This invention relates to improvements in antijimmy locks and more particularly to the kind having a curved or semi-circular bolt which may be used with swing doors or with sliding doors.
An object of the invention is to provide novel mechanism, in a lock, which may be operated either by a knob or a key, or both, which is strong, durable and secure and which prevents dislocation of the bolt, casing or the keeper, from the exterior of the door, by means of a jimmy or any other tool.
A feature of the invention relates to novel means cooperating with the bolt to lock it in its effective and ineffective positions.
Another feature of the invention relates to means including an element to lock the bolt looking means, or in other words prevent displacement of the bolt locking means.
A further feature of the invention relates to novel means for actuating the locking element to unlock the bolt locking means and to then actuate the latter to unlock the bolt so that it may be acuated at will by suitable key operated or knob operated means.
Still another feature of the invention relates to novel means, including a settable finger piece, whereby the key operated means may be locked at will to prevent the operation of the lock by the key.

The lock |0 includes a casing N, Fig. 1, which is secured to a door |2 by screws l3. The casing has a stud l4 upon which is pivotally supported a semi-circular bolt |5 by means of an arm l6, see Figs. 3 and 8 also. The arm I6 is provided with a tongue I! engaging in a groove l8 and is secured to the bolt by a screw or rivet I9. The arm |6 also has a hub 20 through which extends a flattened portion 2| of a sleeve 22 which is rotatably supported on the stud M for the purpose of actuating the bolt I5, in a manner hereinafter described, to move it to its looking or efifective position, Figs. 1 and 2, or its ineffective position in Fig. 6.
The belt in its effective position extends through twoapertures 24 in a wall 25 of the casing H and through two apertures 26 of a Wall 27 of a keeper 28, said keeper being secured to the door frame by screws 30 passing through a flange 3| and screws 32. The portion 33 of the keeper wall 21, between the apertures 26, is segmental and is embraced by the bolt l5.
The bolt is normally locked against actuation from either of its positions. For this purpose it is provided with two notches 35 extending into the bolt from its eoncaved face, Figs. 2, 3 and 8, and in which notches engage lateral extensions 3' 6, see Fig. 4 also, of cooperative locking devices or slides 31. These slides 31 are moved, by suitable means hereinafter described and including actuating levers 38, to their ineffective positions, Fig. 5, to carry the lateral projections 36 out of the notches 35 and thus unlock the bolt prior to its rotative movement. The locking slides 31 are guided in slots 40 formed by the wall 25 and ribs 4| formed on the casing. They are held in the slots 40 by the actuating levers 38 which are connected thereto by studs 38.
The lock may be operated to actuate the bolt, by a small knob or finger piece 4| from the inside of the door or by means of a key operated means 42 from the outside of the door. The finger piece 4| has a shaft or spindle 43, extending into the casing, and carries a sleeve 44 secured thereto by a pin 45. Secured to one end of the sleeve is a cam disc 46 which is rotatable with the knob 4|. The cam disc 46 has thereon two cam notches 41 in which studs or rollers 48 of the levers 38 normally lie. Upon the rotation of the disc 46 the rollers 48 ride out of the notches 41, as in Fig. 5, and on to the dwell 49' of said disc, thus actuating the levers 38 about fulcrums 50, against the action of return 2 springs 5| supported on studs 5| to move the locking slides to their ineifective position, or in other words out of the notches 35 of the bolt |5 to unlock the latter.
After the bolt l5 has been thus unlocked, as in Fig. 5, it is rotated by means, operated by the knob actuated shaft 43 and now to be described, to the position in Fig. 6. On the sleeve 44 there is secured a pinion 52 which drives" an intermediate gear 53 to rotate a pinion 54, secured to the sleeve 22 in any convenient manner, to thus rotate the bolt I5, which, it will be remembered,
is connected to said sleeve 22 by the arm I6. When the cam 'disc 46 has made one half revolution the rollers 48 move into the notches 41, under the action of the springs 5|, which springs actuate the levers 38 to move the locking devices 31 to cause their extensions 36 to move into the notches 35 and thus again lock the bolt as in Fig. 6.
, The key operated means 42 includes the usual tumbler barrel or cylinder 55 in which there is contained mechanism operable by an insertable keyto rotate a flat spindle 56 extending into a tranverse slot 58 formed in a hub 59 suitably secured to an arm 66 to rotate the latter. The arm 60 has a pin 6| which extends into a slot 6| of the cam disc 46 to rotate the latter from the outside of the door and thus actuate the bolt and its associated mechanism as previously described in connection with the knob 4|. The
parts 59, 60 and 6| constitute a coupling element which is rotatably supported in a cover plate 62, Fig. 1,.secured to the stud or post M by a screw 63 and to two other posts 64, Fig. 2, by screws 65. Since it requires only one half revolution of the disc 46 to actuate the bolt l5 and it requires a complete revolution of the key to bring it to a position for withdrawal from the key hole, the slot 62 is elongated and arcuate to permit the pin 66 to move idly through 180 from the position in Fig. 1 to that in Fig. 5, the pin becoming then effective to actuate the disc 46 to the position in Fig. 6.

