My present invention is concerned with improvements in mens trousers and more particularly with the provision of a pair of trousers which will provide adequate room in the region of the crotch without giving the appearance of bagginess or without the necessity for dropping the crotch seam to a point where the eiectiveness of the tailoring is lost. Y

Another object is to attain the foregoing results without altering the standard appearance of the trousers and without any substantial alterations in the standard methods of trouser construction.

'I'he ordinary trouser, tailored to t with reasonable snugness in the crotch, is comfortable enough when the 'wearer is in a standing position but when the wearer is seated for any length of time the tendency of the crotch to bind and cause discomfort is very pronounced. By my present invention I overcome this difculty entirely by the simple expedient by providing a couple of concealed pleats. These pleats follow the line of the inner seam of the trouser legs. They are preferably each anchored at one en-d to the usual crotch seam and have their other ends secured by anchoring seams paralleling and disposed a slight distance below the crotch seam. rI'he pleats are substantially concealed in all ordinary postures of the wearer yand the pockets of the pleats preferably face rearwardly so that if the pleats do open to permit expansion of the crotch when the wearer is seated, their opening will not be evident.

The arrangement above discussed provides a pair of trousers which are but negligibly more expensive than trousers of standard design and yet which accomplish the desired results in a highly effective manner. No elastic or other special material need be employed and no freak construction is involved.

The invention may be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein;

In the drawing the two legs of the trousers are indicated at I0, I0. Each of these leg portions is,

in accordance with standard practice, formed of two sections of material, these sections being connected by an outside seam I I and an inside seam I2. The inner upper ends of the two'leg portions are connected together by the usual crotch seam I3 which extends from `approximately the fly portion of the garment between the legs and terminates at the rear upper edge of the trousers.

In accordance with my invention an excess of material is provided in one of the leg forming sections at a point closely adjacent the junction of this section with the crotch seam. This excess of material is used to form a pleat indicated generally at Ill. A pleat is provided in the inside of each leg the pleats being anchored at their tops by the crotch seam and at their bottoms by separate anchoring seams I5.

In order to insure closing of the pleat when the latter is not under stress those edges of the pleat which are folded upon themselves are preferably connected adjacent the fold lines by lines of stitching i6 and I1. The external pocket of each pleat faces rearwardly so that opening of the pleat will not be conspicuous. In fact the pleat will be ordinarily concealed and since it forms part of the same material as the trousers, its expansion will not be noticeable. The construction involved permits the pair or" trousers to be tailored much more snugly without causing binding or discomfort when the wearer is seated.

The simplicity of the construction will be more or less evident. The crotch seam serves in addition to its usual function the function of anchoring the upper ends of both pleats. The trousers require but a slight access of material and the additional time and labor necessary to bind the edges of the pleats I6 and il are but negligible factors in the course of the garment.

Various slight changes and alterations might be made in the exact form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention and hence I consider myself at liberty to make all changes and alterations which fairly follow within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim,

l. A pair of mens trousers having a crotch seam and inside leg seams, said inside leg seams at the region of the crotch seams having pleats therein, crotch seam constituting an upper anchoring seam for the pleats.

2. A pair of mens trousers having a crotch seam and inside leg seams, said inside leg seams at the region of the crotch seams having pleats therein, crotch seam constituting an upper anchoring seam for the pleats, and separate anchoring seams for the lower ends of the pleats.
