Original application February 16, 1935, Serial No.

this application April 30,
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in tooth brushes, the same being a division of our co-pending application, Serial No. 6,746, filed February 16, 1935 now matured into Patent 2,053,697.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a tooth brush having a head construction involving a form of bristle construction, which will be more effective in extracting lo foreign matter froml between the teeth.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush head construction for fountain tooth brushes, from which paste can be discharged in a more emcient manner during the operation oi brushing the teeth.
These and various other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.
In the drawing:
m Figure 1 is a sideelevational view of the tooth brush, with the head structure in longitudinal section. f
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view through the head of the brush.
Figure 3 is a cross section Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing, wherein vlike numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the elongated hollow handie provided with the threaded end portion 6 'on line 3-3 of 3 over which the feed cap 1 is engaged. In the hollow handle or shell 5 is placed the collapsible paste tube 8, with its neck portion 8 engaged into the nipple portion III of the brush head, generally referred to by the numeral I I. Obviously, by rotating the cap 1, the tube 8 is compressed so as to force paste into the head II.
' The head II is preferably of rectangular construction and constructed from a single piece of o rubber or other equivalent material having a desired degree of flexibility.
The bottom wall I2 of the head Il is provided with a plurality of teats I3 extending therefrom, which substitute for bristles of a tooth brush. Each of these teats I3 is provided -withv a main duct I4 extending axially therein from the interior. of the head II andfrom this main duct 5 ..14 a plurality of branch ducts I5 radiateand open through the side of the same. Thus it can be seen that while in the act of brushing the teeth, there are always some of the branch ducts i5 open so that paste can discharge 10 from the head. Furthermore, it will be observed that the head can be charged with peste through any practical means and more particularly the preferred means shown in the parent application, now matured into Patent No. 2,053,697,
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention zo as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A brush head of soft flexible material comprising a body having a chamber, and hollow 25 integral teats extending laterally from the body and communicating with said chamber, said teats being closed at their ends remote from the charnber and being provided in their side walls with discharge apertures extending transversely 30 through said walls and inclined in a direction away from the chamber.
2. A brush head of soft flexible material comprising a body having a chamber, hollow integral4 teats of outwardly tapering construction dls- 85 posed at their outer ends, each of the said teats being provided with a plurality of circumferentially extending grooves, said teats each provided with radiating ducts opening at their outer vends in the said grooves.
