I BOOK HOLDER AND MARKER Filed Dec. 5, 1954 2 Sheet-Sheet 2 Patented Jan. 7, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates to a book holder and marker and the object of the invention is to provide a handy adjunctfor users of books for keeping open a book at any desired place and at V 5 the same time marking that place without interfering with the use of the book.
Another important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is simple in its construction, adjustable to difierent size books, easy to manipulate and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. t
With the above and numerous other objects in view, as will appear as the description proceeds,
the invention consists in certain novel features of 39 seen that there are two members. Each member comprises an elongated plate-like shank 5 terminating at one end in a flat co-planar cross head 6 and the other end in a cross head I bent over upon itself to provide a. parallel extension 8 connected to itself by a bight 9. 'I'heshanks 5 slide on each other through aloop H). The cross heads 6 function as stops and also as means for steadying the book or the like in open position. The device may be used either as shown in Figure 1 is a top plan view of a device embody- (Cl. 2H6) Figure 6 with the heads 1 engaging over the sides of the book or as illustrated in Figure 7 with these heads engaged over the top and bottom ends of the book.
It will be seen that the device is readily ad- 5 justable to different size books and will eflicient- 1y hold the book open at the place desired and may be easily and quickly engaged or disengaged with respect to the book.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purpose of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details 20 of construction, and in the combination and arrangementof parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A device of the class described comprising a pair of members, each member having a shank terminating at its outer end in a cross head bent over upon itself, the inner ends being T-shaped and means for slidably connecting the shanks.
2. A device of the class described comprising a pair of members, each member having a shank terminating at its outer end in a cross head bent V over upon itself, and means for slidably connecting the shanks, the inner ends of the shanks V terminating in co-planar cross heads.
PERCY C. PAYNE.
