IMPROVEMENT IN HOG-TROUGHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 2] 0,276, dated November 26, 1878 application filed October 1, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WASHINGTON H. TUCK- ER, of Stone Fort, in the county of Saline and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hog-Troughs, of which the following is a specification:

The object of this invention is to furnish an improved trough for feeding hogs with any desired kind of feed, and which shall be so constructed as to prevent the hogs from-wasting their food, from getting into the trough with their feet and dirtying their food, from interfering with each other while eating, and which will allow the feed to be put into the trough without its being necessary for the feeder to go into the dirt and among the hogs around the trough when supplying them with food.
Arepresents the bottom of the trough, which should be from eighteen to twenty inches wide, and of any desired length, according to the number of hogs to be fed together. B are the sides of the trough, which incline outward slightly, and should be about four inches high. G are the ends of the trough, which are vertical, extend upward, and to them are attached the ends of two boards D.
The lower parts of the boards D incline toward each other, and the said boards D are placed at such a distance from the sides B that the hogs, when eating, cannot get their feet into the trough. The lower edges of the boards D should be at such a distance from each other and from the bottom A that the feed, when poured in between the said boards D, will readily pass to and spread itself over the said bottom A.
E are rods or bars, the outer ends of which are attached to the edges of the side boards B, and their inner ends are attached to the inclined boards D at a little distance from their lower edges. The rods E are placed vat such a distance apart that the head of only one hog can be placed between any two rods at one time. The boards D and ends 0 are made of such a height that the hogs cannot get over them, and to their upper edges, at one or both sides of the trough, are attached boards F, to form a walkway for the person feeding the hogs, so that he need not get into the mud around the trough or go among the hogs in feeding them.-
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A hog-trough consisting of the bottom A, sides B B, elevated ends 0 O, converging boards D D, rods E, and platform F, all constructed as shown and described.
