Description

pri 27, 1337. F. E. ROHRMANN SMOKEHOUSE Filed CCT.. 12, 1954 w y mw M mM@ www l. i @w Patented Apr. 27, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE SMOKEHOUSE Fred E. Rohrmann, Milwaukee, Wis. Application October 12, 1934, Serial No. 748,061 2 Claims. (Cl. sil- 259) This invention relates to smokehouses and more particularly to a smokehouse having a smoke circulatory system.
An object of the invention is to provide a device of the type having means for equalizing pressure in the smokehouse.
Another object of the invention is to provide a circulatory system which will make constant the heat and smoke in the unit.
A further object is to provide means for thoroughly mixing the heat and smoke adjacent its origin with the return smoke.
Other and further objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds; reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view in section of a device embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view partly in elevation and partly in section showing return and terminal pipes.
Fig. 3 is a rear view of the device partly in section and partly in elevation showing the smoke flue, blower, return and terminal pipes.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, the numeral I refers to the re box of the device. The smoking compartment is disposed at II thereof, and opens into the ues I2 and I3. A side iiue I4 leads to the blower I5 and return pipe I6, which is supported at its lower end, in the rear wall, I1, of the smokehouse.
Pipe I 6 terminates in a transversely disposed terminal pipe I8, having the damper box I9 in which is the sliding damper 2D. 'Ihe upper portions of the terminal pipe I8 are cut out at 2|, and are covered by the sliding cover 22, which has registering cutout portions at 23. The terminal pipe I8 supports a longitudinal axle 24, on which are mounted the fans 25, which may be secured by this means or held by hangers directly within or under the openings at 2I of pipe I8. Hand levers 26 and 21 control the sliding top cover and the damper, respectively In operation, the food products to be smoked are suspended in the compartment I I, where they will be subjected to the smoke issuing from the fire box I0. If the dampers 28 are open, the smoke will leave compartment I I by means of the flues I2 and I3. By opening the damper I9, the
blower I will draw the smoke by means of liue I4 through said blower into the return pipe I6 and the terminal pipe I8. The operator, by opening the damper 20, may release the smoke from the return pipe into the re-box IU, thus utilizing 5 combustible materials, which may remain in the return smoke, and re-heating it for re-circulation. If it is not desired to re-heat or burn the smoke, it may be released thru the openings at 2I, by moving the cover 23, whereupon the freerotating 10 fans 25 Will tend to mix the original smoke with the return smoke.
It will be understood that the device is capable of many modifications in structure and design, without departing from the spirit of the invention, all Within the scope of the appended claims. Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:-
1. In a device of the class described, a iirebox, a smoking compartment above said flrebox having Ventilating projections at the top thereof, a return pipe connected with said Ventilating means, a transverse terminal pipe connected with said return pipe at the lower end thereof having a plurality of vents in the upper and lower sides thereof adapted to diffuse smoke upwardly through the smoking compartment, the lower vents being adjacent to the rebox and adapted to lfeed smoke to the fire for reburning thereof, and closure means operable exteriorly of the compartment for opening and closing the lower and upper vents respectively.
2. In a device of the class described, a flrebox, a smoking compartment above said rebox having Ventilating projections at the top thereof, a return pipe connected with said Ventilating means, a transverse terminal pipe connected with said return pipe at the lower end thereof having a plurality of vents in the upper and lower sides thereof adapted to diffuse smoke upwardly through the smoking compartment and downwardly into the firebox for reburning thereof, free rotating agitating means adjacent to on a plane with and disposed inwardly of the plane of the upper vents, and closure means operable exteriorly of the compartment for opening and closing the lower and upper vents respectively.
