IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE-SPRINGS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,511, dated August 27, 1878; application filed July 3, 1878.

To all whom it may concern:

Beit kn own that I, BENJAMIN F. FULLER, of Russell, in the county of Lucas and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Springs for Lumber-Wagons; and I do hereby declare that the followin g is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 is a view, in perspective, of the spring in place upon the bolster. I i g. 2 is a view, in perspective, of the spring detached; and Fig. 3 is a detached view of one of the plates by which the spring is secured to the bolster.

This invention has relation to wagon'spring's; and consists of a block of rubber provided with recessed plates, which adapt it to be removably secured upon the bolster between the standards, the object being to provide a detachable wagon-spring that may be readily applied to the ordinary road-wagon, that is always constructed without them.

In the accompanying drawing similar letters of reference indicate like parts in the invention.

A represents the bolster, and B the standards, of an ordinary road-wagon, intended to carry a wagon-box. O is the rubber block, provided at each end with a recessed plate, D, secured to it in any suitable manner. The block 0 should be of a length to fit readily between the standards B, and the recesses E in the plates D should be of a shape and size to receive the standards and prevent the block from being shoved from the top of the bolster at either side.

To place the block upon the bolster the tops of the standards should be entered into the recesses E and the plates D slid down until the block 0 shall rest upon the top of the ho]- ster, after which the box should be placed upon the spring.

It will be readily seen that this spring will be of great utility where it is customary to haul heavy loads in wagon-boxes, and the facility with which it can be applied to and removed from the bolster greatly enhances its value.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The detachable wagon-spring consisting of the block of rubber, 0, provided at each end with a recessed plate, D E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
