Description

Dec 10, 1935. v A ME 2,023,893
PERFORATING DIE Filed Feb. 21, 1935 Patented Dec. 10, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in perforating dies in which the bottom plate is interchangeable, and may be used for any design of perforations that may be desired. These designs 5 are used on shoes as decorations.
On the drawing Fig. 1 is the bottom plate, Fig. 2 is the rest plate, Fig. 3 is the top plate, Fig. 4 and Fig. 5 show a top view of the assembled die, and show how it changes in positions while in operation.
The bottom plate I has slots 2 cut through to allow the scrap to fall through. The pins 3 are set tight, and extend so they will fit loosely in slots 4 of the rest plate 5 which has a large opening 6 in front, to be used as a handle. The two tapped holes I will fit the two screw holes 8 in the top plate 9 the heart design I is formed by holes drilled in top plate 9 to hold tubes (or hollow punches) that do the perforating. The heart design II in rest plate is formed by holes to allow the scrap to fall through.
This heart design is only a sample, any other design may be used. Fig. 4 shows the position of the die as it is pushed in a cut out press. Fig. 5 shows the position of the die as it is pulled out of a cut out press.
In the operation of this device the leather or other material to be perforated or ornamented is placed in proper position on the top plate over the hollow punches which are held in holes Ill. The whole die assembly of Fig. 4 is then slid beneath the reciprocating head of a cut out press 5 which causes said punches to perforate the material. The die assembly is then slid from beneath said head to remove the perforated material. This sliding to and from beneath the press head causes relative sliding 5 and 9 on I and 10 this is limited by pins 3. This sliding of the two upper plates on the bottom plate causes a shaking of the said upper plates and causes the punchings made by the hollow punches to be shaken from the device and causes them to fall through holes II and slots 2.
I claim- In a perforating die, a bottom plate with slots therein, a rest plate slidably mounted on said bottom plate, said plates having cooperating means to limit the sliding movement of the rest plate,
a top plate rigidly mounted on the rest plate, the top plate having holes therein to receive hollow punches and said rest plate having holes registering with said holes in the top plate so that the punching will fall therethrough.
