Application April 20,1936, Serial No. 15,470

The present invention relates to improvements in beauty appliances and has reference more particularly to a combined chin strap and hair cap.
One of the important objects of the present in- 5 vention resides in the provision of a facial mask or bandage which will efiectiyely reduce double chins, eliminate tell-tale lines and help fill out hollow cheeks in a manner to restore the youthful facial contour.
10 Another important object is to provide a com bined chin strap and hair cap, wherein the cap will keep the coiiiure or wave set in place while the device is worn, when the user rests or sleeps.
A still further and important object is to prol5 vide' a facial bandage of the above mentioned character which will fit the chin and lower jaw of a child or grown person and be so held on the head of the wearer, that the mouth of the user will be kept closed while such person sleeps, thus 39 preventing snoring and correcting improper breathing, especially in children.
Another salient object is to provide a combined chin strap and hair cap that can be readily and easily placed in position on the head and prop- 35 erly adjusted for placing the desired and necessary tension on the chin strap, so that drooping and sagging muscles and/or tissues are correctly supported in 'a manner to give an attractive and youthful expression.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, forming a part of this speci- 55 fication, and in which like numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the same: V
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device embodying our invention, showing the same in use; Fi e 2 is a front elevation of the combined m chin strap and hair cap illustrated on the head of the'wearer;
Figure 3 is a rear elevation thereof Figure 4 is an enlarged perspective view of 1 the device per se; Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view take approximately on the line 5-5 of Figure 4 and Figure 6 is a transverse section taken approximately on the line 68-of Figure 4. In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown the preferred embodiment of our invention, the numeral I designates generally the hair cap, forming an important part of the present device. This hair cap is preferably formed of open-work fabric, such as fine net, and is composed of a pair of like head and face portions or sections, the head portion being designated by the numeral 2 and the face portions or sections by the numeral 3.
As will bereadily observed upon referring to Figure 4 of'the drawings, the edges of these head 5 and face sections are curved. The upper edges of the head or crown portions are disposed in overlapping relation and a binding strip of lace 4 is disposed on top of the overlapping upper edges of the head or crown sections and is stitched 10 thereto by the stitching 5 as clearly indicated in Figure5. I
The back of the crown of the hair cap is left open so as to form free rear end portions 6, the purpose of which will be hereinafter more fully described. Again referring to Figure l of the drawings, it will be noted that the side'or face portions 3 taper gradually toward their lower ends, these side portions beingof such length I as to terminate at a point adjacent the respec- 0 tive sides of the-lower Jaw of the face, when the device is in use.
A lace strip 7 extends around the free edgesof the head and face sections and is stitched there- 1 to, to add to the appearance of the hair cap. 2
Forming a salient part of the present invention is the chin strap designated by the numeral 8. This chin strap is preferably formed of the very finest French elastic material and is capable "of stretching in a longitudinal'direction only.
The longitudinal edges of the elastic chin strap 8 have bindings 9 stitched thereto in the manner as clearly shown in Figure 6 of the drawings. This elastic chin strap is of a width substantially equal to the width of the lower free ends of the face or side portions 3 of thehair cap and the ends of this elastic chin strap are stitched to the respective lower free ends of these side or face portions The forwardedges of the hair cap and the elastic chin strap cooperate to form an opening ID for the face of the wearer and normally,
the elastic chin strap 8 is not under tension.
A looped strap H is connected to'the top of the open rear portion of the crown as at l2. Also a forming an important part ofthe present invendrawn through the looped strap ll and the freeend portions of the tie-ribbons are then tied into a bow l5 after the elastic chin strap has been properly tensioned and the desired firmness has been reached.
When the device is secured in position on the head of the wearer, in the manner shown inFigures 1, 2 and 3 of the drawings, the person wearing the device can retire to bed and the hair -cap will keep the hair or wave set in place and at the same time, the elastic chin strap will-properly support drooping and sagging muscles or tissues and will further effectively reduce double chins as well as eliminate tell-tale lines and help fill out hollow cheeks in a manner to restore the youthful facial contour.
A combined chin support and hair cap of the above character justdescribed will also prevent snoring and correct improper breathing, especially in cases of children.
The simplicity of our deviceenables the same to be readily and easily placed in position on the rious changes in the size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resortedto without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
' Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
1. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a hair cap of open work fabric including a crown portion and side pieces for disposition against the sides of the face, the ends of the side pieces terminating adjacent the respective sides of the lower jaw, and a chin strap of elastic material connected at its ends to the lower ends of the aforementioned side pieces.
2. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a hair cap of open work fabric including a crown portion and side pieces for dis position against the sides of the face, the ends of the side pieces terminating adjacent the respective sides of the lower jaw, a chinstrap of elastic material connected at its ends to the .lower ends of the aforementioned side pieces, and means for securing the hair cap on the head and simultaneously tensioning the elastic chin strap.
3. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a. hair cap of open work fabric, comprising a pair of like head and face portions, said head portions being connected together at their upper edges, the face portions terminating at their lower ends at a point adjacent the respective sides of the lower jaw of the face, a chin strap of elastic material connected at its endsto .the respective lower ends of the face portions,
aosasai 'prisinga pair of like head and face portions, said head portions being connected together at their upper edges, the face portions terminating at their lower ends at a point adjacent therespective sides of the lower jaw of the face, a chin strap 5 of elastic material connected at its ends to the respective lower ends of the face portions, and means at the back of the hair cap for securing the device on the head and holding the elastic chin strap under tension, said last mentioned 10 means including tie-ribbons connected at one end to the lower rear corners of the head portions. 5. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a hair cap of open work fabric,
comprising a pair of like head and face portions, 15
said head portions being connected together at their upper edges, the face portions terminating at their lower ends at a point adjacent the respective sides of the lowerjaw of the face, a chin strap of elastic material connected at its ends 20 to the respective lower ends of the face portions, and means at the back of the hair cap for'securing the device on the head'and holding the elastic chin strap under tension, said last mentioned means including tie-ribbons connected at one end to the lower rear corners of the head portions, and a looped strap attached to the connected upper rear ends of the head portions, through which one of the ribbons is drawn before the free 30 ends of the ribbons are tied together.
6. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a hair cap of open work fabric including a crown portion and tapering side pieces for disposition against the sides of the face, the
- the lower rear corner portions of the crown for securing the hair can on the head and simulta- 45 'neously tensioning the elastic chin strap.
7. A device of the class described comprising in combination, a hair cap of open work fabric including a crown portion and tapering side pieces for disposition against the sides of the 50 nected at its ends to the respective lower ends of 55 the side pieces, and being of substantially the same width as the width of the lower end portions of the side pieces,- tie-ribbons connected at one end to the lower rear corner portions of the crown for securing the hair cap on the head and 0 simultaneously tensioning the-elastic chin strap,
and a looped strap "connected to the top of the open rear portion of the crown, through which the free end of one ribbon is drawn before it is tied to the free end portion of the other ribbon. c5
