UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in tube caps especially adapted for use on a tube of the collapsible type.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a cap for tubes wherein the tube can be opened without entirely removing the cap from the tube neck.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a collapsible tube cap wherein the cap can be swung laterally and not be in the way when the contents of the tube are being discharged.
Other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following specification.

Figure 1 represents a fragmentary side elevational view of the cap and tube.
Figure 2 represents a topplan view of the tube with the cap closed and showing in dotted lines the open position of the cap.
. Figure 3 represents a cross sectional view taken substantially on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 represents a cross sectional view of the cap taken substantially on line 4-4 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 represents the tube proper while numeral 6 represents the neck of the tube.
This neck 6 is provided with a circumferentially extending grooveway 1 for receiving the elongated strip spring 8, one end of which is anchored to the neck as at 9.
The upper portion of the neck 6 is provided with a slotway Ill which extends substantially halfway around the neck and through this is movable the disk shaped closure II. This closure II is provided with a depending leg l2 extending downwardly through a channelway I3a in the neck 6 and terminates in a laterally disposed finger ring l3.
The free end portion A of the spring 8 extends over the leg portion l2 of the closure ll, engaging against the flat side of the leg to retain the closure plate ll disposed over the opening in the neck 6.
When it is desired to swing the closure 1 I to an open position, the finger ring I3 is pulled to the right as shown in Figure 2, which swings the closure plate ll outwardly through the slotway ill to the dotted line position shown in Figure 2. 5 Thus the closure plate is entirely out of the way when the discharge of the contents of the tube takes place.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood 10 that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to Without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what is claimed 15 as new is:
1. In a collapsible tube, a neck portion, said neck portion, being provided with a slotway extending circumferentially for substantially onehalf of the circumference, a closure plate operative through the said slotway to close off the interior of the neck, and a handle for the said closure plate whereby the plate can be moved through the slot way to an external position, said closure being provided with a leg on which the 25 handle is provided and a strip spring secured at one end to the neck portion and impinging at its opposite end against the leg to retain the closure in closed position.
2. In a collapsible tube, a. neck portion, said 30 neck portion, being provided with a slotway extending circumferentially for substantially onehalf of the circumference, a closure plate operative through the said slotway to close off the interior of the neck, and a handle for the said closure plate whereby the plate can be moved through the slotway to an external position, said neck being provided with a circumferentially extending grooveway, a strip spring in the grooveway, one end of the strip spring being anchored to the neck portion, a handle extending from the closure plate, the opposite end of the spring normally engaging the said handle to retain the closure plate in closed position.
