This invention relates to a sectional door construction.
The chief object of this invention is to provide sectional doors with certain improvements, whereby said doors are commercially more acceptable than those heretofore utilized.
While the invention is disclosed herein as applied to folding sectional doors, certain features thereof. apply equally as well to sliding sectional doors and unless otherwise specified in the claims, the terminology sectional door is intended to cover both the sliding and the folding types.
One feature of the invention consists in the sealing means interposed between the side jamb and the door section.
A second feature of the invention consists in the sealing means interposed between the top jamb and the top door section.
A third feature of the invention consists in the nested handle applied to folding sectional doors, wherein the handle is nestable between adjacent door sections when folded and the gripping portion is sufliciently remote from the supporting door section when unfolded, so that the hand of the operator may conveniently be interposed between the door section and the gripping portion.
Another feature of the invention consists in the combination bolt and lock employed for securing the sectional door in closed position and it furthermore is arranged for manual operation from either side of the bolt supporting member (usually the door section) when the lock is unlocked or moved to bolt releasing position.

In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings., I0 indicates a side jamb, I I, I2, I3 and I4 indicate respectively four superposed, and in the present form of the invention, hingedly connected door sections. Mounted on the side jamb is a sealing strip I5 which is hingedly supported thereby as at I6. If the hinge means I6 is not of a spring constrained type, an additional spring means I1 is anchored as at I8 at one end to the door jamb and at I9 to the sealing strip I5. The sealing strip I5 is reduced as shown clearly at Fig. 2. Supported by the section I2 is a laterally projecting strap 20 with a forwardly directed arm 2 I Said forwardly directed arm 2I is adapted to engage the inclined surface 22 of a cam secured as at 23 to the sealing strip.
In the lowering movement of the door and just prior to the movement of the section into final door closing position, the arm 2I engages the cam 22 and tilts the sealing strip I5 in opposition to its constraint, whether the same be included in the hinges I6 or imposed by means of spring Il.

In Figs. 3 and 4, a modified form of the invention is illustrated. In this form of the invention similar parts are indicated by numerals of the one hundred series. The side jamb HU is operatively associated in the same manner with the door sections H2, H3 and ||4 as heretofore. Asealing means consists of a plurality of strips I |5a and |55. These are hingedly connected together as at ||5c. Door section H2 supports the strap |20 having the actuating arm |2| which engages the cam |22 anchored at |23 for straightening out or causing the plurality of hingedly connected sealing strip sections to move into alignment and in so moving into alignment, said strip sections move into engagement with the ends of the door sections, as shown in Fig. 4. The strip sections are pvotally supported on the j amb and in a sense hingedly supported thereby as at 6a and the free end thereof and herein the upper end is slidably supported in a socket H617. When the door sections move to nal closing position, the arm |2| engages the cam |22 and aligns all the sealing sections and in such alignment the` ends of the door sections are sealed to the side jamb.
In Fig. 5 there is illustrated one form of top seal construction. Herein the tcp jamb is .indicated by the numeral 23|) and the top section by the numeral 2|4. The top lsection may support -a roller, guide or shoe 23| which moves upwardly in the slot or track 232 which, in the present form of the invention, is shown provided with a forwardly directed end 233. The aforesaid construction is clearly illustrated in the copending application of Charles F. Rutledge, filed November 28, 1930, and bearing Serial No. 498,698, now Patent No. 1,962,913, June l2, 1934, and is also disclosed in the co-.pending application of Gill, -et al., Serial No. 614,894, filed June 2, `1932 -by the aforesaidran'd others, now Patent No. 2,020,544, Nov. 12, 1935.
The top of the top door section upon its for- Ward face includes a sealing strip 234. Supported by the top jamb is .arearwardly directed angle -iron sealing strip 235, the rearwardly directed ange thereof lying in a plane below the sealing strip 234. When the door arrives at its nal closed position, sealing strip 234 engages the rearwardly directed flange or sealing member 235 and seals the top of the door to the top lamb.
In Fig. 6 a modied form of the invention is illustrated in Which numerals of the two Vhundred series are employed. The operation is substantially `the same.
