REUBEN W. HAZEN, OF FREMONT, NEBRASKA.
IMPROVEMENT IN CORN-CRIB VENTILATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 203,036, dated April 30, 1878; application filed March 20, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REUBEN W. HAZEN, of Fremont, in the county of Dodge and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ventilators for Corn-Cribs, of which the following is a specification Figure 1 represents a vertical cross-section of my improved ventilator, taken through the line a- .r, Fig. 2, and shown as applied to the floor of a corn-crib. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line 31 2/,
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for ventilating the mass of corn in a corn-crib to prevent it from spoiling, to hasten its drying, and to bring it quicker into proper condition for market, and which shall be simple in construction and easily applied to a crib.
The invention consists in an improved corncrib ventilator formed by the combination of the blocks, the top boards, and the side boards with the slotted bottom or floor of the said crib, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the bottom or floor of a crib, which should be so arranged as to allow a freecirculation of air beneath it, and which has a wide slot, a, formed longitudinally through its center. To the ends 'of the crib,
at the ends of the slot at, and at suitable distances between said ends, are attached blocks B, the upper edges of which are beveled in both directions, as shown in Fig. 1, and to them are attached boards 0, forming a roof over the slot a. The side edges of the blocks B are notched, leaving their lower parts inclined inward, and to said inclined lower parts are attached boards D, as shown in Fig 1.
By this construction the upper edges of the boards D, being within the lower edges of the boards 0, any shelled corn that may fall upon the boards 0 or the floor A of the crib will be prevented from falling out through the slot at and being wasted.
If desired, the blocks B may be made square, the boards 0 being horizontal and the boards D being vertical; but in this case the outer edges of the boards 0 should project beyond the upper edges of the boardsD, so as to prevent any shelled corn from falling out.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved corn-crib ventilator formed by the combination of the blocks B, the top boards 0, and the side boards D with the slotted bottom or floor A of the said crib, substantially as herein shown and described.
REUBEN W. HAZEN.
