Description

This invention aims to provide novel means for holding a tube of tooth paste or the like and for forcing out the contents of the tube. One object of the invention is to improve the construction of the tube compressor and its mounting on the base that carries it. Another object of the invention is to provide novel means for holding the tube on the base. Other objects will be made manifest as the description proceeds.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 4 is a cross section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
The device preferably is made of sheet metal and includes a bracket embodying a plate-like base i having overhanging guide flanges along its longitudinal edges, the base being supplied at its respective ends with a rearwardly offset upper leg 3 and with a rearwardly offset lower leg 4, the legs being provided with oppositely-projecting feet 5, located in the same plane, and
equipped with holes 6, adapted to receive the securing elements (not shown) whereby the device is held in the position of Fig. 1, on a wall or other support. The base i has a recess '5 in its upper end, disposed immediately below an opening 8 in the upper leg 3, the opening being extended a little way into the uppermost foot 5, as shown at 9.
The end of a tooth paste tube I is folded backwardly across the upper end of the base I, through .the opening 8, as shown at H. A resilient pinch clip i2 is thrust downwardly through the opening 8, the end portion of the tube "land the upper end of the base I being bound between the arms of the clip. One arm of the clip I2 presses the tube into the recess 1. The general construction is such that the tube It! is held against sliding downwardly, under the impulse of the tube compressor, next to be described.
The tube compressor I4 is U-shaped in cross section, so that it can bridge the tube It. It has lateral wings l that slide behind the flanges 2 of the base I, the compressor thus being mounted on the base for right line sliding movement. The recess 1 is deep enough to take the end of the tube Ill and one leg of the clip l2, whereby said leg of the pinch clip will be out of the way of the wings E5 of the compressor and will not interfere with the sliding movement of the compressor.
The tube compressor I4 has an outstanding 5 finger piece It at its lower end. A roller H is located within the tube compressor [4, at the lower end thereof, and carries a shaft I8, having its ends journaled in holes 19 in the side walls of the tube compressor M.
The tube compressor I4 is slid downwardly, a little at a time, by means of the finger piece It, the tube It! is flattened against the base I, by the action of the roller ii, and the tooth paste is forced out of the tube, as needed, as indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2.
The form shown is highly satisfactory but a mechanic who keeps within the scope of what is claimed can depart from the exact structure depicted and described, and still keep within the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
1. A device of the class described, comprising a base having overhanging flanges on its longitudinal edges and supplied in one end with a recess, a tube compressor slidable longitudinally of the base and provided with wings slidably engaged behind the flanges of the base, and a pinch clip straddling said end of the base and of such dimensions as to depress a tube into the recess, thereby preventing the tube from being dragged along by the tube compressor, the recess being deep enough to house one leg of the pinch clip, whereby said leg of the pinch clip will be out of the way of the Wings of the compressor and will not interfere with the sliding movement of the compressor.
2. In a device of the class described, a base provided at its ends with offset legs terminating in oppositely-extended attaching feet, one of the legs being provided with an opening, the opening defining an end edge in the base, across which a tube may be folded, a holding member removably inserted through the opening and straddling the said end edge of the base, to hold a folded tube thereon, and a tube compressor mounted for sliding movement on the base, longitudinally of the base.
3. A device of the class described, comprising a base, one end of which forms a shoulder across which a compressible tube may be folded to dispose the extremity of the tube against the rear surface of the base, a U-shaped pinch clip straddling said end of the base, one arm of the clip binding the intermediate portion of the tube against the forward surface of the base, and the other arm of the clip binding the extremity of the tube against the rear surface of the base, thereby holding the tube securely on the base, and giving the clip a double grip on the tube whereby when the clip is withdrawn from the base, the clip will have a tendency to withdraw the tube also, and a tube compressor movable longitudinally of the base.
