As the group is fed forwardly, because of the action of the presser roller and the feeding disc, the upper strip 49 passes out of the casing above the lid 1, while the other strips 50 pass into the otherend of the casing, into a stack 5|. In passing into this stack the strips 50 are guided by means of a loop 52. The strip 49 passes through a slot 53 provided therefor in thelid 2 adjacent the part 5a. r 7
'At one side of the casing is a carbon paper container 54, which has thereon a lid 55. The parts of the presser roller adjacent the feed discs are knurled, as indicated by the numeral 56. For the purpose of causing the presser roller to rotate I gripped and aligned and held in tense and tight condition; :Figure 2 shows the condition of the operating parts during theperiod of writing and at the beginning and at the end of each operation.
As-soon as the handle is operated to advance the strips the lip 42 is broughtout of engagement with the head 2| of the bolt l9 so that the align- 39 contacts with the arm 40 so that the lip 42 is brought into contact with the head 2| of the bolt I9, thereby forcing the aligning plate to substantially cover the slot I4 and grip the paper between the aligning plate and the table, at the 'part of the'slot adjacent the pivots I2. 'I'hisoperation of the aligning plate causes the strips of paper to be aligned, and after the strips are aligned the feeding'discs again engage the strips so the strips of paper are tightened, and crimps as come within the, scope invention. a r

In this form of autographic register strips of varying widths may be used by replacing the cover by another cover having a writing opening therein of less or greater width. For accommodating strips of paper of various widths'the collars 48a may be adjusted along the rod,48.

In an autographic register, a casing, a table in the casing, said table having a slot through whicha group of superimposed creased strips of paper pass onto the table, a fiat plate adapted to slide on the underside of said table across the slot and cooperatewith thetable at one side of the slot to engage the stripsin the creases between an upper edge of said plate and the lower edge'of said slotand align them, rotating members sup-' ported by the casing, means on the rotating members to grip and move the strips across the table during the first partrof a rotation thereof and to release the strips during the second part of said named means coming into operation at the end of the second part of the rotation, said last-named 7 condition means comprising an arm pivoted at one end and a cam member operating on the other end of the arm. 5

In an autographic register having a fla paper table with a transverse paper guiding slot therein, the combination with a casing and paperfeeding mechanism comprising a pair of rotatable cylindrical devices mounted on a transverse shaft, of paper-aligning devices comprising a pivoted arm actuated by a cam-mounted onsaidshaft, and an aligning device comprising-a planar plate slidably engaging the under surface of the table spring-actuated in one direction and by said arm in the other direction to wedgethe paper sheets between the upper forward edge of said plate and the lower edge of said slot to alignthem by partially closing said slot; said feeding mechanism having a portion of its periphery cut away, so
that the feeding is suspended and the sheets of paper released when the aligning device is acting on the paper. c
