' In the conventional women's trousers construc- 15 tion, the side seams terminate well below the waistline, thereby leaving a slit or opening or V- shaped notch at the top which is intended to facilltate the passage of the garment over the hips of the wearer. when the garment is worn, it is necessary in some way to provide for the sealing of this slit or notch, and it has heretofore been the usual practice to provide either a series of buttons or snap fasteners or the like, or to employ some sort of hookless fastener.

25 The main object of the present invention is to provide a construction which eliminates the necessity for the usual series of buttons or other closure means by means of which the side slits or notches are sealed. I accomplish this desir- 30 able result by a novel structural arrangement of parts whereby the major portion of the slit or notch is adapted to serve as an opening for a pocket.

My present improved construction is characterized by the provision of a means for releasably closing the side notch only at the waistline, and by a unique association with the edges of the notch of a pocket construction of novel character. More particularly, the pocket consists of superposed front and rear walls whose outer edges are,

In accordance with usual practice, the trousers consists of front and rear portions which are held together by means of the side seams l l. provided above each side seam a V-shaped notch which is shown most clearly in Figure 3, this notch permitting the garment to be passed over the hips of the wearer when it is to be applied orremoved. In Figure 3, the front edge of the notch is designated-by the reference numeral I5, and the rear edge by the reference numeral I.

In accordance with my invention, means are provided for releasably closing the notch at the waistline, and I have illustratively shown a pair of buttonholes II at the extremity of the front portion of the waistband, these buttonholes cooperating with a pair of buttons 18 provided at the corresponding extremity of'the rear portion of the waistband. It will be understood that this arrangement is preferably provided in association with each notch, i.'e., at each side of the garment; and in the garment illustrated in the accompany ing drawings, the construction at each side is symmetrical with the construction at the opposite side. i

The present construction is completed by the provision of a button 26, or its equivalent, on the front portion of the waistband l2; and the provision of a complementary buttonhole 21, or its equivalent, at the inner upper corner of the pocket. This permits the inner upper portion of the pocket to be releasably secured to the front trousers portion, as shown in Figures 2 and3. Thus the pockets extend forwardly approximately to the middle of the front where they are secured by the buttons 26, giving added support and more reinforcement to the trousers.

When a person desires to step into the present garment, she first opens the waistband portion, as shown in Figure 4. While the buttons l8 serve as a releasable means for closing the notch only at the waistline, the balance of the notch or slit is nevertheless-effectively sealed by means of the pocket. The button 26 holds the inner portion of the pocket in proper position.

Having thus described my invention, and illustrated its use, what I claim-as. new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is--- 1. In a trousers construction, a waistband portion having a hip section and a waistband of smaller size than the hip section, said waistband being continuous across the front of the trousers, thereby providing a flyless front therefor, said waistband portion having a V-shaped notch at each side thereof extending upwardly through the waistband to facilitate passage over the hips of a wearer, a pocket for each of said v-shaped notches, each pocket having front and rear walls closed at their inner and bottom edges and substantially disconnected from ach other along their outer and upper edges, the pockets being a secured to and extending forwardly from said V- shaped notches to points adjacent the middle of the front of the trousers, means for detachably fastening the forward upper corner portion of v a wearer, a pocket for each of said notches comprising front and rear walls substantially disconnected from each other along their top and outer edges and connected along their inner and bottom edges, said outer edges being secured to the edges of said notch, respectively, the top edges of said pocket walls being spaced downwardly appreciably below the upper edge of the waistband portion for concealment thereby, the pockets extendingYorwardly from the notches to points adiacent the middle of the front of the trousers. means for detachably fastening the forward upper corner portion of each pocket to the waistband portion, and means for detachably fastening the edges of the waistband portion together at the notches, whereby release of the last-mentioned fastening means permits access to the first-mentioned fastening means to release the same.
