Rah 11L, ma
R. ROCH ET AL COMBINED BILLIAHD TABLE AND .KPANDING TABLE Filed Aug. 27 1934 Patented Feb. 11, 1936' UNITED STATES COMBINED BILLIARD TABLE AND EXPANDING TABLE Rudolf Koch and Hennry Roch,
Dresden, Germany Application August 27,
1934, Serial No. 741,599
In Germany August 28, 1938 5 Claims.
being entirely removed, the table can be used as a billiard table.
The table top consists of horizontally extensible sections between which removable leaves may be placed to increasethe size of the table surface.
The bed of the billiard table is built into the frame of the table proper, and the frame is finished ofi fiat all round on the top so that it forms the outer frame of the billiard table. Rails are let into the flat top of the frame lengthwise, and these rails each consist of two telescoping parts, one of which is fixed to the frame and the other to one of the tops of the table, at the same time reinforcing said top. The billiard table bed is sunk beneath the flat top of the outer frame between the side rails. The billiard table cushions are secured within the outer frame and rest on the billiard table bed. The bed of the billiard table provides a space in which the accessories of the game can be placed, such as cues, balls, etc. There may however be also provided a special drawer beneath the billiard table bed to receive these accessories. A combined expanding and billiard table is thus provided which can be produced very cheaply.
On the accompanying drawing showing by way of illustration an embodiment of the present invention:-
Figs. 1 and 2 are respectively a side and end view of the table.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the extended table with two extra leaves inserted.
Fig. 4 is a top plan view of the table when used as a billiard table.
Figs. 5 and 6 are detail sectional views of two different constructions drawn to a larger scale.
The expanding table may be of any suitable size. As shown it comprises legs I, longitudinal members 2a and transverse members 22], upon which is secured a fiat frame consisting of longitudinal bars 3a and cross bars 31 Let into the two longitudinal bars 311 are rails 4 each made in two telescoping parts 40, and 4b. The part 4a is fixed to the longitudinal bar 30. and the part 412 to one of the sections 5 of the table top. The rails 4 are such that each top section 5 can be drawn off entirely from one end of the table when the table is to be used for the game of 5 billiards as shown in Fig. 4. The top sections 5 can also be partly extended as in Fig. 3 so that one or more separate leaves 6 can be inserted between them. The billiard table cushion strips 1 are secured to the flat frame bars 3a and 3b and 10 rest on the bed 8 of the billiard table. In the space. 8 below the table top, cues, balls and the like can be stored. The bed 8 is preferably a fiveply glued and impregnated board of batten wood, but may be made of any other material, and may 5 be secured to filling pieces 8w.
The rails 4, being sunk within the frame bars 3a, do not interfere with play on the billiard table.
They can be constructed in any suitable manner,
for example according to either Fig. 5 or Fig. 6, 20 and the groove through which the guides of the top sections pass can be made very narrow as shown in Fig. 6.
Spring bolts or spring locks Il) may be provided at both ends of the frame, on the bars 3b to en- 25 gage corresponding holes or recesses l Ha, I 0b and I00 in the underside of the table leaves 5, so that the top, sections can be locked in either of the positions shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 or in an intermediate position when only one extra leaf 6 30 is inserted between the two tops 5.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the particular construction herein described and shown in the drawing.
We claim:
1. A combination extension and billiard table, comprising a frame, legs supporting said frame, a billiard bed supported by said frame in a plane below the same, guiding means provided in said frame, and a divided table top composed of re- 40 movable sections in sliding engagement with said guiding means for horizontal inward and outward displacement.
2. A combination extension and billiard table, comprising a frame, legs supporting said frame, a 45 billiard bed supported by said frame in a plane below the same, guide rails provided in said frame, removable table top sections provided on their undersides with parts for telescopic engagement with said guide rails, and table leaves adapted to 50 be inserted intermediate said top sections.
3. A combination extension and billiard table, comprising a frame, legs supporting said frame, a billiard bed supported by said frame in a plane below the same, guide rails provided in said frame, removable table top sections provided on their undersides with parts for telescopic engagement with said guide rails, and table leaves adapted to be inserted intermediate said top sections, and elastic locking means on said frame for locking said .top sections in position.
4. A combination extension and billiard table, comprising a flat frame composed of longitudinal and transverse members and supported on legs, a billiard bed secured to said members in a plane below the frame, guide-rails provided in grooves of said longitudinal members, and removable table top sections provided on their underside with means telescopically engaging said guiderails so as to be moved inwards and outwards horizontally.
5. A combination extension and billiard table, comprising a fiat frame composed of longitudinal and transverse members and supported on legs, a billiard bed secured to said members in a plane below the frame, guide-rails provided in grooves ocf said longitudinal members, and removable table top sections provided on their underside with means telescopically engaging said guide rails so as to be moved inwards and outwards horizontally, and cushions for said billiard bed secured to said longitudinal and transverse membersin contact with said bed.
