4 Claims.
This invention relates to stoves, and more particularly to a warming oven adapted to be mounted over a cooking stove and serve as an oven or compartment in which dishes and cooked food may be placed where they will be kept warm.
One object of the invention is to provide an .oven of this character wherein warm air is fed into the oven through a pipe disposed about the smoke pipe of the stove and thus cause the interior of the warming oven to be heated by warm .air fed directly into it instead of depending for {its heat upon warm air and products of combustion rising from the top of the stove.
Another object of the invention is to provide an oven and hot air pipe of such construction that they may be firmly secure to a back plate :rising from the top of the stove and formed with ;an opening establishing communication between the pipe and oven, and to further provide an improved valve which is so constructed that by adjusting it, air may be permitted to pass into the oven to heat it or escape from the upper .end of the hot air pipe in case the warming oven is not in use.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing a stove in side elevation having the improved warming oven associated therewith, the oven and its heating pipe being shown in section and also portions of the stove being shown in section.

The stove, which is indicated in general by the numeral 1, is of a conventional construction and may be either a stove or range using any kind of fuel. It is provided with the usual outlet 2 through which products of combustion pass from the stove, and there has also been provided the usual smoke pipe 3 which extends vertically back of the rear plate 4 carried by the stove. The warming oven 5 projects forwardly from the back plate 4 and may be formed integral with this back plate or separate therefrom and secured in any desired manner to the back plate. This warming oven is open at its front and in .order to close the open front of the warming oven, there has been provided a door 6 which is hinged at its lower edge, as shown at l, and

provided with a handle 8 in order that the door may be easily opened or closed.
In order to heat the warming oven, there has been provided an outer pipe or jacket 9 which extends vertically about the smoke pipe 3 and at its lower end, which is open, carries inwardly extending U-shaped clips of resilient metal 10 which bear against the lower end of the smoke pipe and cause the heating pipe to be spaced evenly about the smoke pipe. It will thus be seen that ample space will be provided between the heating pipe and smoke pipe and air may pass upwardly through the heating pipe. At its upper end the heating pipe is formed with an arm or extension I! which projects forwardly and has its upper end closed by a head l2, a portion of which is extended to form a closure for the upper end of the heating pipe and fits snugly about the smoke pipe, as shown clearly in Figure 4. The arm or extension H is rectangular in shape and about its forward end is formed with an outstanding marginal flange l3 through which bolts l4 are passed. These bolts also pass through a plate l5 which has flat face to face engagement with the rear face of the back 4 of the stove and forms a good support for the upper end of the heating pipe, as well as providing a tight joint about margins of its extension. Openings l6 are formed in the plate l5 and are of such dimensions and so spaced from each other that the register with upper and lower portions of an opening I! formed in the back plate of the stove. Therefore, when the openings l6 are uncovered, air may pass through the openings l6 and I! into the warming oven and plates or dishes containing food may be heated and kept warm when placed in the oven.
It is desired to control flow of air from the heating pipe into the warming oven and in order to do so, there has been provided a shutter or valve plate 18 which fits against the front plate l5 of the extension H and has its upper portion bent to form a horizontal flange or extension l9 bearing against the inner face of the head l2. Guides 20 and 2| which are formed of sheet metal and are secured to the front plate l5 and head l2 have offset portions which overlie the lower margin of the valve plate 58 and rear edge of its flange l9. Therefore, the valve plate will be securely held in place but may be slid transversely of the extension ll and the slots 22 and 23 selectively moved into and out of registry with the slots l6 formed in the front plate and slots or openings 24 formed in the head 12. When the slots 22 are in registry with the slots Hi, the
openings or slots 24 will be closed so that all of the air passing upwardly through the heating pipe 9 will pass into the warming oven. If it is found that the warming oven is too hot or it is not desired to use it, the valve plate may be shifted across the extension H into position to close the slots l6 and uncover the openings 24 and warm air passing upwardly through the heating pipe will then pass out through the openings 24. By moving the valve plate to a position in which the slots I6 and 24 will be partiallyuncovered, aportion of the hot air passing upwardly through the heating pipe may enter the, heating oven and the remainder pass out- Wardly through the openings 24. It will thus. be
seen that the temperature of the heating oven may be accurately controlled. As only atmospheric air passes upwardly through'the heating pipe and the products of combustion are confined'in the smoke pipe, only pure air Will enter the heating oven. Adjustment of the valve plate is accomplished by means of a rod 25 which extends through an opening 26 formed in a side Wall of the extension H and has its inner end secured to an ear 2'! projecting from the valve plate. The outer end portion of the adjusting rod is slidably engaged through a guide 23 and this rod is of such length that its free end, which is formed with a hand hold or knob 20, will, atall times, project from a side of the back 4 of the stove where it may be easily grasped and the rod shifted longitudinally to adjust the Valve plate.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed as new is:
1. In combination with a stove including a draft pipe extending vertically therefrom and a vertically disposed back plate for the stove, a warming oven carried by the back plate and projecting forwardly therefrom, a heating pipe extending vertically about the draft pipe and open at its lower end, an extension for the upper end of said draft pipe secured to the back plate in opposed relation to the heating oven, an opening being formed in the back plate to establish communication between the heating oven and the extension of the heating pipe, and means for controlling flow of warm air through the extension of the heating pipe and into the heating oven.
2. A stove having a back plate formed with an opening, a heating oven carried by the back plate about the opening, a draft pipe rising from the stove back of the back plate, a heating pipe about the draft pipe having an extension at its upper end projecting toward the back plate, a front plate for said extension, the extension and front plate being secured to the back plate of the stove and the front plate being formed with an opening registering with the opening in the back plate, a head closing the upper end of the heating pipe and its extension and fitting snugly about the draft pipe and formed with an opening constituting an air outlet for the extension, and means for selectively controlling flow of air from the extension through the air outlet opening and through the registering openings of the frontplate and back plate of the stove into the warming oven,
3. A stove having a back plate formed with an opening, a heating oven secured to the back plate about the opening and projecting forwardly over the stove, a draft pipe rising from the stove back of the back plate, a heating pipe disposed about the draft pipe'and at its upper end formed with 'an extension projecting forwardly toward the back plate, a closure for the front end of the extensionformed with openings registering with the opening; of the back plate to establish communication between the side extension and warming oven, a head forthe side extension and upper end of the heating pipe formed with openings adjacent the forward end of the extension, a
valve plate bearing against the inner face of the closure and having a flange at its upper end bear- .ing against the inner face of the head, guides carried by the closure and head and engaging the valve plate and its flange to slidably mount the valve plate for movement transversely in the ,extension, the valve plate being; formed with openings moved into and out of registry with the openings in the closure by sliding the valve plate, and the flange having openings moved into and out of registry with the openings in the head when the plateis moved and 50 disposed with respect to the openings in the valve plate that when the openings in the head are closed the openings in the closure will be uncovered, and anactuating rod for the valve plate extending through a side wall of the extension and pfbjecting therefrom transversely of the back plate.

In combination with a stove including a draft pipe and a back plate rising from the stove in'front of the draft pipe, a warming oven projecting forwardly from the back'plate, an opening in-the'back plate in communication with the interior of the oven, an air conduit disposed about cating with the warming oven and delivering warm air into the oven.