To hold one of the locking devices 31 in its normal, locking position to prevent shifting thereof and thus make it more diflicult to pick the look, there is provided a locking element 10 a tooth 1| which is normally in the path of a tooth 12 of the lower locking device or slide 31 I there being a slight space between the set of V teeth 1| and 12 to permit a slight movement of the slide, for a purpose hereinafter described, but not sufficient to dislodge said locking element from the notch 35 in the bolt. Said element 10 is rotatively supported on the. sleeve 22 and it has a. notch 13 into which extends a tooth 14 of an arm 15 secured to, the other locking device 31.

To set by the key from outside the door, the sleeve 44 is provided with a flange 16 having therein a notch 11 into which may be moved a tooth 18, of a slide 19, by pulling rightwardly, Fig. 1, on a finger piece or button secured to the slide 19. The slide is provided with a slot 8| through which extend the knob shaft 43, and a boss 8|, on the casing to support and. guide said slide. The intermediate gear 53 is also supported on the boss 8| and is held on a reduced portion 8| thereof by a plate 82 secured by screws 83 threaded into bosses 84 on the casing The slide 19 is held in either of its two positions by a detent 85, secured to the casing H by a screw or rivet 86 and engaging in either one of two notches 81 in the slide 19.
It will be understood that the lock is constructed so that it may be readily and quickly assembled.
While certain preferred embodiments of the invention have been shown will be understood that changes in the form, arrangement, proportions, sizes and details thereof may be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:-
1. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a semi-circular bolt to cooperate with a keeper, a pivot to support said bolt in said casing, actuating means to drive said bolt about its pivot from its projected position to its retracted position and vice-versa, cooperative means to lock said bolt in either of its positions, auxiliary means to lock the cooperative means, and means operable by the actuating means to actuate the auxiliary means to unlock said cooperative means and to'then, withdraw the cooperative means from the bolt to unlock the latter, the actuating means being then effective to actuate said bolt. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a semi-circular bolt to cooperate'with a keeper, a pivot to support said bolt in said casing, actuating means to rotate said bolt from its projected position to its retracted position and viceversa, said bolt having two notches, a slide to engage in either notch to lock the bolt in either of its positions, a guideway for said slide, and means operable by the actuating means to withdraw the slide from the notch and then actuate saidbolt, the last mentioned means including a. cam, 7 said lever engaging said slide to actuate it, and to keep it in its guide Way. 1
3. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a semi-circular bolt to cooperate with a keeper, a pivot to support said bolt in said casing, actuating means to rotate said bolt from its projected position to its retracted position and vice-versa, said bolt having two notches, a slide to engage in either notch to lock the bolt' in either of its positions, an. auxiliary element to prevent movement of said slide out of the engaged notch, means operable by the actuating and described, it
the lock so that it cannot be actuated 7 and a, lever operable by said cam,
the initial movement of said actuating means is efiective to actuate said auxiliary element to thus permit movement of said slide to unlock said bolt.
4. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a reentrant bolt, a support for said bolt on said casing, means to actuate said bolt from a looking position to a non-locking position and viceversa, cooperative means to lock said bolt in its locking position, auxiliary means to lock the cooperative means, and means operable by the actuating means to actuate the auxiliary means to unlock said cooperative element and to then withdraw the cooperative means from the bolt to unlock it, the actuating means being'then effective to actuate said bolt.
5. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a reentrant bolt, a support for said bolt on said casing, means to actuate said bolt from a looking position to a non-locking position and viceversa, said bolt having two notches, a slide to engage in either one of said notches to lock the bolt inv either one of its positions, a guideway for said slide, and means operable by the actuating means to withdraw the slide from the notch and then actuate the bolt, the last mentioned means being also effective to prevent said slide against working itself out of its guide Way.
6. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a rotatable prime mover supported in said casing, a semi-circular bolt, means independent of the prime mover to rotatably support said bolt in said casing, a cooperative element to lock said bolt, an auxiliary element supported on the pivot of said bolt to hold the locking element in its active position, a cam secured to said prime mover, means operable by said cam to actuate said auxiliary element to render it inefiective during the early part of the actuation of the cam, and gearing connecting the prime mover with the bolt so that the latter may be rotated by the prime mover after it has been unlocked.
7. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a rotatable prime mover supported in said casing, a semi-circular bolt, means independent of the prime mover to rotatably support said bolt in said casing, two cooperative elements engaging said bolt on opposite sides of its support to lock said bolt, a cam secured to said prime mover, means operable by said cam to actuate said cooperative elements simultaneously to unlock said bolt, and means connecting the prime mover with the bolt so that the latter may be rotated by the prime mover after the bolt has been unlocked.
8. In a lock, the combination. of a casing, a semi-circular bolt to cooperate with a keeper, a pivot to support said bolt in said casing, actuating means to rotate said bolt from its projected position to its retracted position and vice-versa, cooperative means to lock said bolt in either position, auxiliary means to lock the cooperative means, means operable by the actuating means to actuate the auxiliary means to unlock said cooperative means and to then withdraw the cooperative means from the bolt to unlock the latter, the actuating means being then effective to actuate said bolt, and means to lock the actuating means to prevent the actuation of said bolt thereby.
9. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a semi-circular bolt to cooperate with a keeper, a pivot to support said bolt in said casing, key operated means to rotate said bolt from its projected position to its retracted position and viceversa, said bolt having two notches, a slide toengage in either notch to lock the bolt in either of its positions, a guide for said slide, means operable by the key operated means to withdraw the slide from the notch and then actuate said bolt, and means settable at will to lock the key operated means to prevent the actuation of said bolt thereby.
10. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a reentrant bolt, a support for said bolt on said casing, means to actuate said bolt from a locking position to a non-locking position and vice-versa, cooperative means to lock said bolt in its locking position, auxiliary means to lock the cooperative means, means operable by the actuating means to actuate the auxiliary means to unlock said cooperative element and to then withdraw the cooperative means from the bolt to unlock it, the actuating means being then effective to actuate said bolt, and means to lock the actuating means to prevent the actuation of said bolt thereby.
11. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a rotatable prime mover supported in said casing, a semi-circular bolt, means independent of the prime mover to rotatably support said bolt in said casing, a cooperative element to lock said bolt, an auxiliary hub element supported on the pivot of said bolt to hold the locking element in its active position, a cam secured to said prime mover, means operable by said cam to actuate said auxiliary element to render it inefiective dur- 6 ing the early part of the actuation of the cam, gearing connecting the prime mover with the bolt so that the latter may be rotated by the prime mover after it has been unlocked, and. means cooperating with the prime mover to lock it and thus prevent the actuation of said bolt thereby.
12. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a rotatable prime mover supported in said casing, a semi-circular bolt, means independent of the prime mover to rotatable support said bolt in said casing, a cooperative element to lock said bolt, an auxiliary element supported on the pivot of said bolt to hold the locking element in its active position, a cam secured to said prime mover, a lever operable by said cam to actuate said auxiliary element, means connecting the cooperative element with the auxiliary element so that the latter may be actuated to render it ineifective during the early part of the actuation of the cooperative element, gearing connecting the prime mover with the bolt so that the latter may be rotated by the prime mover after it has been unlocked, and locking means to prevent the actuation of said cam and also prevent the actuation of said bolt.
13. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a rotatable prime mover supported in said casing, a semi-circular bolt, means independent of the prime mover to rotatably support said bolt in said casing, a cooperative element to lock said bolt, a cam secured to said prime mover, a lever operable by said cam to actuate said cooperative element, gearing connecting the prime mover with the bolt so that the latter may be rotated by the prime mover after it has been unlocked, and means settable at will to look said gearing and thus prevent the actuation of said bolt by the prime mover.
14. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a rotatable prime mover supported in said casing, a semi-circular bolt, means independent of the prime mover to rotatably support said bolt in said casing, a cooperative element to lock said bolt, a cam secured to said prime mover, a lever operable by said cam to actuate said cooperative said bolt from its proiected position to itsrelement, gearing connecting the prime 'mover with the bolt so that the latter may be rotated by the prime mover after said bolt has been unlocked, a locking member connected to said prime mover, a slide to engage said locking member to thus lock the prime mover to prevent the actuation of said bolt thereby, a finger piece to actuate the slide to render it efiective, and a detent to engage said slide to hold it in either of its positions.
15. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a semi-circular bolt, means to rotatably support said bolt on said casing, said bolt having two oppositely disposed notches in the concaved face thereof, two devices, one engaging in each notch to lock said bolt, an element to prevent displacement of one of said devices, actuating means to render said element ineffective and to withdraw the devices from the notches in said bolt to unlock it, means to actuate said bolt after it has been unlocked, and means operable at will to lock the actuating means.

17. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a semi-circular bolt to cooperate with a keeper, a pivot to support said bolt in said casing, actuating means supported on said casing to rotate tracted position'and vice-versa, two devices cooperating with the bolt to engage oppositeends thereof to lock it in both positions, and means operable by the actuating means'to move said devices out simultaneously of cooperative relation with said bolt to unlock the latter so that the bolt may be operated by said actuating means. 18. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a reentrant bolt, a support for said bolt on said casing, means to actuate said bolt from a locking position to a non-locking position and vice-versa, two devices cooperating with said bolt to lock it in either one of its positions, said devices being also efiective to relieve the support of any strain in either position of the belt which strain may result from an attempt to force the bolt, and means operable by the actuating'means to move said locking devices simultaneously out of cooperative relation with said bolt' to unlock the latter so that it may be operated by the actuating means.
19. In a lock, the combination of a casing, a reentrant bolt, a support for said bolt on said casing, means to actuate said bolt from a locking position to a non-locking position and vice-versa, two devices cooperating with said bolt to lock it, said devices being also effective to relieve the support of any strain which may result from an attempt to force the bolt, an element cooperat ing with one of said devices to lock it, and means operable by the actuating means to actuate said element to unlock the device with which it cooperates and to then actuate said devices to unlock the bolt.
