Description

Jan. 19,1937. 1.. ZIMMERMAN I INKSTAND BOTTLE THEREFOR- Filed April 10, 1936 p I INVENTOR Zea Zzmmerman m WWW 17 Patented Jan. 19, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to an improved inkstand and bottle therefor, an object of the invention being to provide an improved shape or construction of bottle in which ink is sold to the trade, and to provide an improved construction of stand to receive such bottle or bottles so that the bottles and stand can be placed upon a desk or other support and used as an ordinary inkwell.
A further object is to provide improved means for coupling the bottles tothe stand so that the bottles may be readily discarded when empty and new full bottles installed as occasion may require.
A further object is to provide a stand of this character which may be so cheaply manufactured that the manufacturer of the ink can afford to give away the stands to encourage the sale of the ink in the particular construction of the bottle.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, all of which will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claimsf In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a view mainly in front elevation but partly in vertical section illustrating my improved stand and bottles therefor;
Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view taken on the staggered line 2--2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view in vertical transverse section on the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the bottles.
My improved inkstand indicated generally by the reference character A, comprises a preferably elevated platform I with tapering walls 2 at its edges supporting the same, and at the front of the stand a trough or pen-and-pencil receptacle 3 is stamped from the Wall of the stand.
At the center of the platform I there are secured a pair of channel-shaped uprights 4 and these uprights 4 are spaced apart, located back to back, and connected at their lower ends by an integral base plate 5 which is secured to the platform I. A preferable means for securing the plate 5 to the platform I is to stamp out tongues 6 from the base plate 5 and extend them through slots 1 in the platform I and then bend said tongues flat against the under face of the platform, thus providing a simple inexpensive securing means. The channel-shaped uprights 4 are provided at their edges with inturned flanges 8 as clearly shown in the drawing.
This improved stand is adapted to receive and support a pair of ink bottles 9, and as these bottles are precisely alike in shape and construction, the description hereinafter of one will apply to both.
Each bottle 9, which is of general circular form in cross section, is formed with a flat wall I 0 and laterally projecting integral flanges I l at the side edges of this flat wall. This flattened wall I0 and the flanges II are of such size and shape'as to fit Within the channel-shaped uprights 4 so that by a vertical movement of the bottle relative to the upright the bottle may be inserted or replaced, and when coupled to the upright will be supported on the platform I. These bottles may have any desired form of cap or stopper l2 and, as above explained, are intended for commercial use in the sale of the ink so that the manufacturer of the ink selling these bottles will provide to the customer bottles which will fit and properly couple with the stand so that they may be arranged side by side on the stand, and when a bottle is removed it may be readily replaced by a new full bottle.
While I have illustrated and described what I believe to be the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that various slight changes may be made with regard to the form and arrangement of parts without departing from the invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.
I claim:
1. The combination with a stand having a raised platform, of a pair of channel-shaped uprights located back to back, a base plate integral with the lower ends of said uprights and secured to the platform, said channel-shaped uprights having inwardly projecting flanges at their edges, and bottles having flattened walls and flanges at the edges thereof fitting within said channelshaped uprights.
2. The combination with a stand having a raised platform, of a pair of channel-shaped uprights located back to back, a base plate integral with the lower ends of said uprights, tongues struck from the base plate extended through the raised platform and positioned against the under face thereof securing the pair of uprights on the platform, and bottles having flattened walls and flanges at the edges thereof fitting within said channel-shaped uprights and resting on the raised platform.
3. The combination of an inkstand and a bottle therefor, said inkstand including a platform, a channel-shaped upright on the platform, and an integral base plate at the lower end of the upright resting flat upon the platform and secured to the platform, said bottle having a flattened wall and flanges at the edges thereof adapted to fit Within the channel-shaped upright with the bottle supported on the platform.
