This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in looms and more particularly to loom filling runner elimination.
The principal object of the present invention is to relieve and entirely remove the nuisance of drawing into the cloth of the double and tangled threads of filling and so eliminate any expense entailed by this requirement of removing said threads from the cloth.
Another important object of the invention is to provide an eliminator of the character stated which is automatic in operation.
Other important objects of the invention will be found in the following specification.

Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen in Figure 1 that numeral 5 generally refers to a conventional loom which includes the usual harness frame 6, the shuttle box 1, the frame 8 and the usual color control lever 3 on the machine, Numeral ll] represents the loom filling runner eliminator, and as is clearly shown in Figure 1, a chain II or some other suitable elongated element extends from the color control lever 3 to the eliminator 10 for operating the latter, this chain ll extending under the idler pulley 12 as in the manner substantially shown in Figure 1. This chain is further disposed over the upper pulley I3 so that the upper portion of the chain I l is brought into substantial horizontal alignment with the cam shown in Figure 8.
The eliminator consists in the construction of a pair of L-shaped bracket members M to which are secured the strips l5l6 each of which is provided with a thinflange I'l. These flanges project toward each other, but terminate in close spaced relation to provide a slotway through which the cam flange l8 can project upwardly, this flange l8 extending upwardly from the base plate E9 of the cam and provided with an apertured ear 20 at one end to which the aforementioned chain II is attached. A stud 2| is provided at the underside of the base plate I9 adjacent the ear 2% and a spring 22 is connected at one end to the stud 2| and at its opposite end to the depending member 23 of the strip i5, so that the cam I8 is always maintained in a position retaining" the fingers 24, 25 and 26 in the uniform level position, shown in Figure 4. The cam has a high point 21 and a low point 23 connected by the inclined cam shoulder 29.
Numeral 30 represents a U-shaped frame secured to the bracket Hi, the upstanding end portion of this frame 30 having three shafts curved therethrough and denoted by numerals 31, 32 and 33 each of these shafts being associated with the cams so that the corresponding fingers carried thereby will be lifted as desired. The shaft 3| is provided with the large L-shaped arm 34, the shaft 32 is provided with the rider 35 and the shaft 33 with the substantially straight arm 36. Each of the shafts 3|, 32 and 33 is provided with a coiled spring 31 thereon interposed between one of the legs 30 and connected to the corresponding riders 34, 35 or 36 so that these riders are normally urged downwardly to engage the top edge of the cam I8.
Referring to Figure '7, it can be seen that numeral 38 represents the cloth being formed while the threads 39 are filler threads which the aforementioned fingers 24, 25 and 26 engage in the manner substantially shown in Figure '7.
The fingers do not grip the thread that they control but simply ride in their places and at the proper moment under the loose or slack threads, lifting them up as far as the slack will allow, and in this manner the fingers keep the threads out of the way of all other threads crossing it.
The eliminator is so incorporated and timed with the loom movement that its fingers rise regularly and at the proper moments and under the proper threads taking out all of its slackness and holding it taut and out of the way of all other threads until it is again driven across the warp. Just before being again sent across the warp the finger falls and releases any pressure on the threads, so that it successfully prevents any possibility of entanglement with other threads. As the controlling finger falls, the thread is carried by its shuttle over the fallen and relaxed finger, leaving an open passageway for the shuttle as though there were no eliminator present.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and. scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In combination with a movable part of a loom, a filling runner eliminator, said eliminator comprising a base, a plurality of shafts mounted on the base, each shaft being provided with an elongated thread engaging finger extending laterally therefrom, each of said shafts being provided with a laterally disposed cam rider, a slidable cam movably mounted on the base and Within the path of the said cam riders, said cam consisting of a slidable plate provided with an upstanding flange formed with a reduced portion defining a cam shoulder and a connection between the said slide cam and the movable part of the loom.
