2 Claims. (01. 58-115) This invention relates to securing means for balance or hair springs of watches and has for its main object to provide a device of this type which will be simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and reliable in use.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device as characterized hereinbefore which may be assembled or disassembled easily and expeditiously and which will be adapted for mass manufacturing.
With these and other objects, as will appear as the specification proceeds, my invention mainly consists in providing a sheet metal element, preferably of two identical halves which may be folded upon one another along its center axis and between the two halves of which the end of the hair spring may be frictionally caught while the two overlapping ends may be secured to the bridge of the watch by a screw or similar means.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification and accompanying the same:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the blank of my device;
Fig. 2 is a diagrammatical enlarged fragmentary plan of a portion of a watch mechanism showing the application of my device thereto;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary elevation of my device as applied on the bridge of a watch, while Fig. 4 is a sectional elevation of the device shown in Fig. 3.
Referring now to the drawing more in detail by characters of reference, the numeral I0 indicates the blank, being the main part of my device and being a form preferably stamped out of sheet metal or like material, having an elongated or web portion H and two preferably identical circular heads I2 and 13. An aperture I 4 is provided in the center of the head l2 and a similar aperture I5 is punched in the head l3 in such a manner that, when the blank I0 is folded upon itself along its central axis of symmetry indicated by the dot and dash lines [6, the two heads l2 and I3 and the two apertures l4 and I5 will be in registering relation to one another.
In Fig. 2, the numeral l1 indicates the bridge of a watch and the numeral I8 a projecting part thereof to which it is desired to secure the end l9 5 of the usual hair spring or balance spring 2!].
As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, said projection I8 will, for this purpose, be provided with a screw threaded hole 2| and the folded blank ID will be applied on the face 22 of said projection by its 10 heads l2 and I3 and said heads will be together secured on the face 22 by the screw 23, the end 19 of the hair spring 20 being frictionally held between the portions of the blank l0 adjacent to the fold 24 thereof, as at 25. 15
It will be understood that changes and variations may be made in the parts and combinations of my device and I hereby reserve all my rights to any and all such changes as are within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended 20 claims.
What I claim as new is:
1. A securing device for the hair springs of watches, comprising a member of sheet material folded upon itself, the two ends thereof having 5 registering means whereby to secure them together to a stationary part of the watch, a portion of the hair spring being retained between the two branches of said folded member by frictional action.
2. A securing device for the hair springs of watches, comprising a member of sheet material folded upon itself, the two ends thereof having registering means whereby to secure them together to a stationary part of the watch, a portion of the hair spring being retained between the two branches of said folded member by frictional action, said registering, securing means comprising an aperture in each end of said member and a screw passing through said aperture and engaging said part of the watch mechanism.
