Description

April 2s, 1936. J. GIORDANO 2,038,729
DISPENSING AND REFRIGERATING APPARATUS f Filed March 2, 1935 Patented Apr. 28, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT oFFlcE DISPENSING AND REFRIGERATING APPARATUS 4 Claims.
This invention is an improved dispensing and refrigerating apparatus.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved apparatus in which a number of different beverages or other liquid materials may be stored and cooled and from which they may be selectively dispensed as required.
In the invention herein disclosed, a set of separate vessels are secured detachably to a base section and a top section cooperates with the base section to hold the vessels in assembled relation. Furthermore, the top section also forms means to promote the filling of the vessels Without disassembling the apparatus and it also controls the discharging of the contents of the several vessels.
The invention is disclosed on the drawing in which Fig. 1 is a vertical sectional view through the device;
Figs. 2 to 6 are sectional views taken on the lines 2 2, 3 3, 4 4, 5 5 and 6 6 of Fig. 1; and
Figs. 7 to 10 show details of the invention.
The spindle which extends through the center of a nozzle 2 and piston or plug valve 3, is screw threaded into a rotary disk 4 and terminates in a tapered end seated in a stationary disk 5 independent containers 6 are so formed and arranged, as shown in Fig. 6, as to provide a central space in which an element 1 may be positioned.
Disk 5 together with a valve body 8 forms the hollow top section of the composite receptacle and the nozzle 2 is screw threaded to said valve body. A spindle bushing 9 is adjustably screwed to the lower end of nozzle 2 and a rotating means or manipulative means on spindle turns the same and the disk 4 to the desired positions while a spider I2 may be employed to aid in centering the plug or piston valve 3 in the nozzle 2.
A anged ring I3 is carried by the disk 5 and engages an outwardly extending iiange on each of the vessels 6. The vessels are also secured by a second ange ring I3 to a base section I4, which has a central opening |5 through which element I may be passed in inserting said element into or removing it from the space dened by the walls of vessels 6.
The valve body 8 is secured to disk 5 by screws I6 and is shaped to form a space within which disk 4 is rotatably mounted. A series of symmetrically disposed nipples I1 and a nipple I8 are tted in apertures in disk 5, said nipple I8 and said nipples |'I being located in line with the positions normally occupied, respectively, by element I and the vessels 6. The rotary disk 4 is (Cl. 22S-21) provided with an opening I9 positioned to register selectively with nipples II, while a second opening 20 in the said disk 4 may be moved into register with opening I8, if desired.
Nozzle 2 is provided with ports 2| which may be closed by the piston valve 3 when required. When said ports 2| are opened, and the disk 4 is moved to the proper position, the contents of the Vessels 6 or the element 'I may be selectively discharged by way of the appropriate nipples II, I8, and apertures I9, 20, and the space in valve body 8 and through the ports 2| and nozzle 2.
A rubber ring 22 forms a packing between ring I3 and disk 5, while a gate 25 may be swingingly secured to a closure for the opening in base I4 clamps 24 being provided to receive the ends of the gate when the closure is to be held in position to close said opening.
By means of a screw 23, a hand wheel provided with a collar 26 is screwed to spindle I, which passes through a rubber ring 2I in said collar. An indicator pin 28 projects from said wheel into position to cooperate with a scale on nozzle 2 to indicate the position of the openings in the disk ,4 with respect to the nipples. |1 and I8.
One or more arms 29 are secured by a member I to the piston valve 3 to manipulate the same. Screws 30 are passed through lugs on disk and base section I4 to hold the clamping rings I3 in position.
In the use of the device, any of the vessels 6 and. the element I, if said element be in the form of a hollow container, may belled through nozzle 2, the space in valve body 8 and the respective nipple II or I8 after the piston valve 3 is moved to uncover ports 2| and the opening I9 or the opening 20 is brought into register with the proper nipple carried by disk 5. The contents of members 6, I may also be dispersed selectively by inverting the device after the members 3 and 4 are properly manipulated. The element I may take the form of a cartridge or holder containing a suitable refrigerant or may even be the evaporator element of a refrigerator, such element projecting through the opening normally closed by gate I5. However, the element I may, as above described, take the form of a container, whose contents may be discharged through nipple 8, when the opening I9 is alined with the latter.
I claim as my invention:-
1. An apparatus comprising a base section at one end of the apparatus and having a central opening therein; a hollow top section at the opposite end of the apparatus and a set of individual units removably arranged between said sections; said set comprising a central refriger- Vating unit, and a plurality of containerunits arranged to define a space receiving said refrigerating unit, and said top section comprising V`a stationary disk provided with nipples arranged -said space, a piston valve movable to open or 1li close said ports, an operating spindle connected `to said rotary disk and projectingl through and beyond the end of said nozzle and means at the end of Vsaid spindle for rotating the same.
2. An apparatus of the type defined in claim 1, in which the end of said nozzle carries graduations and the spindle rotating means carries a pointer arranged to cooperate with said grad-V uations to indicate the position ofV the, openings in the rotary disk. Y Y
Y 3. An apparatus of the type defined in claim 1, in which the refrigerating unit is removable through the vopening in the base section Yand gate means provided with a latch are arranged to close said opening and support said unit.
' 4. An apparatus of the type dened inclaim l, in Which'anged retaining rings are detachably secured to the top and base sections and engage the extremities of the container units to hold the saine in assembled position.
