Description

W. G. BAUER Nov. 17, 1936.
EYELID CAP Original Filed Dec. 7, 1935 INVENTOR IVY/ mm [1. Bauer ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 17, 1936 PATENT OFFICE EYELID CAP William G. Bauer, New York, N. Y.
Original application December '7, 1935, Serial No. 53,300. Divided and this application March 13,
1936, Serial No. 68,663
4 Claims.
This invention relates to a protective eyelid cap as it is for instance described in my co-pending application Serial No. 53,300, allowed January 14, 1936 of which this is a division.
The protective eyelid cap according to my invention is principally used for the protection of 1 the eyes of patients or persons undergoing treatment beneath sunlamps in solariums, or baking lamps or the like against the pernicious influence of the ultra-violet rays or the infra-red rays and other pernicious rays, or during taking a sunbath at the shore or other localities, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a comparatively simple and inexpensive article, which nevertheless is durable and highly efiicient in use.
Another object of my invention is the provision of an eyelid cap equipped with an exchangeable sanitary lining of suitable material.
A further object of my invention is the provision of an eyelid cover and cap adapted to the shape of the eyelid and provided with suitable handles which are preferably spaced from the body of the cap to provide a means for threading or otherwise securing thereto a cord, elastic band or the like by means of which the cap may be conveniently attached to for instance the wrist of a bather if used on the strand or sea shore to prevent loss.
A still further object of my invention is the provision of an eyelid cap or cover preferably made from suitable material as for instance cellulose acetate or other plastic material and suitably colored.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically defined in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of my cap with a fastening means threaded through its handle.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of a modified form of the lid or cap constructed according to my invention.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the cap on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section on line 4-4 of Figure 2.
As illustrated, the eyelid cap or cover comprises a body part l8 preferably curved to fit the curvature of the eyelid and molded from any suitable plastic material or cut from a block of suitable material or cast or pressed from suitable material. The cap body I8 has formed therewith preferably near its ends the handles or grips I9, 20 having openings 2 l 22 or spaces through which is threaded or passed a suitable fastening means 23 serving to hold the cap to the wrist of a bather or user to prevent loss and misplacement. Between the handles I9, 20 or at any other suitable place and intermediate its ends the cap body has formed therewith two oppositely disposed holder members 24, 25 with their outer ends spaced from one another, as at 26, while their inner ends are re-entrantly bent to loosely engage the lower face of the cap and serve as holders for a sanitary lining 21.
As illustrated in Figures 2, 3 and 4, the suitably curved body l8 of the cap has handles I9, 20 formed therewith close to its ends, and spaced from the body by the spaces or openings 2|, 22 while suitable fastening means 23 are passed through the openings as shown in Figure 3 for the purpose of securing the cap to a suitable support secure against loss or misplacement.
Between the handles I9, 20 oppositely disposed holder members 24', 25 engage with their outer branches which are separated by a space 26 the body of the cap while their inner substantially hook-shaped members or branches loosely engage the lower face of the body I8 to hold exchangeably a sanitary lining 21 in place.
In use the caps, when placed upon the eyelids, will efficiently protect the eyes against the sun rays or the rays of sunlamps or baking lamps or the like, while the exchangeable sanitary lining will safeguard the person undergoing treatment against contagion, and if necessary a wad of cotton or other hygienic material may be interposed between the eyelid and cap. The elastic fastening means will provide a means for securely and conveniently carrying the cap on the person against loss and misplacement on the beach or the like, while the material of the cap may have any color to suit any taste, and may be so selected as to allow a manufacture of the cap at reasonable cost.
It will be understood that I have disclosed as some examples of the many possible ways to practically construct my invention the forms shown, and that I may make such changes in its general arrangement and in the construction of its minor details as come within the scope of the appended claims without departure from the spirit of my invention and the principle involved.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An eyelid cap or cover comprising a curved body, a sanitary lining therefor, means for conveniently gripping the body, and holding means for the sanitary lining, and a means for attaching the cap to a support.
2. An eyelid cap comprising a curved body, handles or grips formed with said body and provided with openings, a sanitary lining for said body, holder members for said sanitary lining formed with said body intermediate its ends to hold the lining exchangeably to said body, and a means for securing the cap to a support. I
3. An eyelid cap comprising a curved body of moldable material, handles formed on the outer face of said body near its ends, radially disposed thereto and having openings, and holder members on said body intermediate its ends having spacedinner ends and re-entrantly bent outer ends on said holder to engage and hold a sanitary lining against the inner face of said body, the openings in said handles for the passage of fastening means to secure the cap to the body of a person.
4. An eyelid cap comprising a curved body having a curvature to suit the form of the lid, radially disposed handles onsaid body at a distance from its ends and having openings formed therewith, a sanitary lining for the inner face of said body and holder members between said handles firmly engaging the body of the cap on its outer face and having their inner ends spaced from one another, and substantially hook-shaped outer ends on said holder members to hold the lining in place, said handle openings for the passage of fastening means to attach the cap to'the Wrist of a leather.
