Y AIn order to construct a portable phonograph of the mentioned type in as small and compactl a manner as possible, it has been'necessary, heretofore, to provide a collapsible record receiving device which was openedand hung on the outer side of the case which housed the mechanism and the played records were successively ejected into said receiving device. .l5 necessity, hadto remain open during operation of the phonograph'- -This latter condition, essentially, was faulty, since needle scratch and otherextraneous noises provided undesirable background noises to the recorded sound which einanated from the electrical reproducing'meana Y It is desirable therefore and is an object of the invention, to provide means `whereby the .phonograph case may be completely closed over the playing `mechanism while in operation to deaden and eliminate these undesirable sounds. yet permitting the records to be ejected' from the case into the receiving tray on the outer side thereof.

The invention further contemplates the provision of a compact self-contained Aphonograph in which vthe receiving tray may be conveniently v housed in the cover thereof to form a compartment for disc records.y
With the above and other ,objects in mind.
the vinvention resides in the novel features of construction described in the following specification and illustrated'in the drawing, in which:-

The ejector means here illustrated comprises an arm 9, mounted to` swing horizontally on a l0 post il approximately halfway across the stack of records S" vand mechanis'm located beneath the table I elevatesthe free end of arm 9 as it swings in this manner.
The arm 9, at its free end, is provided with l5 means Il to engage the rim of the topmost recvordof the stack so, as the arm is elevated, the
record is raised as `shown in Figure 3 to free it from the turntable spindle l2.
The post lll is provided with a bracket or the 20 like Il carrying an arm I4 which swings horizontally with the movement of the ejector arm. This arm I4 is arranged to engage against the inner face ofva hinged nap I5 carried by the cover IB ot the case 5 in a manner whereby an 25 opening I5* is provided for the passage of a record R. from the stack S to a position in a tray I1 attached outside. the case 5 by engagement in loops Il of hooks on the tray i1.
'I'his tray, when not used as such, is positioned 3o within the cover Ii to provide a compartment I9 in which records may be stored.
When not in use the phonograph appears as shown in Figure 1. When it is desired to play the machine, the cover I6 israised and a stack 35' of recordsplaced on the turntable 6. `The pickup is placed on the topmost record in the usual manner, the turntable started rotating 'and the cover closed, the tray I1, of course, first being removedfrom the cover and hooked into place 40 a'sshowninFlgures2and3,by engaging the` tray carried hooks into the loops i8. y
It will be noted that since the turntable, records and pickup are completely enclosed, all foreign noises such as needle scratch, etc., are deadened and only the reproduced recording on the record emanates from the grill 1.

As vthe arm 9 returns to its initial position, the arm I 4 releases the fiap so it may return to its normal closed position as shown in Figure 4.
The next topmost record is played and the aotion ,continues as heretofore until all the records on the turntable are played.
An alternate form of construction shown in Figure 5 comprises constructing the ilap 2l as a soft pliable member which may be engaged by the oncoming edge of the record as it is being ejected, the flap then dropping back into place as shown by the dot-dash lines. In this c asevthe arm i4 r may be dispensed with.
The mechanism for ejecting the record forms no part of the present invention and is for illustration only. Many different forms of record removing and ejecting means are in commercial 4use and it is intended that the present invention may be used with any form of such device. While the invention has been illustrated as being applied to adevice expelling the records from one side of the phonograph, it will be obvious that the invention may be applied to or associated with devices which eject or expel records from the rear, front or either, side of the phonograph.
It willalso be seen that the `iiap I5 may be hinged vertically to swing as a door, and in such case, it could be held open or allowed to remain open during operation of the phonograph, thus providing an unobstructed open space for the passage` of expelled records.'
As can be seen from the foregoing, a simple device for the purpose intended is provided in its preferred embodiments and since immaterial changes in construction may well be made without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims, interpretation thereof should be made only in the light of the prior art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. A multi-disc record phonograph having means for ejecting the topmost record of a. stack lof records carried by the phonograph turntable, said phonograph being adapted to be completely enclosed when played and comprising a casing forming said enclosure, a swingable ap forming part of one wall of said casing, a record receiving member carried by' and without the casing, said aosazos ilap being normally closed but automatically operable by the record ejecting means just prior to the ejection of a record to provide passage space for the record ejected from the phonograph into said record receiving member.
2. A multi-disc record phonograph having means to eject the played topmost record of a stack of records carried by the phonograph turntable, said phonograph being adapted to be completely enclosed when played and 4comprising a casing forming said enclosure, a vertically swingable flap forming part of one wall of said casing,

Va' record receiving member carried by and without the casing adjacent the lower edge of said iiap, and means operable by the record ejecting means, upon ejection of a record, for swinging said flap from its normally closed position to provide passage space for the ejected record to slide into said record receiving member.
3. In a' multi-disc record phonograph having means for ejecting the'played topmost record of a stack of records carried by the phonograph turntable, a casing, a swingable ilap forming part of one wall of said casing, and an arm carried by and operable with the ejecting means for moving said flap into' an open position in advance oi' a record being ejected to afford passage space therefor.
4. In a multi-disc record phonograph having means to cast en and eject the topmost record of a record stack carried by the turntable, a case ior the phonograph, the case having an opening for the passage of records therethrough, a iiap hinged at its top to the casing and normally closing said opening, and means operable by the4 cast-oil and ejecting means to move said ilap away from the opening in advance of the record being ejected, to provide passage space for said record.
