HENRY D. TERRELL, OF STARRSVILLE, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCRAPER ATTACHMENTS FOR SHOVEL-PLOWS.
. Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 206,505, dated July 30, 1878; application filed June 14, 1878.
To all whom 'it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY DENTON TER- RELL, of Starrsville, in the county of Newton and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scraper Attachments for Shovel-Flows, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 is a side View of a plow-stock to which my improved scraper has been applied. Fig. 2 is a front view of the scraper detached.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved scraper for attachment to the stocks of shovel-plows and other plows to'do the work of a sweep, and which shall be simple in construction, eii'ective in use, and easily attached and detached.
The invention consists in the scraper having its wings inclined to the rearward, having the upper edges of its wings slightly twisted downward and rearward, to adapt it to be secured to the lower end of a plow-standard by the same bolt that secures the plow to the said standard, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the beam, and B the standard, of an ordinary plow-stock. To the lower end of the standard B is attached a plow, O, which may be a shovel-plow, a scooter, or any other desired kind of a plow.
D is the scraper, the middle part of which fits against the rear side of the lower end of the standard B, and is secured by the bolt E, that secures the plow G to the said standard.
The wings of the scraper incline to the rearward, their upper edges, at the sides of the standard B, are slightly twisted downward and rearward, and their upper corners are slightly curved forward, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2,to cause them to throw more dirt around the plants. This construction causes the wings of the scraper to cut the soil in the manner of a knife, cutting 05 everything that comes in its way, the dirt, &c., passing over the upper edge of its wings, and leaving the soil even and smooth.
The scraper D can be easily and quickly attached and detached, and will be less expensive in manufacture than the ordinary sweep, and at the same time will do better work.
If desired, the scraper D may be attached to the forward side of the standard B directly under the plow C.
I am aware that it is not new to attach a double-winged sweep to the standard of a shovel-plow, and I am also aware that scrapers have been combined with shovelplows.
In my invention the scraper is of a peculiarform or construction, in order to adapt itfor the use herein specified.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The scraper having a flat middle portion and two side wings, which are inclined to the rearward, and provided with downwardly and rearwardly twisted upper edges and upper corners, curved forward, as and for the purpose set forth.
H. D. TERRELL.
