The selvage trimming devices being stationary at all times except when a filling end lis'iprasented thereto, the wear incident to continued operation of the prior continuouslyoperating devices is practically eliminated. Furthermore, the determining of operation ornonoperation of the trimming devices in accordance with actual presence or absence of a filling end to be cut eliminates the complex timing devices and other parts of the aforementioned prior mechanisms which were connected to the filling replenishing mechanism.
Having fully disclosed the preferred embodiment of the present invention, I claim:
1. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of selvage trimming means including a movable filling parting member, means normally holding said member stationary in, inoperative position, and means for restoring said member to operation only upon the presentation thereto of a filling end in position to be parted thereby.
2. In. a filling replenishing loo-m, the combination of selvage trimming means including a movable cutter blade, means normally holding said cutter blade stationary in inoperative position, means for detecting the presence of a filling end in position to be cut by said cutter blade, and means controlled by said detecting means for restoring said cutter blade to operation.
3. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of filling replenishingmeans, selvage trimming means including a movable cutter blade, means normally holding said cutter blade stationary in inoperative position, means for detecting the formation by said replenishing means of filling ends projecting from the cloth selvage, and means con.- trolled by said detecting means for operatively moving said cutter blade to thereby out each filling end formed as aforesaid.
4. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the lay, selvage trimming means, means normally rendering said selvage trimming means inoperative, means carried by the lay for detecting the presence of a filling end projecting from the cloth selvage, and means controlled by said, detecting means for rendering said selvage trimming means operative to part said filling end.
5. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the lay, selvage trimming means. including a movable cutter blade, means normally holding said cutter blade in inoperative position, means carried by the lay for detecting the presence of a filling end projecting from the cloth selvage in position to be cut by said cutter blade, and means controlled by said detecting means for restoring said cutter blade to operation only when a filling end is present as aforesaid.
6. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of filling replenishing means, selvage trimming means including a movable cutter blade, means normally holding said cutter blade in inoperative position, means carried by the lay for detectingithespresentation it!) said selvage trim-T reach filling end formed by said-re-i plenishing means, and means controlled by said detectingmeansforoperatively moving said cutter blade toftherebyscut eachisaid'fiiling endupon its detection as aforesaid.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the lay, selvage trimming means including a movable cutter blade adjacent the cloth selvage, means carried by the lay for detecting the presence or absence of filling ends projecting from the cloth selvage adjacent said cutter'blade, and means controlled by said detecting means for operatively moving said cutter blade when filling ends are present as aforesaid and holding the cutter blade stationary when no such ends are present.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the forwardly and rearwardly reciprocating lay, filling replenishing means which, upon operation, incidentally forms filling ends projecting from the cloth selvage, selvage trimming means including a movable cutter blade positioned adjacent the cloth selvage, means normally. holding said cutter blade stationary in inoperative position, means for detecting the presence of said filling ends adjacent said cutter blade, and means controlled by said detecting means for operatively moving said cutter blade to out each said filling endduring the first backward beat of the lay following its detection.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the reciprocating lay, selvage trimming means including a forwardly and rearwardly movable cutter blade positioned adjacent the cloth selvage, means for detecting the presence of a filling end projecting from the cloth selvage in position to be cut by said cutter blade, a spring comprising means normally holding said cutter blade stationary in its forward position, and means controlled by said detecting means for first moving said cutter blade rearwardly and then releasing the same to control of said spring during the first backward beat of the lay following the detection of said filling end as aforesaid. In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the lay, a temple having a movable cutter blade thereon, a spring normally holding said cutter blade stationary in inoperative position, a detector finger carried by'the lay for detecting the presence of a filling end projecting from the cloth selvage adjacent said cutter blade, and means controlled by said detector finger for operatively moving said cutter blade only when a filling end positioned as aforesaid is detected by said finger.

In a filling replenishing loom, the combination of the lay, a temple having a forwardly and rearwardly movable cutter blade mounted in a guideway therein, a spring yieldingly holding said cutter blade stationary in its forward position, a detector finger carried by the lay for detecting the presence of a filling end projecting 75 fro m thecloth salvage, and acutter operating member carried by the lay and controlled by'said detector finger for movin isaid cutter blade rear-V a wardly and then releasing thetsame' upon each occurrence of a filling end as aforesaid.
