This invention relates to a sash and window frame. i
'I'he object of the invention is the production of a sash and window framein which the sash .cords can be inspected, repaired` or replaced without removing the sash from the window frame, and in which the connection between the sash cord and the sash weight can be inspected, repaired and adjusted without remov- Aing the sash from the window frame.
-The second object of the invention -is the production of a sash and window frame, in which the sash cords can be easily detached from its sash, while the latter is positioned in its frame and without removing the window shade, curtains, metal weather stripping and thelike from the window frame. 4
'I he third object of the invention is the production of a window frame having an opening adjacent to the weather strip thereof, through which the sash cords can be repaired, replaced and the like.

The window frame in this instance is indicated having vertical members, each comprising the jamb 26 with its parting strip 2| and stop 22. The casing member is indio-ated at 23.

tical members 26 of the window frame.
The window frame is provided with the usual upper sash 36 and the lower sash 31. The upper sash 36 comprises the stiles, 38, the upper cross member 39, the lower cross member 4U 101" and the glass 4|. The lower sash 31 comprises the stiles 45,`the upper member 46, the lower member 41 and the glass 48.
Adjacent to the lower end of each jamb 2|) is formed an opening 52 with the outer side 53 15"'3 thereof, in this instance, in line with the inner side of the casing member 23 and its inner side 54 in line with the plane of the distant side of the parting strip 2|. Each jamb 20 at the upper end or" its opening 52 has formed therein the L shaped upper rabbet having the horizontal member 55 and the vertical member 56. Each jamb 26 at the lower end of its openings 52 has formed therein the oppositely positioned lower rabbet having the horizontal member 58 and the vertical member 53. It will be noted that each of the vertical members of the rabbets cuts away a portion of the parting strip 2|.
For each of the openings 52 is provided a detachable cover designed in its entirety by the numeral 6|). Each cover 60 comprises the body portion 63 having a rabbet 64 at its upper end with the projecting portion 65, and the rabbet 66 at its lower end with the projecting portion 61. At one side of the body portion 63 is indicated the parting v strip member 1|. When the cover 60 is in operative closed position the body portion 63 and the main portion of the parting strip member 1| are located in theopening 52, with the projecting portion 65 seated in the horizontal member 55 of the upper rabbet, and the projecting portion 61 in the horizontal member 58 of the lower rabbet. At the same time the upper portion of the parting strip member 1| is located in the vertical member 56 of the upper rabbet, and the lower portion of the parting strip member 1| is positioned in the vertical member 59 of the lower rabbet, whereby the parting strip member 1| is positioned in alignment with the parting strip 2|. Screws 13 eX- tend through the projecting portions 65 and 61 and engage the jamb 20 to fasten the covers 60 in place.
In each of the stiles 38 of the upper sash 36, and in the stiles 45 of the lower sash 31 adjacent to the. upper ends thereof, is detachably positioned an 35;;1ink to lock it in position.
To obtain access to thesaslr cords 89fand their' anchor bolt 'I8 having the threaded shank 'I9 and the head 80. The axial center of the bolt 'I8 is preferably spaced a short distance inwardly from the center of its stile. A nut having the Outer disc ange 83, and the preferably square body portion 84 is positioned in a recess at the outer face of its stile coaxial with the bolt 18 and in threaded engagement with the shank 19. Awasher 86 is positioned in a recess at the inner face of the stile for. the said bolt 18. Each of the stiles of the sashes-has provided therefor avertical groove 81 which extends to the upper end of the sash, and a horizontal groove 88 in each stile joins with the vertical groove 81. L shaped rabbets in each jamb at the upper and lower ends of its opening, each rabbet comprising a horizontal member and a vertical member, a detachable cover for each opening, a rabbet at the upper and lower ends of each cover, a parting 10 strip member integral with each cover and projecting beyond the ends thereof, a projecting portion at the ends of each cover over the rabbet thereof, each cover when in closed position having its projecting portions seated in the horizontal members of the rabbet of the jamb adjacent thereto, the projecting portions of the parting striprmember seated in the vertical members of the rabbets of the jamb and screws extending through the projecting portions of the-cover and 20 secured'to. the jambs.