In Figs. 7 and f8 there is illustrated thehandle mounting and in -this form of the invention, the door lis of the folding sectional type. The door sections are indicated by numerals of the four hundred series. Thus, -4'|^| 'indicates the lowest section, 4=|2 the second lower section, 4|3 vthe second upper section and 4|.4 the top section. These are hingedly connected together as shown as vat 4|.
'Suitably secured to the top rail 4'|2a of fthe second Isection 4|2 having the panel 4125, is a U-shaped handle having flat ifi-'ee ends 446 se,- cured as at 44| to the rail 412. The handle adjacent the panel has a channel formation as 'indicated as at 442 and the intermediate portion between the two arms 442 is arranged in semicircular section 'and semi-cylindrical formation as at'443. As shown clearly in Fig. 8, 'thishandle portion "terminates adjacent 'the panel 4||`b 0f door section 4H, the bottom rail 4H@ thereof lying substantially in abutting relation to the portion 440 of the handle. Usually two handles in horizontal alignment are employed.
In Figs. 9 to 11 inclusive, there is illustrated a form of locking device and in said gures, 5H] indicates a side jamb member, 5H a door section member. A U-shaped bracket 556 is secured to the door member 5H and slidably supported in the ears 55| thereof is a bolt 552 Which is receivable by the socket 553 carried by the side jamb adjacent the opening and is secured to said side jamb as at 554. A spring 555 is connected as at 556 to the bolt 552 at one end and its opposite end is connected as at 55T to the remote ear 55|. A rock shaft 558 extends through the door memberand upon the front end of said shaft is secured an arm 559 terminating in a finger piec'e 566. The inner end of the shaft 558 supports a link 56| that is pivotally connected to another link 562 at 563. The other end of the link 562 is pivotally connected as at 564 to the free or rear end of the bolt 552. The pivotal connection '563 also supports a nger piece 565 on the inside of the door. Thus, the bolt may be manually reciprocated by either the finger piece 566- from outside the door or by the finger piece 565 from Within `the door.
The arm 56| includes a recess 566 and a pin or equivalent member 567 is carried by a lock 568 and said pin normally seats `in the aperture 566 when the lock is in locked position. W'hen the lock is in unlocked position, the pin V56`| is retracted and then the `door may be opened from either the inside or the outside by respectively actuating the inside or outside finger pieces. The pin 561 may be of the type that is normally projected into locking relation and when thus projected, the bolt can only be withdrawnV from the inside of the door `by depressing the pin 561 in opposition to -its usual constraint and at the same time moving the bolt mechanism so that the arm 56| is moved .sufliciently for non-registration of the Yrecess 566 vand the pin v561.
The arm 56| includes a lateral enlargement 569 which prevents the rpin from ,projecting outwardly into locking position when the arm` 56| has ,been moved into the bolt Withdrawal `position, so that the lock will not prevent the .manual return of the bolt when desired and thus this arrangement doesnot require unlocking of the lock for the seating of the bolt in its socket.
In Figs. 1,2 to 14 inclusive, there is illustrated a slightly different and modified ,form of the aforesaid. locking and bolt construction, and numerals of the six hundred series are employed vfor like or similar parts. Y

to the lever arm 661 and the other end anchored as at 55S to the link 662; thus constraining the two members toward each other which constrains the locking bolt toward locking position, and in this respect, this form of the invention dilers from the form shown in Figs. 9 to 11 inclusive.
If desired, the pivotal connection 663 may support a ngerpiece 665 upon the inside of the door. Mounted in the door and projecting therethrough, is a lock cylinder 668 which has a pin 651 which registers with an opening formed in the supporting plate 656 and in this respect is similar to the form of the invention shown in Figs. 9 to 11 inclusive. The bolt also is adapted to register with a recess 666 in the lever arm 66|. The lever arm 66| carries a U-shaped bracket 619 having a pair of aligned openings 611 therein which are in alignment with opening 666.
