Referring to Figs. and 6, there is shown a simple type of cigarette case 50 in which the sections 5| and 52 are hingedly connected by a pin 53 in substantially the same manner as in the embodiment already described. A spring 54 is wrapped about this pivot and the pivot pin 55 on which is mounted the presser member 56. One end 51 of this spring is inserted through an opening 58 in the presser member 56 and bent over beneath this member while the opposite extremity 59 of the spring passes through an opening 60 in the marginal portion of the section 5!. This spring 54 is wound in opposite directions about the pivot pins 53 and 55 as in the previous embodiment and the action is the same as there described.

It will readily be evident that this same spring construction is applicable to cases for a wide variety of purposes where a double spring action is required. The device is simple and compact and may be economically produced. In the lighter construction the form of filling opening shown very materially reduces the cost of producing the lighter as no threading of the walls of the tank is necessary and the parts may be quickly and easily assembled.

It will be seen that there is provided a construction of an essentially practical nature in which the several objects of this invention are attained.

As many possible embodiments may be made of the above invention without departing from the scope thereof, it is to be understood that all matter'herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

1. A case comprising a pair of relatively movable sections, a hinge pin connecting said sections at one margin thereof, oppositely disposed lugs mounted on one of said sections and projecting therefrom, a second hinge pin mounted in said lugs in substantially parallel relation with the first hinge pin and spaced therefrom, a presser member mounted on the second hinge pin, and a coil spring wound around said pins in opposite directions and coacting with said sections and said member to yieldingly maintain said sections in closed position and said member pressed toward one of said sections, the opening of said case acting to increase the pressure of said memher.

2. A case comprising a pair of relatively movable sections, a hinge pin connecting said sections at one margin thereof, oppositely disposed lugs mounted on one of said sections and projecting therefrom, a second hinge pin mounted in said lugs in substantially parallel relation with the first hinge pin and spaced therefrom, a presser member mounted on the second hinge pin and coacting with one of said sections, and a coil spring wound around said pins in opposite directions and coacting with said sections and said member to yieldingly maintain said sections in closed position and said member pressed toward the section with which it coacts, movement of said member from the section acting to increase the closing action of said spring.

In a cigarette case, in combination, a container comprised of a pair of casings, one of said casings comprising a cover for said container, hinge means connecting said casings, a presser pivotally mounted with respect to said casings, and adjacent said hinge means, and a coil spring related to said hinge means and having opposite windings to urge said presser against one of said casings and reacting against both of said casings to urge them together.

In a cigarette case, in combination, a container comprising a pair of relatively movable sections, a hinge pin connecting said sections substantially at one margin thereof, a presser pivotally mounted upon said sections, and spring means having opposite windings, one winding being connected to said presser to urge said presser outwardly against one of said sections and the other of said windings being connected to said sections to urge said sections toward each other, said spring means being adapted to ease up on said presser member as said sections are moved toward each other.

5. In a cigarette case, in combination, a container comprising a pair of relatively movable cover members, a hinge pin connecting said cover members, a presser member pivotally connected to said container adjacent said hinge pin, spring means comprising two coacting sections, one of said sections being adapted to resiliently force said cover members toward each other and the other of said sections being adapted to resiliently force said presser member against one of said cover members, said sections being so connected as to ease up on said presser member as said cover members are moved toward each other.

6. In a cigarette case, in combination, a container comprising a pair of relatively movable cover members, a hinge pin pivotally connecting said cover members, a presser member hingedly mounted adjacent said hinge pin, and a pair of coacting coil springs connected to each other at one end, one of said springs being connected to said cover members to resiliently force said cover members toward each other and the other of said springs being connected to said presser member to resiliently hold said presser member against one of said cover members.

7. In a cigarette case, in combination, a container comprising a pair of relatively movable cover members, a pin pivotally connecting said cover members, a presser member, a pin pivotally connecting said presser member with one of said members, spring means comprising two sections and having opposite windings one upon said pivot pin of said cover members and one upon said pivot pin of said presser member, said spring means adapted to force said cover members toward each other and said presser against one of said cover members, the closing of said sections adapted to diminish the pressure of said presser member against said cover member.

8. In a cigarette case, in combination, a pair of casings shaped to rest in juxtaposed relationship to form a case, a hinge connecting said casings so that they may pivot to an extended position, a presser, a pivotal mounting for said presser adjacent said hinge, and a single spring associated with said hinge and said mounting, having a section pressing against said presser to urge said presser against one of said casings and having another section pressing against the other of said casings, whereby said casings are constantly urged into an extended position and said presser is constantly urged against one of said casings.
