UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,024,033 v I SANITARY FOOD CONTAINER Harry T. Epstein, Roxbury, Mass. Application February 13, 1935, Serial No. 6,381
sj'claim's. (oi.'" 2o6-44) This invention relates. to an improved 'saniturned downwardly around the marginal edge of tary food container, and the primary object of the flange 1 of plate 5 and onto the outer surface the invention is to provide, a container for pies of the inner supporting band 8, and an outer supand other food-studs, by means of which such porting band II is teleecoped onto the inner pies or food-stufis will be effectively protected supporting band 8 and the downturned'margin of 5 from damage incident to their handlingyas well as cover I 0 so that said margin of cover In is tightly maintained in a cleaned and fresh condition. clamped between bands 8 and I l to hold the cover A more specific object of the present invention ID in place and maintain the portion thereof overis to provide a pie or like container which will lying the pie or food-stuff in plate 5,in a fiat 10 attractively display the contained pie or other taut condition. The outer supporting band Ii 10 food-stuffs while protecting the same against is slightly wider than the inner band 8 and has an contamination or drying out, and whereby a plu-' inturned flange .I2 at its upper edge arranged to rality of the containers may be stacked one upon overlie the adjacent portion of cover I0 and to another without danger of crushing or otherv clamp the latter together with the-flange lot Wise damaging the pies or other food-stufis conplate 5 between the same and the opposed flange 15 tained therein. 9 of the inner supporting ring 8. The flange ii A still further object of the invention is to -of outer band II formsa rigid support upon which provide a container of the above character which the bands 8 and I I of another similar container is extremely simple and durable in construction, may be seated, whereby a plurality of the conefiicient in use, and economical to manufacture. tainers may be arranged in stacked formation 20 Other objects and features of the present inwithout danger of damaging or crushing the pie vention will become apparent from the following or other food-stuff contained in the plates 5 of description when considered in connection with said containers. The supporting bands 8 and the accompanying drawing, in which: I I are also preferably pressed from a heavy Figure 1 is a top plan view of a sanitary food grade of paper stock so as to be sufficiently rigid 25 container constructed in accordance with the to support the plate 5 and the pie or other foodpresent invention. stuff placed in the latter. Obviously, the pie or Figure 2 is a central vertical section on line other food-stuff in plate 5 will be clearly and 2--2 of Figure 1; and attractively displayed through the cover I0. Figure 3 is a fragmentary vertical section il- In practice, the plate 5 with its contained food- 30 lustrating a modification of the construction stuff is placed upon the flange 9 of band 8, where- ShOWn in Figures 1 d upon the cover I0 is applied. The outer band II Referring in detail to the d ng, the p se is then telescoped onto the inner band 8 and the food container includes a plate 5 adapted to remarginal portion of cover I0. In this way the ceive the pie or other food-stufi to be packaged, pie or food-stufi may be quickly and effectively which plate is illustrated by way of example as packaged in a manner to successfully carry out an ordinary pie plate pressed from a heavy grade the stated objects of the invention. By removing of Paper Stock 80 as to be su ly ri d to propthe outer band I I by upward displacement thereerly, pp r h pi r h r food-stuff placed of, the cover It may be readily removed and access thereon, and consisting of the usual flat bottom, th had to the pie or other food-stufi placed in 4.0

A clamping and supporting bands of a superimp a other transparent and oposed like form of container. In this way, stack- 50 scopic sheet of a thin and flexible character is ing of a plurality of the containers may be 5 placed over the pie or other food-stuff in plate facilitated and relative lateral displacement of 5 as indicated at I0, thereby covering said pie or the stacked containers prevented to a material food-stuff so as to effectively exclude dust, dirt, degree. In other words, the bead I3 is of an exmoisture and the like therefrom. The margin of ternal diameter slightly less than the internal s t a pa and y os p c over I0 is d ameter of the associated inner supporting ring 55 8, and when a plurality of the containers are arranged in stacked formation, the bead l3 of one container will be snugly received within the clamping and supporting band 8 of the similar container superposed thereon, thereby preventing ready relative lateral displacement of the superdownwardly around the marginal edge of the flange of said plate and onto the outer surface of said inner clamping and supporting band, and an outer clamping and supporting band telescoped onto said inner clamping and supporting band and the downturned margin of said cover to maintain the latter and the plate in place.
2. A sanitary food container comprising an inner clamping and supporting band having an inturned flange at its upper edge, a food-stuff receiving plate having a marginal flange resting on the inturned flange of said inner clamping and supporting band, a transparent cover overlying said plate and'having its margin turned downwardly around the marginal edge of the flange of said plate and onto the outer surface of said inner clamping and supporting band, and an outer clamping and supporting band telescoped onto said inner clamping and supporting band and the downturned margin of said cover to maintain the latter and the plate in place, said outer clamping and supporting band having an inturned flange at its upper edge cooperating with the inturned flange of the inner clamping and supporting band to clamp the marginal flange of the plate and the adjacent portion of the cover therebetween.
3. A sanitary food container comprising an inner clamping and supporting band having an inturned flange at its upper edge, a food-stuff receiving plate having a marginal flange resting on the inturned flange of said inner clamping and supporting band, a transparent cover overlying said plate and having its margin turned downwardly around the marginal edge of the flange of said plate and onto the outer surface of said inner' clamping and supporting band, and an:
outer clamping and supporting band telescoped onto said inner clamping and supporting band and the downturned margin of said cover to maintain the latter and the plate in place, said outer clamping and supporting band having an iii-- turned flange at its upper edge cooperating with the inturned flange of the inner clamping and supporting band to clamp the marginal flange of the plate and the adjacent portion of the cover therebetween, said inturned flange of the outer
