This invention relates to improvements in garments and has particular reference to a combined shirt and suspenders. V

The principal object is to produce a garment which to all intents and purposes is a conventional garment such as a shirt, and to incorporate in the construction of the shirt, a suspension device which is concealed which is a part of the garment, and yet a device which will permit the securing of the trousers and the supporting of the same in a most eflicient manner.

A further object is to produce a device which will not interfere with the laundering of the garment.

Another object is to produce a device which is economical to manufacture and one which is so designed that it will not in any way cause undue strain upon the garment.

A still further object is to produce a device which is comfortable to wear and one which will not be unsightly in use.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

It is common practice to wear invisible suspenders, which are merely a separate pair of suspenders worn between the ordinary shirt and ordinary underwear. With some styles of underwear the suspenders rub upon the flesh, are uncomfortable and at best are unsanitary and also cause holes in the sides of the shirt where the buckle engages the customary suspender button of the trousers. Applicant, therefore, has designed a shirt wherein a suspender is formed as a part of the shirt, which suspenders have a loop extending through eyelets in the side of the shirt,

which loop may engage the suspender buttons of Q the trousers or hooks substituted therefor. Applicants suspender is preferably made of a light material, similar to the shirt goods and therefore a material which will easily launder when the shirt is washed and a material which will not interfere with the easy ironing of the shirt.

In the accompanying drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numerals 5 and 6 designate the two front portions of an ordinary shirt having the customary collar band I. At 8 and 9 I have shown openings through the shirt which form eyes through which the loops l I and I2 of the suspenders are threaded. The suspender consists of a light weight webbing l3 having its end portion extending along the front of the shirt and toward the sides thereof and provided with button holes I4 and I6. This webbing I3 is stitched to the shirt in such a manner that a portion thereof lies within the collar band 1 (see the portion A Figs. 1 and 6). The webbing is also stitched between the double cloth of the yoke as indicated in Fig. 6. The ends having the button holes l4 and I6 extend downwardly along the front of the shirt as shown at B in Fig. 2. Attached to the webbing [3 near its medial line are back straps l1 and I8. These back straps have button holes l9 and 2| formed in their ends so as to receive the knotted ends of the loops II and I2. The loop-s I l and I2 may be shortened or lengthened by simply forming a new knot which will not slip through the button holes and makes a most simple manner of adjusting the loops.

It is here pointed out that all of the strain is carried to the point A of the shirt and as this is the focal point from which the body movements start, it will be apparent that practically no strain will be placed upon the garment, other than that of supporting the trousers. In other words, the wearer will be free to move in any desired direction without feeling any pull upon his suspenders.

In Figs. 4 and 5 I have shown fragmentary portions of trousers at 22 to which a hook 23 is attached. This is merely a substitute for the ordinary suspender button commonly found on trousers.

It will thus be seen that I have produced a size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:-

1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a shirt, of suspenders secured thereto, said suspenders including a fabric strap secured to said shirt by having its central portion lying within the neckband of said shirt and having its end portion extending down the front of said shirt and towards the side thereof, and a pair of diverging back straps secured to said fabric strap at a point within the neckband and having its extremities extending downwardly and toward the sides of the shirt, and a pair of loops secured to the ends of said front portions and said back portions, said loops having their medial portion passing through eyes formed in the sides of said shirt.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a shirt, of suspenders secured thereto, said suspenders including a fabric strap secured to said shirt by having its central portion lying within the neckband of said shirt and having its end portion extending down the front of said shirt and towards the side thereof, and a pair of diverging back straps secured to said fabric strap at a point within the neckband and having its extremities extending downwardly and 5 said shirt, said loops being adjustably connected 10 to said front and back portions.

3. In a device of the character described, the combination with a shirt of suspenders secured thereto, said suspenders including a fabric strap secured to said shirt by having its central por- 15 tion lying within the neck band of said shirt and having its ends extending down the front of the shirt and toward the sides thereof, a pair of diverging-back straps secured to said fabric strap at a point within the neck band and having their 20 extremities extending downwardly toward the side of the shirt, and trouser engaging means connecting the ends of said straps.
