Description
. Mammalia 3119 W36.. B. A. BRANCH BIN Filed July 2, 1955 Patented Mar. 31, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in bins and has for one of its important objects to provide, in a manner as hereinafterset forth, a device of this character embodying a novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts through the medium of which material may be placed therein and removed therefrom in a convenient manner and with a minimum of labor.
Another Very important object of the invention is to providejin a bin of the aforementioned character, a supporting structure which, when disassembled o'i" knocked down for shipment, will require a minimum of space.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a bin of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, highly efcient and reliable in use, compact, light in weight arid which may be manufactured at low cost.
All of the'rforegolng and still further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from a study of the following speciflcation, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein like characters of reference deslgnate corresponding parts throughout the several views, and wherein:-
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a bin constructed in accordance with the present invention, portions of the supporting structure being broken away in section.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 3 is a sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 isa horizontal sectional view through a corner portion of the supporting structure.
Referring'r now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a supporting structurewhich is designated generally by the reference numeral I. The supporting structure I includes afpair of substantially U-shaped members 2 of angle iron which provide legs 3. The
. members 2 are rigidly secured in spaced relation through thejmedium of removable frames 4 of angle iron. K- Extending between the legs 3 provided by each of the members 2 are strap iron braces 5.
Projectinginwardly from the upper portions of the members 2 are pins 5. The reference numeral I designates a container of suitable material, preferably metal, which, as illustrated to advantage Figures 1 and 3 of the drawing, has rigidly secured therein and depending therefrom bearings 8 which are journaled on the pins 6. It will be obseried that the bearings 8 are secured at an intermediate point to the container 1. It will thus be seen that the container 'I is rockably (Cl. B21-146) mounted on the supporting structure I and it may be Well to here state that said container is adapted to rest on either of the frames 4, as illustrated in full and dotted lines in Figure 1 of the drawing.
Projecting from one end of the container I is a discharge spout 9 having hingedly mounted on its discharge end a gravity opened and closed door IIl. Pivotally mounted on top of the container I is a closure II which is provided with a handle I2. A handle I3 is provided on the other end of the container 'I to facilitate manipulating said container.
It is thought that the manner of using the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. To iill the container 1, said container is positioned as shown in full lines in Figure 1 of the drawing, after which the material may be conveniently placed therein by simply opening the closure II.; When in this position, the door I0 is closed by gravity. To dispense the material from the container, it is only necessary to rock said containerto the position indicated in dotted lines in Figure 1 of the drawing, thus permitting the material to flow by gravity therefrom. Of course, when the container 'I is in discharging position with the spout lowermost, the door I0 readly swings to open position. It will be observed that the construction and arrangement is such that the container l may be expeditiously placed onthe supporting structure I or removed therefrom when desired. By removing the frames 4 the supporting structure I will require a minimum space, as when in shipment.
It is believed that the many advantages of a bin constructed in accordance with the present invention will be readily understood, and although a preferred embodiment of the device is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to which will fall within .the scope of the invention as claimed. Y
What is claimed isz- A bin comprising a bottom, opposed side walls and an end wall, a spout projecting from one end of the bin, the bottom of said spout being in the plane of said bottom, a gravity opened and closed door hingedly mounted on the discharge end of the spout, a closure hingedly mounted on top of the bin, a handle mounted on the end wall, and bifurcated bearings fixed on the inner faces of the side walls and depending therefrom through said bottom for engagement on trunnions for rockably supporting the bin.
