The primary object of the invention yis to provide a feed mechanism for automatically advancing successive lengths of continuous-form perforated stationery strips in alinement through impression receiving position, and a supply container for said stationery which can be installed readily on the standard machines now commonly in use.

Heretofore, Addressograph machines have been used to impress a diierent legend on each successive article fed into impression receiving position. No invention isv claimed in this machine per se. As is well understood in the art, the machine is equipped with a reciprocating slide mechanism i6 which is operated by a pitman il connected at its rear end to a crank u I8 on the shaft i9 which is driven through suitable gears and a belt 2i] by the motor J. II'he mechanism includes a reciprocating conveyor ISE for moving the printing plates B seriatim from the magazine B beneath the table 2i of the frame A to impression receiving position and thereafter move them into the receiving magazine E.
In accordance with the present invention, a stationery holder G, as shown in Figs. 1 and 12, is mounted on the table of the machine above the mechanisms C and D. The holder comprises a base member 22 which is adapted to rest loosely on the table and a base member 23 having an inwardly projecting plate 2li provided with a projection 25 adapted to engage a key- Way 26 in the table of the machine and held in position by means of a single bolt 21. The base members are provided with suitable standards 28 and 2e which are rigidly connected together by means of cross bars 3B and3i. Preferably, as shown in Fig. 15, the members 28 and 29 are provided with angle members 32 having apertures 33 adapted to receive downwardly extending studs 3B provided on the basket-supporting cross bar 35. As best shown in Fig. 12, the stationery container or basket comprises a pair of longitudinally extending members 36 which are rigidly connected together in spaced relation byA means of laterally extending members 3l and is adjustably secured to the cross bar 35. This connection is made at laterally extending slots 38 so that the basket may be adjusted with respect to the printing mechanism. The frame is further provided with uprights 39 connected by a cross bar 40 and supporting at their upper end a laterally adjustable guide roll 4I provided on a shaft 42. The ends of the roll 4| are provided with circumferential flanges to guide the sta- 5 tionery from the basket. Obviously, the roller 4| must be in alinement with the basket. The device is further provided with a lower guide roll 43 which is laterally adjustable on a shaft 44 carried by downwardly extending arms 45 which are pivotally mounted at 46 on the uprights 28 and 29. A coil spring 41 urges the arms rearwardly against a stop 48 and its forward movement is limited by an arm 49 engaginga stop 50, as shown by dotted lines in lig. 14. In operation, the stationery is advanced intermittently, by jerks, and the yielding mounting of the lower iguide roll 43 prevents the stationery-from being torn during its advance.
The feed mechanism H is demountably secured on the cross bar' 5| provided at the front edge of the table 2|. The device is removably secured in position by means of a wing bolt 52, as shown in Fig. 5. The device is provided with forwardly and downwardly projecting arms 53 in which is journaled a pinwheel shaft 54 provided with suitable bearing members 55 and spacing members 56. The shaft is provided with a. pair of hub members 51 to which are secured outwardly extending pin members 58 having flattened end portions yadapted t engage perforations 59 provided in the stationery 80. The device is further provided with an inner xed guide member 6| provided with arcuate slots 62 through which the pins 58 may extend and engage the stationery. In upwardly extending journal members 63 is mounted a guide roller 64 on the shaft 65.` A curved upper guide plate 5S is hinged to the shaft 65, as indicated at 61, and is provided with slots 68 for the pins 58. The shaft is further provided with a rearwardly extending guide plate 69 which is hinged to the shaft v65 at 10 and is adapted to rest lightly on the stationery advancing from printing position.
Between the guide members 69 and the guide roller 43 of the stationery lholder is provided a curved guide plate l1| adapted to extend forwardly over a portion of the printing mechanism and is supported on studs 12 provided on theframe G.

30 As shown in Fig.7, the right end of the pinwheel shaft 54 is slotted at- 18 so that it may extend into a socket member 19 of the drive mechanism which is provided with a driving pin 80. VThe socket member 19 has a trunnion 8| which 65 `is journaled in a plate 82 and is provided with a fixed pinion gear 83 which, as shown in Fig. 8, meshes with a gear 84 provided on a shaft 85 projecting laterally from the plate 82. As shown in Figs. 7, 9 and 10, the socket mem- 70 ber 19 is provided with slots 86 adapted to be engaged by a bolt 81 slidably held on the plate 82 by means of a housing 88. A tension spring 89 urges -saig bolt into engagement with one of the slots 86. The bolt is provided with a stud 90 75 extending through a slot 9| in the plate 82 and is equipped with a roller 92 for withdrawing the bolt against the tension of the spring 89.
The gear 84 is provided with a ratchet wheel 93 which is adapted to be engaged by a pawl 94 pivoted to a cam arm 95 at 96. A spring 91 urges 5 the pawl into engagement with the ratchet. The cam arm 95 is journaled on the shaft 85 and is provided with a cam face 98 which is adapted p on oscillation to engage the roller 92 and withdraw the bolt from locking position. On the re- 10 turn stroke, it will engage ratchet teeth and impart a turning movement to the pinwheel shaft 54. The cam member is provided with a radial slot 99 to which is adjustably secured ay pitman or link |00 by means of a bolt |0|, andthe rear 15 end of the pitman is connected at |02 to thereciprocating pitman |1 which is driven.A by the crank 8. The operation of the device will be readily 25 understood from the above and it will be understood that although the motor J is operatingl continuously, the feed mechanism H, like the printing mechanism C and D, due to the ratchet device, will operate to move the stationery for- 30. wardly intermittently. Whenever the treadle |01 is depressed to begin feeding the printing plates into printing position, the ratchet mechanism will begin to advance successive lengths of stationery in timed relation to the movement of the 35 printing plates. The adjustable connections provided at 99 and |03 permit the length ofl feed to be varied in accordance with the spacing of the perforations 59 in the stationery 60.
If desired, the stationery holder G maybe 40V placed in rear of the chute B and suitable guide rolls used to direct the stationery over the top of the chute. However, it is preferred to mount it as shown. It will be understood, also, that the stationery may be interleaved with coexten- 45 sive strips of carbon provided with suitable per.- forations, or, if desired, the carbon' may be fed transversely over the printing plate between the stationery strips, as is the usual practice in duplicating machines. 50

