[72 W6 72 207' iclgmvcL B Qlgflf Wz'Zhessw UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD BOURNE, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN NUT-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 207,386, dated August 27, 1878; application filed June 18, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD BoURNE, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Nut-Locks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to an improvement in nut-locks; and consists of a hollow bolt and nut with a rod passing through the bore of the bolt and bent at right angle thereto.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of my specification, Figure 1. is a side elevation of my improvement in nut-locks. Fig. 2 is a vertical and longitudinal section of the same. Fig. 3 represents the rod which passes through the bolt.
In the drawings, A represents an ordinary bolt with an opening through it. B is the head of the bolt, and G the shank, which is provided with screw-threads. D is the nut, provided with screw-threads adapted to the screw-threads on the bolt A. e is arod, which passes through the bore of the bolt, and is bent at right angle to the axis of the bolt, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings.
The bolt B is constructed as hereinbefore described, and the rod 0 (represented in Fig. 3) is passed through it and bent, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Bolts embodying the principles of my in vention may be constructed with threads on each end for the reception of nuts, and provided with the rod bent in the manner hereinbefore described.
The diameter of the rod 0 should in all cases be about the same as the diameter of the bore of the bolt, for the purpose of obtaining the greatest possible strength.
The nut or nuts secured on the bolt, constructed as hereinbefore described, will be securely held to their place, and can readily be removed by simply bending one of the ends 0 of the rod inline with the axis of the bolt A, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim as of my invent-ion is-- A hollow bolt, A, provided wit-h a nut or nuts, and rod, 0, bent at right angle to the axis of the bore of the bolt, substantially as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
E. BOURNE.
