n 5 Claims. (ci. etc-'42) .This invention relates to containers for medicine tablets and has for its object to provide a comparatively simple and thoroughly ecient device of this character by means of which medicine tablets may be conveniently carried in the pocket without liability of breakage and retained in a sanitary condition until used.
A further object of the invention is toprovide an open-ended container having a holder slidably mounted therein and provided with tablet receiving seats or pockets opening through the opposite faces thereof whereby, when the holder is moved to open position, a selected tablet may be conveniently ejected from its seat by exerting a slight upward pressure on the lower surface of the tablet.
A further object is toprovide the tablet receiving seats or pockets of the holder with. inwardly extending retaining flanges on which the tablets rest so that the upper surfaces of the tablets will always remain flush with the upper surface of the holder and thus prevent accidental mutilation or breakage of the tablets when opening or closing the container.
A still further object is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a container for medicine tablets constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the slide or holder in partially open position and one of the tablets ejected from its seat or pocket.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
The improved device forming the subject-matter of the present invention comprises a shallow box or container 5,preferab1y rectangular in shape and formed of metal, the opposite ends of the container being open, as indicated at 5. Slidably mounted within the container 5 is a holder 1,
preferably formed of molded plastic material, such as vulcanized fiber, bakelite, or the like and having a plurality of circular seats or pockets 8 formed therein adapted to receive correspondingly shaped medicine tablets 9 possessing laxative or other medicinal properties. The walls of the seats or pockets are molded or otherwise formed with inwardly extending retaining flanges I0 having their lower surfaces disposed flush with the bottom of the holder and their upper surfaces spaced downwardly from the upper surface 'offy said lholder and on which the tablets 3 Aare adapted to rest so as to retain the upper surfaces of all of the tablets Vflush with the upper surface of the holder and thus prevent breakage 5 or mutilation of the tablets when opening and closing the container. The seats or pockets 8 open through the upper and lower surfaces of the holder 1 soI that when the holder is withdrawn, or partially withdrawn from the conl0 tainer 5 and an upward pressure is exerted on the bottom of a selected tablet, said tablet will be ejected from its seat, leaving the remaining tablets intact within the holder. When the holder is in the closed position shown in Figure 3 of the 15 drawing, the container 5 will house and protect the tablets soas to keep them in a sanitary condition until used and at the same time prevent displacement of the tablets from their seats, as will be readily understood. 20
Asy the container is relatively thin or iat, it may be conveniently carried in the vest pocket of the user without discomfort and without liability of air coming in contact with the tablets and causing crumbling or disintegration thereof. By 25 forming the holder of molded plastic material, the desired rigidity is imparted thereto and it is not affected by weather conditions and does not contaminate or otherwise impair the medicinal properties of the tablets by contact therewith. It will, of course, be understood that the containers may be made in different sizes and shapes and the holders provided with any desired number of tablet receiving seats without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. A device of the class described comprising an open-ended container, a holder slidably mounted within the container and provided with seats extending transversely therethrough and normally open at the top and bottom of the holder and adapted to receive medicine tablets,
the walls of said seats being provided with retaining flanges disposed substantially flush with the lower surface of the holder and on which the tablets rest.
2. A device of the class described comprising an open-ended container, a holder slidably mounted in the container and provided with seats normally opening through the upper and lower surfaces ,of the holder and adapted to receive correspondingly shaped medicine tablets, the walls of the seats being provided with inwardly extending retaining flanges disposed substantially ush with the lower surface of the holder whereby when the holder is withdrawn or partially withdrawn from the container and an upward pressure is exerted on the bottom of a selected tablet, said tablet will be automatically ejected from its seat without disturbing the remaining tablets. Y
3. A device of the class described comprising a at relatively thin opens-endedv container,Y a holder slidably and snugly tting within the container and provided with seats opening through the upper and lower surfaces of thea holder, the walls of said seats being vprovided with retaining annular flanges disposed flush with the lower surface of the holder and adapted normally open at the top and bottom of said holder and adapted to receive medicine tablets, the walls of the seats being provided with annular retaining flanges, the lower surfaces of which are disposed flush with the lower surface of the holder and upon which the tablets rest whereby the upper surfaces of the tablets will lie in the plane of the upper surface of the holder. V5'. A device-ofthe class described comprising an open-ended container, a holder formed of molded plastic material slidably mounted within the container and provided with seats extending transversely through the holder and normally open at the top and bottom thereof and adapted to receive Ymedicine tablets, the plastic material at the lower portions of the seats being pressed inwardly to form integral tablet supporting flanges, the lower faces of which are disposed substantially flush with the lower surface of said holder.