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

2. A device as specified in claim 1, in which the feed-means comprises movably mounted register pins adapted to engage register perforations provided in each form length of stationery.
3. A device as speciiled'in claim l, in which the feed-means comprises a wheel equipped with register pins adapted to engage register perforations provided in each forni length of stationery,

6. A device as specied in claim 5, in which the stationery holder is provided with a pivotally mounted guide roll adapted yielding'ly to direct the stationery into printing position.
7. In combination with a'. -printing machine adapted to impress automatically a different legend at each operation upon successive lengths of stationery fed therethrough; a stationery holder comprising a framev detachably mounted on said machine, a basket mounted on said frame to hold a supply of zig-zag folded continuous-form stationery: a guide roll journaled in said frame above said basket, a second guide roll mounted on said frame below said basket, and a guide plate mounted on said frame beneath the second-mentioned guide roll to direct stationery led from said -basket into printing position.
8. A device as speciied in claim 7, in which a pair of arms are pivotally mounted on the frame, the second-mentioned guide ro'll is journaled in the lower ends of said arms, and spring means are provided on said arms to urge said roll rearwardly into yielding contact with the stationery.
9. A device as specied in claim 7.' in which the Aguide rolls are provided near each end with circumferential guide iianges and said anges and the basket are adjustable laterally with respect to the frame.
10. In -combination with a printing machine adapted to impress automatically a different legend at each operation upon successive lengths of stationery fed therethrough; feed mechanism for advancing said stationery comprising a rotatable wheel having outwardly extending register pins, a slotted guide plate for stripping the stationeryi from engagement with said pins, and means for rotating said wheel intermittently in timed relation to the operation of the printing machine.
ll. A device as specied in claim 10, in which means for rotating the wheel comprises a ratchet wheel, an oscillatable pawl in engagement with said wheel, and a pitman connected at one end to at the other end to a provided on the printing masaid pawl and connected rotatable crank chine.
12. In combination with a printing machine adapted to impress automatically a dm'erent legend at each operation upon successive lengths of stationery fed therethrough; feed mechanism for advancing said stationery comprising a rotatable wheel having outwardly extending register pins and a bolt slot, a movable bolt for engaging said slot and locking said wheel against rotation, a ratchet wheel for driving the pinwheel, an oscillatable cam arm adapted to move said bolt from engagement with the slot, a pawl on said cam arm for engaging said ratchet wheel, and a pitman connected at one end lto said cam arm and at the other end to a rotatable crank provided on the printing machine.
13. In combination: a printing machine having a frame provided with a table; a magazine of printing plates disposed at the rear of said table; a tray beneath said table for receiving said plates; means for shifting the printing plates seriatim from said magazine through a printing position on said table to said tray; a source of supply for a plurality of separate strips of continuous-form stationery; feeding and alining means for advancing said strips in register through printing position on said table; -a platen roll and means adapted to reciprocate said roll intermittently over the stationery in printing position to impress a legend thereon; and driving means for actuating the plate-shifting means, the stationery feeding means, and the platen roll reciprocating means in timed relation.
14. A device as specified in claim 13, in which stationery feeding means comprises a register pin movably mounted on said table and adapted to engage register perforations provided in said strips.
15. A device as specified in claim 13, in which the source of supply for the strips comprises a basket mounted on a frame above platen roll, a guide member on said frame above said basket near the back of said table. and a second guide member on said frame beneath the rst-mentioned guide member for directing the stationery into printing position.
16. A device as specified in claim 13, in which the` source of supply for the strips is near the rear of the table, and the stationery feeding means is mounted on'the front of said table and is equipped with a rearwardly extending guide member for holding the stationery in contact with said table.
17. In combination with a printing machine comprising an upright plate-magazine, a bed extending from the base thereof, means for transferring plates in succession from said magazine to printing position on said bed, and a platen roll disposed above and co-acting with the positioned printing-plate: means -for supporting continuous-form stationery; means disposed in front of said'magazlne for guiding said stationery downwardly to and forwardly over said bed; and intermittently actuated stationery-feeding mechanism operating in timed relation with respect to said printing machine.
