This invention relates to attachments for operating tables and more particularly to an attachment for supporting sterilizer trays along either side of the operating table in convenient position for the doctor while he is attending a patient.

An object of the invention is to provide a support for clamping to the operating table and more particularly to one of the other of the stir- 111p supporting rods thereof so as to support the sterilizing tray in a convenient position above the plane of the table.

Another object of the invention is to provide an attachment for supporting a sterilizing tray 5 with clamping means for clamping it to an op-' erating table and an adjustable clamping means thereon for varying the size of the support accommodating it for difierent sized sterilizing trays.

Referring to the drawing an operating table IU of conventional form is shown wherein the back portion H is illustrated in the horizontal position with respect to the seat portion l2 and 35 the leg portion I3 is in an inclined position. The

usual form of clamping means for these parts are conventionally represented.

The operating table it? is provided with horizontally extending stirrup rods M at either side, 40 the one to the front only showing and the stirrup removed therefrom. As shown in Fig. 1 a sterilizing tray support, generally designated I5, is shown clamped in a convenient position on this stirrup rod I 4 supporting a sterilizing tray H5 at a con- 45 venient position above the operating table.

Referring to the perspective view, Fig. 2, this tray supporting attachment I5 is shown in detail and comprises a clamp I'I having a cylindrical aperture l8 therein with upwardly and down- 50 wardly projecting slots I9 and a clamping set screw 20. This clamp is adaptable to engage either a cylindrical rod through the cylindrical aperture I 8 or a rectangular bar by means of the slots I9, the apertures being so formed as to 55 provide a snug fit on the standard types of operating tables. When positioned on a table the said set screw 20 is turned so as to hold the clamp in the desired. adjusted position.

The upper portion 2! of the clamp supports a horizontal bar 22 and an upright 23 at the top of which is a tray supporting bar 24 which is preferably provided with spaced upwardly extending end members 25 for supporting the handle 26 of a tray i6 as generally indicated in Fig. 1.

On the other end of bar 22' is a clamp 21 with 10? its engaging set screw 28 for holding this clamp in the desired position on bar 22 and as indicated at 29 and 29' the bar is preferably provided with notches for receiving the end of screw 28 so as to definitely locate the clamp in one or more positions along bar 22 for supporting standard sized trays l6, either long trays as shownin Fig.

1 or short trays as provided for by the'notch 29'. Clamp 21, however, may be secured in other positions along the bar than the two positions defined by the notches as will be' readily understood. I

Clamp 21 is likewise providedwith an upright 23 at the top' of which is a supporting bar 24 with spacedforwardly and upwardly extending end members 25.

As shown in Fig. 1 the tray is supported on the bars 24- and it will be seen that the distance between these supports may be adjusted by changing the position of clamp 2'! along bar 22 so that 30 sterilizing trays of different lengths may be supported thereby.

Sincethe stirrup rods on some operating ta-- bles are round and on other tables they are fiat, it will be seen that the tray support is adaptable for either form. The stirrup on either side of the table, most convenient for the doctor, is removed and the rack is placed on, this rod at the desired position and clamped in place. The sterilizer tray is: removed from the sterilizer and 40 placed on the rack provided by the supporting bars 24 between which it is suspended. By the provision of this rack the sterilizer tray and instruments are readily accessible to the doctor and he can pick up any instrument he needs without having to ask his assistant for it, or having to reach over for it from the sterilizer or another table. In this way no instrument is touched after sterilization and is most conveniently placed for the doctor while treating his patient.

In Figure 1 the tray support is arranged to hold the tray extended inwardly of the stirrup bar as shown. The stirrup bar can be swung on its support so as to position the tray at any desired angle with respect to the table lll,-forwardly towards the head of the operating table, laterally outward or rearwardly with respect thereto. However, it is often preferable that this tray support be reversed on the stirrup bar so as to extend the tray outwardly from the end of the stirrup bar. In Fig. 3 of the drawing the tray support 35 is shown in such reverse position on a stirrup bar 32.

This tray support 3| is a simplified form of support similar to the one shown in Figures 1 and and 2 of the drawing except that it is made to support one standard size tray, the supporting uprights 33 being rigidly secured to the bar 34 instead of being adjustable towards and away from each other. This tray support is similarly provided with a clamp 35 whereby it may be adjusted to any desired-position along the stirrup bar 32.

Either tray may be positioned in either direction on the bars and they are adaptable to the stirrup bar on either side of the table,-operating or treatment tables-and they provide most convenient attachments for positioning on stirrup bars of such tables.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in this device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawing and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp, a clamp movable along said bar, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of said clamps.

2. An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, said clamp having a cylindrical slot therethrough for positioning it on: a cylindrical stirrup supporting rod of the operating table, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp, a clamp movable along said bar, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of said clamps.

3. An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, said clamp having a slot therethrough for positioning it on either a cylinder or rectangular bar, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp, a clamp movable along said bar, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of said clamps.

An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said. bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, said clamp having a cylindrical slot therethrough with upper and lower slots for positioning it on a cylindrical stirrup supporting rod of the operating table or on a rectangular bar, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp, a clamp movable along said bar, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of said clamps.

An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp, a clamp movable along said bar, said bar having a notch therein for definitely locating said clamp thereon, said clamp having a screw therein for securing the clamp to the bar and engageable with said notch, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of said clamps.

6. An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp, a clamp movable along said bar, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of said clamps, said tray supporting members including a bar having separated upwardly extending ends whereby a sterilizing tray is maintained in position thereon.

An attachment for operating tables comprising a sterilizing tray supporting bracket, said bracket consisting of a clamp for securing it to the table, said clamp having a cylindrical slot therethrough with upper and lower slots for positioning it on a cylindrical stirrup supporting rod of the operating table or on a rectangular bar, a bar extending horizontally from said clamp a clamp movable along said bar, said bar having a notch therein for definitely locating said clamp thereon, said clamp having a screw therein for securing the clamp to the bar and engageable with said notch, and upwardly extending tray supporting members on each of saidclamps.
