This invention relates to forms used in the manufacture of coated gloves, and especially to a form adapted to support a. fabric glove, which is dipped or otherwise coated with rubber.
An object is to produce a simple and inexpensive glove form for use in the manufacture of coated gloves, which enables the gloves to be readily and conveniently slipped or removed from the form after the coating operations have been completed.
Another object is to produce a glove form having the new and improved features of construction and arrangement hereinafter described, and, for purposes of illustration, an embodiment of the invention is shown on the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a glove form showing the thumb piece dotted in;
' Figure 2 is a vertical sectional elevation on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the thumb viewed from the underside; and
Figure 4 is a side elevation showing the form mounted in position to remove the coated glove therefrom.
Referring to the drawing, the reference numeral l0 designates a substantially rigid form, which is preferably of metal, such as aluminum, and having the general shape of a glove. The form is hollow and is provided with a plurality of perforations ll, an opening 12 being provided in the lower portion to permit evaporation of the liquids used in coating the glove. An opening I3 is also provided in one side of the glove form for this purpose.
Connected to the wrist portion of the glove form is a U-shaped handle or mounting M, which, as shown in Figure 4, may be placed over a hook l5 to permit a coated glove tobe slipped from the form. The handle or mounting portion I4 is also used in supporting the form during the coating operations.
Provided on opposite sides of the glove form in the region of the thumb, are longitudinally elongate slots l6, into which spaced lugs I! on a thumb piece l8 are adapted to extend. It will be understood that the thumb piece is disposed at one side or the other of the glove form, depending upon whether the glove is right or left hand. The thumb piece 18 is also of cast metal, such as alminum, and is open at its underside, as indicated at l9, as well as between the lug portions IT, as indicated at 20. It should be noted that the lug portions project outwardly from a substantially rectangular surface 2|, which is adapted to abut against the form H]. In this position the outer end of the thumb portion inclines upwardly and outwardly from the form In, as indicated in Figure 2, adequate space being afiorded between the underside of the thumb piece and the form to leave these portions exposed for coating.
The above described form is particularly useful in the coating of fabric work gloves with latex solutions, and in practice the thumb piece I8 is first inserted in the thumb of the glove and thereupon the glove is slipped over the form II), the spaced lugs l1 engaging in one or the other of the slots l6, which serve to position the thumb piece properly. After the coating has been accomplished the glove tends to adhere to the form, but to enable the same to be slipped therefrom a slight tilting and lifting movement to the thumb disengages the thumb piece 18 from the form, enabling the coated glove to be pulled off with the thumb piece I 8 still within the glove. Thereafter the thumb piece can readily be removed or will drop out ofthe glove. Figure 4 shows a work glove W on the form in position to be pulled off.
It is to be understood that numerous changes in details of construction, arrangement and operation may be effected without departing from the spirit of the invention, especially as defined in the appended claims.
, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A glove form of the character described comprising a hollow body having the general shape of a glove and provided with a longitudinalslot in the region of the thumb, and a separate thumb piece having a part extending into said slot, tiltable about an axis transverse to the slot, and removable with the glove when the latter is slipped from the form.
2. A glove form of the character described comprising a perforated hollow body having the general shape of a glove, and a separate thumb piece having spaced elements in sliding engagement with said body and mounting the thumb piece upon the body tiltably about an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of said thumb piece.
3. A glove form of the character described comprising a hollow body having the general shape of a glove and provided with a longitudinal slot on opposite sides in the region of the thumb, and a separate thumb piece having a part engageable in one slot or the other and mounting the thumb piece upon the body tiltably about an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of said thumb piece, said thumb piece being removable with the glove when the latter is slipped from the form.
4. A glove form of the character described comprising a hollow body having the general shape of a glove and provided with a longitudinal slot on opposite sides in the region of the thumb, and a separate thumb piece having spaced lugs adapted to enter either of the slots and a flat base adapted to contact the form on the sides of the slot into which the lugs project, said abutting area being arranged to normally support the thumb piece with its free end projecting at an angle to the form, whereby said thumb piece may be removed from the rest of the form by tilting it about an axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of the thumb piece.
