11 ciaims. (ci. 15s-11i This invention relates to Venetian blinds, particularly to Venetian blind constructions for use in connection with steel sash windows. In ordinary steel sash window construction, the windows swing outwardly and the screens for use in the summer time are placed inside the window. In such a construction, it is desirable to have a Venetian blind that can be easily removed to permit removal of the screens for washing the inside of the windows or the like or toy permit access to the windows for any other reason. It is essential that the bracket which supports the Venetian blind be of a nature that will not interfere with the removal of the screen.
The objects of the present invention are:
First, to provide a Venetian blind construction in which the blind may be removed as a unit and in which the brackets may be partially removed to pennit access to the screen for removal.
Second, to provide a bracket and support for a Venetian blind to be used in easement window construction, which support is easily installed on a steel sash window`construction and which is adjustable to permit proper positioning of the blind.
Third, to produce a means for supporting a Venetian blind that is easily and quickly manipulated to release the blind for removal, but which holds the blind firmly and which is not objectionable in appearance and appears to be merely a continuation of the header of the blind.
Fourth, to produce a supporting means for a Venetian blind, which holds theblind firmly but is easily removed, and which makes possible liberal allowances for errors in measuring of windows preparatory to installing Venetian blinds.
Further objects and advantages pertaining to detail and economies of construction and operation will appear from the description to follow.
A preferred embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:

InJ the drawing, -I is the steel frame of a steel easement window of ordinary construction which has outwardly swinging windows 2 with hinges 3. The window is shown installed in a well I as is usual practice with such windows.

The bracket 5 is provided with parallel horizontal ridges 9 struck up in the metal. These ridges are apertured as at I for the passage of bolts I I which are provided with nuts I2 as illustrated in Fig. 3.
I3 is a sliding member adapted to be fastened to the bracket 5. The sliding member I3 is formed of sheet metal and has struck up portions I4 forming registering slide ways to register with the struck up ridges 9.
The struck up portions I4 are slotted as at I5 for the passage of the bolts II to permit the clamping of the sliding member I3 to the bracket and to permit adjustment to or Kaway from the window.
*'The outer end IB of the sliding member is offset as shown in Fig. 2 to provide clearance. Located centrally ofthe offset portion I6 is a keyhole slot I1 having its narow end I8 extending inwardly toward the window in a horizontal direction. At the front edge ofthe portion I6 is formed an upwardly facing hook I9 substantially on a level with the portion I8 of the keyhole slot I1'.
20 is a sheet metal socket member comprising -a bottom or bearing plate 2| and having a rear flange 22 serving as a stop, a bottom ange 23 serving as a support for a header ba1', and a top ilange 24 serving to form the top of an open front socket member into which a header bar 25 may be slid.
Extending from the rear of the bearing plate 2i are headed studs 26 and 21 spaced from one another and in' such relation that when the headed stud 26 is inserted in the keyhole slot I1 and moved to the rear thereof the headed stud 21 engages in the hook I9 on the front of the sliding member I3.
The header bar in the particular construction shown is preferably formed of sheet metal to produce a channel. The sheet metal is of such gauge that the metal may be slightly flexed and the bar is of a size to ilt in the socket member 20, with the open side upwardly, as shown 'in Fig. 4.
To hold the channel header bar 25 in position, I provide a member 28. This locking member 28 consists of a metal plate 29 which is adapted to engage the exposed surface of the channeled header 25 to hold it in the socket20. Extending from this plate on one side thereof is a hook 3D having its point facing toward the plate 29. The hook extends rearwardly of the plate 29 sufflciently to engage a headed stud 3| extending from the bearing plate 2| of the socket 20.
When the plate 29 is lying against the front of the channeled header 25, the point of the hook extends towards the plate 29 a suillcient length to hold the locking member 28 in position, but the point of the hook is of such length that pressure exerted on the plate 29 will ex the channel header 25 inwardly suiciently to permit the locking element 28 to be removed by sliding it vertically along the front of the header bar 25, permitting the point 32 of the hook 3|] to clear the headed stud 3|.
In order to facilitate sliding the locking member 28, I provide a raised portion 33 thereon and proide one end of the plate 29 be turned up as at In installing Venetian blinds, many times the measurements are made. incorrectly and it is desirable to have the sockets 20 of such size that .if a short header bar is inserted it will be properly supported. To this end I provide that the flanges 22, 23, and 24 be of suilicient length to satisfactorily support a short header bar, and I provide that the front plate 29 lof the locking element 28 be of such Width that it will ll in any gap left between the ends of the header bar and the bearing plates 2| of the sockets 20.
The bearing plate 29 is of a length substantially the same as the height of the channel 25, so that even if the header bar 25 isconsiderably shorter than would t the opening, no unsightly gaps are left exposed.
The provision of this particular locking element makes the removal of the header bar a simple matter and presents at all times a neat appearance.
In Fig. 5, I have shown a screen 35 installed on the inside of the window 2 The bracket 5 extends beyond 'the screen and the sliding member I3 which, as illustrated in Fig. 1, positions the header bar of the Venetian blind inside of the screen.
If it is desired to have access to the screen, it is a simple matter to remove the locking member 28, remove the Venetian blind by removing the i header bar 25, and then remove the socket 2B, leaving a clear space for the opening or removal of the screen.
In the drawing, I have not illustrated a Venetian blind, but have illustrated only the header bar 25. It will be appreciated that the Venetian blind is of the usual slat construction hanging from the header bar 25 and so arranged that the blind is a complete unit. The details of the blind are unimportant in so far as this invention is concernedand have not been illustrated in detail.
I have shown a. preferred embodiment of my invention and wish to claim the sam'specicaliy and also broadly as pointed out in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a Venetian blind construction for use o'n sash windows to permit easy removal of the blind for access to screens or the like on the inside of the windows including a header bar comprising a sheet metal channel having its open side upwardly facing and formed .of metal of a. gauge to permit flexing ofthe sides of the channel inwardly, a bracket, a sliding member thereon, means to fasten said sliding member on said bracket, an offset portion on said sliding member, said offset portion having a keyhole slot, the narrow portion of said slot extending rearwardly and said offset portion having an upwardly facing hook at the forward end thereof, a header engaging socket member having an open front to slidably receive one end of said header, comprising a sheet met-al bearing plate having a bottom flange forming a horizontal seat for saidv header and a rear flange forming a -stop therefor, a pair of headed studs extending from the back of said bearing plate and spaced from one another, one stud being positioned to be inserted in said rearwardly facing keyhole slot and to be moved rearwardly thereof and the other headed stud being so positioned that when said first mentioned stud is at the rear of said keyhole slot said second stud engages in the hook on the front edge of said sliding member, said bearing plate having a third headed stud extending from the front side thereof, and a locking element comprising a metal plate for engaging the front of the header and having extended from one sidev thereof a hook having its point faced toward said locking plate, said hook being of a length to engage said headed stud on the front of said bearing plate between its head and said bearing plate when the header is in position on said horizontal seat and against said stop and when the plate of said locking element is against the front face of the header, the point of the hook being of such length that a flexing of the side of the header bar will permit the hook to be disengaged by a sliding of the plate vertically along the end of the header.
2. In a Venetian blind construction including a header bar comprising a sheet metal channel having its open side upwardly facing and formed of metal of a gauge to permit flexing of the sides of the channel inwardly, an open front socket member to slidably receive one end of said header, comprising a sheetI metal bearing plate having a bottom flange forming a horizontal seat for said header and a rear flange forming a stop therefor, a headed stud extending from said bearing plate, and a locking element comprising a metal locking plate for engaging the front oi the header and having extended from one side thereof a hook having its point facing toward the plate, said hook being of a length to engage said headed stud between its head and said socket when the header is in position on said horizontal seat and against said stop and when the plate of said locking element is against the front face of the header, the point of the hook being of such length that a flexing of the side of the header bar will permit the hook to be disengaged by a sliding of the plate vertically along the end of the header.
4. In a Venetian blind construction including a header bar comprising a sheet metal channel having its open side upwardly facing and formed of metal of a gauge to permit flexing of the sides of the channel inwardly, an open front socket member to slidably receive one end of said header and having a horizontal seat lfor said header and a rear stop therefor, a headed stud extending from saidsocket member, and a locking element comprising a metal locking plate for engaging the front of the header and having extended from one side thereof a hook having its point facing toward the plate, said hook being of a length to engage said headed stud between its head and said socket when the header is lin position on said horizontal seat and against said stop and when the plate of said locking element is against the front face of the header, the point of the hook being of such length that a exing of the side of the header bar will permit the hook to be disengaged by a sliding of the plate vertically along the end of the header.

