The invention relates to an attachment for copy holders and more especially to a typewriter copy holder actuating device.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein a copy holder for service with a. typewriter can be controlled through the medium of a foot treadle, thereby eliminating the handling of the work to be copied by hand, thereby freeing the hands of the operative of the typewriter and avoiding the necessity of having to reach from the typewriter to the holder toraise the copy sheet in the line spacing thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the same can be readily and easily adjusted to vary the spacing of the copy work and the copy holder operated through foot action instead of by hand.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple I in construction, reliable and efficient in operation, readily and easily manipulated, strong, durable, and inexpensive to manufacture and install. With these and other objects in view, the in- 23 vention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and point- 30 ed out in the claims hereunto appended.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of a typewriter desk, partly broken away, showing a typewriter supported thereby and a copy holder with the attachment constructed in accordance with the invention applied to the latter.

Figure 4 is a plan view of the treadle of the attachment.

5 Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates generally a typewriter desk, a portion of the same being broken away, and B the support or shelf for a typewriter C and upon which also is supported perpendicularly a copy holder, a por- 55 tion thereof being indicated at In. This copy holder I0 is of a conventional line spacing type and its operating shaft H has loosely journaled thereon a ratchet arm l2 carrying a ratchet dog or pawl l3 coacting with a ratchet wheel I l which is fixed to the shaft so that when the ratchet dog or pawlv I3 is operated by the arm l2 the ratchet wheel I4. can be. turned. under the engagement of the said pawl or dog with its teeth l5 for raising the copy work as carried within the holder l0.
Located within the knee space of the desk A and supported upon a floor or foundation carrying the desk is the base piece l6 for a foot treadle l1 hinged at l8 to said piece it. The top face of the base piece I6 is formed with a spring seat I9 and likewise the under face of the treadle ll carries a companion spring seat 20, these accommodating the ends of a coiled expansion spring 2! which automatically swings the treadle ll upwardly when pressure has been relieved therefrom of the foot of an operative of the typewriter C.
The treadle H has fitted therewith a tread covering 22 and carries a laterally projecting extension 23 to which is pivoted at 24 the lower end of the lower tubular section 25 of an extensible rod, the upper section 26 of the latter being telescoped into the lower section 25 and these are adjustably secured together by a set screw 21 so as to increase or decrease the throw of the arm I2.
Arranged on the support B is a fixed bearing 28 carrying a pivot 29 for a rocking lever 30 which through the pivot 3| and slot 32 has limited play connection with the arm I2 at one end thereof while the other end of this lever 30 is formed with a fiat rounded terminal head 33 for adjustable accommodation in the bifurcated end 34 of an extension lever 35, the bifurcated end 34 at that portion underlying the head 33 carries a stirrup 36 for the latter while the other end of this lever 35 is pivoted at 31 to the upper end of the section 26 of the extension rod.
Adjustably fitted in the extension lever 35 is a stop pin 38 which is held adjusted relative thereto by a set screw 33 and the lower end of this pin carries a rubber tip 40 which is adapted for contact with the support B of the typewriter desk A and when contacting therewith limits the throw of the rocking lever 30 which regulates the feed of the copy holder in the line spacing of the copy work therein.
The bifurcated end 34 of the lever 35 carries set screws 4|, these fastening the head terminal 33 adjustably engaged in said bifurcated end 34 as will be apparent from Figures 2 and 3 of the drawing.
It should be apparent from Figure 1 that when the treadle I! is actuated the copy holder will be operated for line spacing of copy work as carried thereby and on adjustment of the extension rod the feed action of the attachment can be varied.
The foot treadle operation of the attachment avoids the necessity of the operative of the typewriter having the burden of using the hand or hands for adjustment of the copy holder as the hands are free for the working of the typewriter while the foot of the operative will actuate said copy holder.
What is claimed is:
1. An attachment of the character described, comprising a foot treadle, a rocking lever having a flat circular head terminal, a bifurcated extension lever accommodating the head terminal in its bifurcation, means adjustably connecting the head in said bifurcated lever, an extensible rod pivotally connected to the treadle and said ex tension lever, and means operated by the exten sion lever for the feeding of Work in a copy holder.
2. An attachment of the character described, comprising a foot treadle, a rocking lever having a flat circular head terminal, a bifurcated extension lever accommodating the head terminal in its bifurcation, means adjustably connecting the head in said bifurcated lever, an extensible rod pivotally connected to the treadle and said extension lever, means operated by the extension lever for the feeding of work in a copy holder, a bearing for said rocking lever for mounting on a typewriter support, and a stop pin adjustably connected with the extension lever for contact with the support to limit the throw of the rocking lever.
3. An attachment of the character described, comprising a foot treadle, a rocking lever having a flat circular head terminal, a bifurcated extension lever accommodating the head terminal in its bifurcation, means adjustably connecting the head in said bifurcated lever, an extensible rod pivotally connected to the treadle and said extension lever, means operated by the extension lever for the feeding of work in a copy holder, a bearing for said rocking lever for mounting on a typewriter support, a stop pin adjustably connected with the extension lever for Contact with the support to limit the throw of the rocking lever, and a stirrup on the bifurcated lever for said terminal head.
