Description

E. L. KOSA March 2, 1937.
JUG SPOUT Filed May 18, 1956 fmyw iz ATTORNEYS IITNESS Patented Mar. 2, 1937 PATET OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention relates to a spout and more particularly to an extension spout for jugs such as thermos jugs, bottles or the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a spout of this character, wherein through the use or" a mouth collar for a jug, bottle or the like, a spout can be adjustably arranged within the mouth and when the same is to be used for the pouring of the contents it can be pulled outwardly of the mouth of the jug, bottle or the like into a pouring position and when not in use can be adjusted within the mouth to avoid interference with the capping of the jug, bottle or the like. I
Another object of the invention is the provision of a spout of this character, wherein the construction thereof is novel in form so that it can be placed within the mouth of a jug, bottle or the like and when the contents of such is to be poured the spout can be pulled outwardly into pouring position thus avoiding the spilling of the contents during pouring thereof.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a spout of this character, which is simple in construction, readily and easily applied to a mouth of a jug, bottle or the like, thoroughly reliable and efiicient in its operation, convenient for adjustment and inexpensive to manufacture and install.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claims hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure l is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through a jug of the thermos type showing the spout constructed in accordance with the invention applied thereto and adjusted to pouring position.
Figure 2 is a View similar to Figure 1 showing the spout adjusted inwardly within the mouth of the jug and in non-pouring position.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the collar mounting for the spout.
Figure 4 is a side elevation showing the jug tilted and the spout adjusted for the pouring of its contents.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a portion of a jug of the thermos type having a mouth rim It for accommodating a screw cap (not shown). Adapted to be fitted within this mouth rim I is a spout carrying ring I l which lines the inner wall of the said rim and at diametrically opposite points has provided therein slots I2 provided at opposite ends with keeper notches l3, these being laterally ofiset from the slots which are inclined inwardly oi the mouth of the jug A.
Slidably fitting the slots 12 are pivots I4, these being permanently set in a pouring spout l5 which can be pulled outwardly to the position shown in Figure 1 of the mouth of the jug A or pushed inwardly to a non-pouring position with-- in the mouth as shown in Figure 2 of the drawing.
The spout I 5 has an outwardly curled edge portion l6 which functions to abut the ring II as permanently fastened within the mouth of the jug A to limit the outward swing of the said spout to a pouring position when this spout is pulled outwardly. The pivots I4 travel in the slots l2 and engage in the keeper notches when the spout has been moved to the fullest extent of the said slots and thus in this manner the said spout is latched in a pouring or non-pouring position, this being obvious from Figures 1 and 2 of the drawing.
The spout I 5 when pulled outwardly into pouring position from the mouth of the jug A will avoid spilling of the contents of said jug during the pouring thereof.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a jug or the like having a mouth rim, a collar fitting interiorly of said rim and having guide slots, and a spout pivotally connected in the said slots and adapted to be pulled outwardly to pouring position or pushed inwardly to non-pouring position within the ring, the slot at opposite ends being provided with terminal keeper notches for accommodating the pivot connections of the spout to hold the same in pouring or non-pouring positions.
2. The combination with a jug or the like having a mouth rim, a collar fitting interiorly of said rim and having guide slots, a spout pivotally connected in the said slots and adapted to be pulled outwardly to pouring position or pushed inwardly to non-pouring position within the ring, the slot at opposite ends being provided with terminal keeper notches for accommodating the pivot connections of the spout to hold the same in pouring or non-pouring positions, and an outwardly curled portion on the lower edge of the spout to constitute a stop for engagement with the ring when the spout is pulled outward- 1y thereof to limit the outward movement thereof.
