GEORGE C. BOVEY, OF COLUMBUS, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO ABNER WOODWARD, OF SHELBURNE FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS.
IM PROVEM ENT IN WALL-PROTECTO RS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 203,241, dated May '7, 1878; application iiled March 16, 1878.
To all whom it may concern.:
Beit known `that I, GEORGE C. BovEY, of Columbus, Franklin county, Ohio, have iuvented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall-Protectors, of which the following is a specification:
This invention consists in certain peculiarities of construction which will be hereinafter more specically pointed out in the claim.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is aperspective view of my improved wall-protector, one of the swinging arms being removed from its socket or holder. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through said protector, showing a towel suspended from one of the swinging arms; and Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse section through a portion of the frame and its accessories.
A represents a light rectangular frame of any appropriate size, and B B are ring-eyes wherewith said frame is suspended from the wall. Securely applied to this frame is a canvas, C, upon which is mounted a sheet of ornamental paper, D, which is provided with a fanciful center-piece, E. This center-piece may be either a landscape, or a piece of still life,77 or any-other picture 5 or said center may consist simply of a motto of any kind. Furthermore, the margin of paper D may have a border applied to it. After the centerpiece and border have been mounted on sheet D the entire exposed surface of the` protector is-then coated with varnish, F, or any other preparation that will resistthe action of water. (See Fig. 3.) As soon as this varnish is dry one or more sockets or holders, G, are secured to the ame A, which sockets are adapted to receive the downwardly-projecting shanks H of the readily-detachable arms or brackets I, that are adapted to swing in ahorizontal plane. The outer ends of these arms are preferably provided with knobs or buttons J.
Secured tothe upper rail of frame A, and near its mid-length, is a hook or pin, K, that projects outwardly, said hook being designed for the reception of finger-rings, bracelets, necklaces, and other articles of wear that are generally removed from the person before washing.
The protector is secured to the wall in the usual manner, the arms I being swung around toward the hook K so as to be out of the way, and after the washing has been linished said arms can be swung out, and the towels, &c., can be hung upon them to dry.
The readily-detachable arms are very advantageous to my wall-protector, as either of them can be removed in a moment in case they are liable to come in contact with any article of furniture, or in event of the Wash-stand being placed in the corner of a room, where it is impossible to swing all of said arms.
I claim as my invention- An improved Wall-protector consisting of frame A, covering C D, sockets G, readily-de tachable swinging arms H I, and liked ringsupport K, as herein described and set forth.
In testimony of which invention I hereunto set my hand.
GEORGE C. BOVEY.
