A cloth bag I3 is provided of a form and shape to fit readily over the blade l2, said bag being provided at its open bottom with an elastic band l4 and in its rear wall or side with an elastic insert l5 for the purpose of holding said bag snugly upon the blade l2.

A similar bag l6 of chamois also provided with the elastic band l4 and the elastic insert I5 is also provided for use on the blade 12.

In use, the bag I3 is first applied to the blade l2, dipped in the washing water, and applied to the outer sides of the sashes, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. After the washing of each sash by means of the. bag I3, the same is dried by substituting the chamois bag It therefor. In applying the implement to the lower sash, the same is at first partially raised, as indicated in Fig. 1, until the upper portion thereof is treated and then raised further to facilitate treatment of the lower portion. In treating the upper sash, both the sashes are arranged as indicated in Fig. 2 so that both will be embraced by the handle member H], as indicated in Fig. 2. As will be noted, the entire cleaning of the outer surface of both the lower and upper sashes may thus be accomplished from a position inside of the room, and the cleaning of the outer surface of the lower sash may also be readily accomplished without removal of any window screen present in the window frame.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed but desire to avail myself of such modifications and variations as fall within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A window cleaner comprising a substantially U-shaped handle member of a form to embrace a window sash and provided on one limb with a cleaning element of a form and shape to fit between window sashes; and a removable open bottomed bag-like member fitting over and around said cleaning element and having an elastic insert in its inoperative side and an elastic band secured around its bottom.

2. A cleaning element for window cleaners comprising a bag provided with an elastic bound opening; and an elastic insert in one side thereof.