The aforesaid serves as a support for a releasing member 612 having the finger engageable portion 613. The purpose of this portion is to press toward the lock the outwardly constrained pin 651 and when thus depressed, the lever may be manually moved through the nger piece 665, since the lever is released from the pin lock. When the bolt is to be actuated from above the door, the lock is actuated to retract the pin 661 and then the finger piece 660 is actuated to withdraw locking bolt 652 into retracted position.
In Figs. 15 to 18, inclusive, is illustrated a modified form of the invention. As shown in Figs. and 6, the guide or trackway has a forwardly directed cuvature or socket and the upper roller 13| in its upward movement also moves forwardly toward the jamb 11D. The door sections 1l l, 1|2, 113 and 1M are connected together as aforesaid. 'Ihe side jamb supports a rail 11S supporting a plurality of plate guides 11|. Rail 116 has one edge 112 inclined upwardly and away from the door opening. Another rail 113 is positioned adjacent the door opening and may have its remote edge 114 directed upwardly-and toward the door opening if desired but it is herein shown parallel thereto. A sealing member 115 has complementary opposite sides for wedging association when the door is fully closed. It also supports an angle iron 115e that seats in groove 116 in the ends of the door sections.
A U-shaped strap 111 of relatively elongated formation, see Fig. 18, straddles the pintle 118 supporting upper guide wheel 131. Strap 111 is carried by sealing member 115 so that as the wheel and door move, the sealing member moves vertically therewith and laterally along the pintle 118 as the sealing member moves laterally into engagement with rail 113 and away from the same. When sealing, the iron 115a also engages the side edges of the ends of the door sections.
The invention claimed is:-
l. In a sectional door, the combination of a plurality of hingedly and horizontally connected foldable door sections arranged to fold overhead or door opening and for movement downwardly for door closing, a side jamb, a stationary guide track adjacent thereto, guide means on the door movable therein, a sealing means supported by the jamb and constrained toward non-sealing position, a member on the door and movable therewith, and means on the sealing means engageable by the member indoor closing movement substantially when nally closing for causing said sealing means to seal the door to the jamb.
2. In a sectional door, the combination of a plurality of hingedly and horizontally connected oldable door sections arranged to fold overhead for door opening and for movement downwardly for door closing, a Side jamb, a stationary guide track adjacent thereto, guide means on the door movable therein, a sealing means supported by the jamb, a member on the door and movable therewith, means on the sealing means engageable by the member in door closing movement substantially when finally closing for causing said sealing means toseal the door to the jamb, and means hingedly mounting the sealing means on the door jamb, the member tilting the sealing means into door section end engagement.
3. In a sectional door, the combination of a plurality of hingedly and horizontally connected foldable door sections arranged to fold overhead for door opening and for movement downwardly for door closing, a side jamb, a stationary guide track adjacent thereto, guide means on the door movable therein, a sealing means supported by the jamb, a member on the door and movable therewith, and means on the sealing means engageable by the member in door closing movement substantially when finally closing for causing said sealing means to seal the door to the jamb, said sealing means comprising a plurality of hingedly connected strips arranged upon actuation by the member to assume an aligned and sealing position.
4. In a sectional door in which the upper edge of the upper door section moves upwardly and forwardly, the combination of a top jamb, a sealing member 'carried thereby and extending toward the door, and another and cooperating sealing member carried by the upper door section and movable upwardly therewith in door opening and positioned above the rst mentioned member and extending toward the jamb.
5. In a sectional door in which the upper edge of the upper door section moves upwardly, the combination of a top jamb, a sealing member carried thereby and extending toward the door, and
another and cooperating sealing member carriedI by the upper door section and movable upwardly therewith in door opening and positioned above the first mentioned member and extending toward the jamb.
6. In a sectional door, the combination of a plurality of hingedly and horizontally connected foldable door sections arranged to fold overhead for door opening and for movement downwardly for door closing, a side jamb, a stationary guide track adjacent thereto, guide means o-n the door movable therein, sealing means guided by the jamb, and a member on the door operatively asso'ciated with the sealing means for moving the same into and out of sealing position in the door closing and opening movement, said sealing means including a wedge member vertically movable by the door.
