2 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in means associated with bottles and jars, especially those, which are used for medicinal purposes.
At the same time, this invention will serve as an excellent advertising medium, especially adaptable to certain lines of goods, for instance such as pertain to sick room supplies, and drugs.
It will, however, be evident that the said device may also conveniently be used as a desk article upon which suitable information may be displayed.
The device itself consists of a blank of suitable material, for instance, card-board, which is cut and bent into a shape or form, and constructed in a manner, as will be hereafter further described.
As the construction of my device is comparatively simple, the cost of manufacturing should be proportionately low.
With the above and other objects in View, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section on the line 22 of Figure 1; while Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the invention.
Figure 4 is a detail transverse sectional view through the top or cut-out portion and the elastic means surrounding the latter, in my invention.
Figure 5 is a side elevational view of a modification of the device; while Figure 6 shows a perspective view of a further modification of the same; and Figure '7 is a modified detail view.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, Ii] indicates a piece of suitable material, or blank, for instance, card-board, which is bent in a manner, as may conveniently be seen in Figure 2, that is with angular corners, l2 and I3, and the side-flaps, I 4 and i5, depending vertically. The top portion l 6 has in its center been formed with an opening I! suitable to receive therein the neck of a medicine bottle. In order, however to have said opening fit any size of bottle-neck a number of slits l9 are made in the top portion of the blank, radiating from the said central opening in a star-like manner, as may especially be seen in Figure 4.
As frequent removal of the device, or cover, from the bottle might cause the slitted parts to become too loose in the fitting of the bottle-neck, 5 an elastic section, or, if desired, rubber gasket 20, may be arranged across said slitted parts in close proximity to the very opening IT, as shown also in Figure 4.
Upon one of the sides of the bent card board 10 is arranged a thermometer 2!, either by having cut out in said side the shape of a thermometer, and having a small thermometer inserted therein; or by having the indications relative to a thermometer imprinted upon one side of the card board, and a small thermometer mounted upon said card board in position to register with said indications.
Upon the same side of this card board and upon the side which on top bears the indication Medicinal chart are arranged the features of a watch 22, accomplished by having the time indicating numerals printed upon the card board, and having the conventional two pointers tumably secured to the side of the board in any suitable manner.
This imitation-watch serves the important object of indicating the time, or hour, according to the adjustment of the pointers, when a patient should have his next dose of medicine.
Upon the same side of the card board, the features of a calendar, as shown at 23,- may be arranged; while upon the opposite card board-flap space may be arranged, as shown at 24, for the docto-rs orders. Thus, it would appear, plenty of space for advertising purposes is left upon this device.
In Figure 5 my invention has been shown in a slightly modified form to the extent that the card board has been reversely positioned relative to the bottle, and the two flap members M and I5 secured together at their top, for instance, by means of a clip, or snap-fastener, or in any other suitable manner.
In Figure 6 a somewhat similar arrangement 4 of the card board members has been accomplished, whereby the said device is given a triangular shape, especially suitable for placement on a desk.
The features associated with the card board members, as formerly described, may be relatively retained in the modifications, leaving a great surplus of space for advertising purposes.
In Figure '7 is shown a modification, as to the watch arrangement, or time-indicating means in order to leave more space for advertising.
In said view 25 indicates an oblong slit upon each side of which the numerals from 1 to 12 are marked under the top-indications of A. M. and P. M. A pointer 26 attached to a pivot, or pin 21 is adapted to be moved up and down in said slit, and to be swung around to indicate the time to be denoted, whether in the A. M. or P. M. column of numerals. The pin is normally held in a selected position in the slit by the friction exerted by the edges forming said slit, as said pin is moved up and down in the slit by means of a push exerted by the fingers.
It is evident that a pointer may, if desired according to the relative arrangement, be attached to both ends of the pivot, that is, upon each side of the card board.
It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore wish to limit myself specifically to the exact construction and arrangement shown and described herein.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:
1. A card board member formed with a. substantially fiat horizontal top portion and two substantially vertically depending side flaps, the top portion being made with an opening at its center and having a number of slits formed therein in a star-like manner and emanating from said opening, said top portion having an annular, elastic, reenforcing member in close proximity to said opening.
2. A card board member formed with a substantially fiat horizontal top portion and two substantially vertically depending side flaps, said top portion being made into sections by a. number of slits formed therein and adapted to engage the neck of a bottle and an elastic re-enforcing member near the extreme ends of said sections, whereby to insure a snug engagement of the latter with a bottle neck, substantially as shown and described.
