Description

E. E. PERKINS PAPER ENVELOPE Feb. 25, 1936.
Filed Oct. 8, 1954 fizuefizi;
6. Per s.
Patented Feb. 25, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention consists in the combinations and' arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the application and in which:
Fig. 1 is a face view of a paper envelope embodying the invention;
Fig. 2, a section thereof taken substantially on line 22 of Fig. 1 but in which the relative thickness of the materials has been somewhat exaggerated for the sake of cleamess; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail view taken substantially on line 33 of Fig. 1.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in the drawing comprises a rectangular paper envelope III in any usual or desired form and provided on its front face with an ornamental design I I indicative of the contemplated contents of the envelope. The face of the envelope is covered with a transparent protective coating l2 of varnish extending around the edges of the envelope onto the back thereof as indicated.
The envelope is designed and intended for the distribution of a compound in the form of a powder for the making of a non-alcoholic beverage or drink. For commercial reasons it is desirable to ornament the face of the envelope with 5 a design indicative of the contents of the envelope. The protective coating of transparent varnish serves to protect and accentuate this ornamental design and, by extending the same around the folded edges of the envelope, these folds are 10 so reinforced and protected as to render them better able to retain the powdered contents for considerable periods of time.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred arrangement for carrying my invention into efl'ect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details disclosed, but would desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A paper envelope having its face ornament- 25 ed and coated with a flexible adhesive protective and transparent covering, 'said coating extending around onto the back of the envelope to reinforce the folds of the paper at the edges.
2. A paper envelope having its face ornament- 30 ed and coated with a flexible adhesive protective transparent covering of varnish, said coating extending around onto the back of the envelope to reinforcethe folds .of the paper at the edges.
EDWIN E. PERKINS.
