UNITED STATES PATENT @FFiCE.
CHARLES S. WARN AND JOHN N. WARN, OF CAPAC, MICHIGAN.
STOCK-CAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 246,254, dated August 23, 1881.
Application filed April 16, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom "it may concern Be it known that we, CHARLES S. WARN and JOHN N. WARN, of Capac, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Stock-Cars; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure l of the drawings is a plan view, the
top of the carbeingremoved. Fig. 2 is a trans- "erse section.
This invention relates to improvements in stock-cars.
The invention consists in the construction hereinafter set forth.
In the annexed drawings, A is a stock-car. On the inside are hinged the slatted'flaps B, each beinglonger than half the width of the car, so that when the opposite ones come together, where they are fastened by pins 0, they form an angle, and the divisions thus constructed make stalls, which are arranged diagonally of the car, so that stock can more readily keep their feet during travel. These flaps are cut away at b at the sides of the car.
C are the feed and water troughs combined. These consist of two boards running from the ends of the car to the doors, and connected together by rubber or canvas, the ends of the latter being arranged so thatone board, 0, can be swung away from the other, 0, forming a water-trough between. Hooks 0 hold them together. To the tops of boards 0 are secured feed-boxes D for the stock, one for each stall. These boards are made to fit alongitudinal opening, (I, in the side of the car, into which they can be swung and held by hooks d, to be out of the way, and through which opening the feed-boxes can be filled.
E are water-tanks at the ends of the car, having cocks 0, arranged so as to be over the water-troughs when these are turned in place.
F are hay-racks, hinged above the stall-divisions, and which can be swung up and secured outof the way. Theseare filled through openings G, closed by lids H.
We claim- 1. The hinged trough C, in combination with the car, having recess (1, the trough being provided with a fastening whereby it may be thrown up into the recess and held out of the way, as set forth.
2. The hinged trough C, in combination with the flap B, cut away at b, as set forth.
3. Board 0, having feed-boxes D, in combination with board 0 and an intervening fabric, as set forth, forming acombined feed and water trough.
In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
