(01. 27 3 142 Y I 9 The present invention relates tonew and useful improvements in ash receptacles for smokers and has for its primary object to .provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an article of 5 this character embodying novel amusement and advertising features.

Other objects of the invention are to provide an ash receptacle or tray of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction,

strong, durable, attractive in appearance, light in weight and which may be manufactured at low cost.

All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:

Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention.

Figure 2 is a side elevational view.

Figure 3 is a view in vertical section through the invention.

Figure 4 is a view in horizontal section, taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.

Figure 5 is a detail view in top plan of the stationary disk.

Figure 6 is a fragmentary View in top plan, showing the central portion of the bottom of the tray.

Figure 7 is a detail view in vertical section through the post on which the disks are mounted.

Figure 8 is a detail view in perspective of the match holder.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a tray I of suitable dimensions and material, the bottom 2 of said tray being provided with supporting feet or pads 3. The tray I further includes a marginal flange 4 on which cigar and cigarette holders 5 are mounted. Also mounted on the flange I is a holder 6 for book matches, said holder 6 having an opening I therein for exposing the usual striking surface with which books of matches are provided.

The bottom 2 of the tray I includes a raised central portion 8 having an opening 9 therein. Fixed in the opening 9 is a post I0 having a reduced upper end portion II on which a stationary disk I2 is fixed by upsetting or swag-' ing the upper end of said post. The upper end of the post I!) is also radially grooved or notched for a purpose which will be presently set forth.

Extending vertically through the post I0 is a screw I3 the head I4 of which is countersunk in the lower end portion of said post II], as best seen in Figure 3 of the drawings. Threadedly mounted on the upper end portion of the screw I3 is a knurled knob I5. Secured to the bottom of the knob I5 and encircling the screw I3 is a rotary disk I6 the periphery of which is formed to provide a pointer II.

It will be observed that the diameter of the rotary disk I6 is less than that of the stationary disk I2. This is to expose advertising indicia I8 on the marginal portion of the stationary disk I2 to which the pointer I! is adapted to point. Numerals I9 are also provided on the stationary disk I2 inwardly of the advertising matter I8, said numerals being observable through an opening 20 in the rotary disk or spinner I6. cured to the lower side of the rotary disk I6 is a resilient latch 2I through which the screw I3 passes, said latch having a tooth 22 on its free end portion engageable in the aforementioned grooves or notches in the upper end of the post III.

The lower end portion of the post I0 which extends through the opening 9 is reduced, as at 23. After being inserted through the opening 9, this reduced end portion 23 is upset or swaged, as at 24, for securing the post III in position. A washer 25 is provided between the upset or swaged portion 24 and the bottom of the tray I,

as best seen in Figure 3 of the drawings.

In use, the players rapidly rotate or spin the disk I6 and then observe whichever of the numbers I9 is exposed through the opening 28 when said disk I6 comes to a stop. The arrangement of the grooves or notches in the upper end of the post II] is such that the tooth 22 on the resilient finger 2| will causethe disk I6 to come to a stop with the opening 20 in full registry with one of the numbers I9. When the disk I6 comes to a stop the pointer I'I thereon directs attention to one of the advertising items I8 on the marginal portion of the stationary disk I2.

It is believed that the many advantages of an ash receptacle or tray constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed is:-

1 A device of the class described comprising a base, a post rising centrally from said base, a stationary disk mounted on the post, said stationary disk having advertising indicia on its marginal portion and further having numerals thereon arranged concentrically of said post and inwardly of the advertising indicia, a rotary disk of comparatively small diameter mounted on said post above the stationary disk, said rotary disk having an opening therein for exposing to consecutive ones of said numerals in sequence as the disk rotates, and an indicator on said rotary disk for pointing to the advertising indicia on the stationary disk.

A device of the class described comprising a base including a bottom, said bottom comprising a raised central portion having an opening therein, a vertical post fixed in said opening, a stationary disk fixed on the upper end portion of the post, said disk having advertising indicia on its marginal portion and further having numerals thereon arranged concentrically of said post and inwardly of the advertising indicia, a screw extending vertically through the post, an operating knob mounted on the upper end portion of said screw, a rotary disk fixed to the bottom of said knob and encircling the screw, the diameter of the rotary disk being less than that of the stationary disk, said rotary disk having an opening therein for exposing to consecutive ones of said numerals in sequence as the disk rotates, an indicator on the periphery of the rotary disk for pointing to the advertising indicia, and a resilient finger on the rotary disk engaged with the upper end of the post for stopping said rotary disk in predetermined positions relative to the stationary disk.