In a Venetian blind construction for use on sash windows to permit easy removal of the blind for access to screens or the like on the inside vof the windows including a header, a bracket, a sliding member, means to fasten said sliding member on said bracket, an oiset portion on said sliding member', said oit'set portion having a keyhole slot with its narrow portion extending rearwardly and having an upwardly facing hook at the forward end thereof, a header engaging socket member comprising a bearing plate having upturned anges, and a pair of headed studs extending from the rear of said bearing plate and spaced from one another, one stud being positioned to be inserted in said rearwardly facing keyhole slot and to be moved rearwardly thereof and the other headed stud being so positioned that when said first mentioned stud is at the rear of said keyhole slot said second stud engages in the hook on the front edge of said sliding member.v
8. In a Venetian blind construction for use on sash windows to permit easy removal of the blind for access to screens or the like on the inside of the windows, including a header, a bracket, a
vsliding member, means to fasten said sliding member on said bracket, an odset portion on said sliding member, said offset portion having a keyhole slot with its narrow portion extending rearwardly and having an upwardly facing hook at headed stud being so positioned that when said rst mentioned stud is at the rear of said keyhole slot said second stud engages in the hook on the front edge of said sliding member.
9. .In a Venetian blind construction for use on sash windows to permit easy removal of the blind for access to screens or the like on the inside of the windows, including a header, a bracket, a sliding member, means to fasten said sliding member on said bracket, a header engaging socket member, and means for detachably fastening said socket member to said sliding member.

In a Venetian blind construction for use on windows to permit easy removal of the blind for access to screens or the like on the inside of the windows including a header, a bracket, a keyhole slot in said bracket with its narrow portion extending rearwardly and having an upwardly facing hook at the forward end thereof, a header engaging socket member comprising a bearing plate having upturned flanges, and a pair of headed studs extending from the back of said bearing plate and spaced from one another, one stud being positioned to be inserted in said rearwardly facing keyhole slot and to be moved rearwardly thereof and the other headed stud being so positioned that when said rst mentioned stud is at the rear of said keyhole slot said second stud engages in the hook on the front edge of said` sliding member.

In a Venetian blind construction for use on windows to permit easy removal of the blind for access to screens or the like on the inside of the windows including a header, a bracket, a keyhole slot in said bracket with its narrow portion extending rearwardly and having an upwardly facing hook at the forward end thereof, a header engaging socket member, and a pair of .headed studs extending from the back of the socket and spaced from one another, one stud being positioned to be inserted in said rearwardly facing I keyhole slot and to be moved rearwardly thereof and the other headed stud being so positioned that when said first mentioned stud is at the rear of said keyhole slot said second stud engages in the hook on the front edge of said sliding member.
