Be it known that'I BERN S. SCHOENKER- MAN, a citizen of the lflnited States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in is a description, reference being had to the companying drawings, which are apart of this specification. I
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a tablet press and method of making tablets.
One object ofthe present invention is to provide a tablet press so constructed that the ordinary layman or druggists appren: tice can manufacture tablets thereby and,
which will be of such compact structure that the same may be manufactured at an extremely low price and which will not be unwieldly to handle.
Another object of this invention is to protablet press in which the dies may be readily removed therefrom of various sizes whereby the in making tablets of any form. r c
A further-object of this invention is to provide a tablet press of the class described having means for positioning the bed plate and die plate upon the machine so that the material receiving pockets will be in line with the pressing member and a substantial cup shaped bed plate for. receiving ,the tablets after they have been formed. f A still further object of the present invention is to provide a tabletpress. of the class described and the hereindescribed method of making tablets from various materials.
lVith. the above and other objects in view which will appearas the description proceeds, my invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly defined. by the appended claims, it being understood that such changes in the preciseembodiment of the hereindisclosed invention may be made as come within the scope of the claims.
In the accompanying drawing I have illustrated one complete example of the physical embodiment of'my invention constructed according to the best mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles thereof, and in which:

Referring now more particularly to the accompanying drawing, 6 designates a suit able press standard having a work receivmg base 7 and a vertically bored arm 8 disposed above said base; 9 a plunger shaft a position spaced from the base 7 by means of an extensile spring 10 disposed in a pocket formed in thearm Sand bearing against a lever 11 formed on the upper end of the plunger 9 erence to the drawing.
As best shown in Fig. 2, the lower end of the plunger 9 which projects below the arm 8 is recessed, or counterboredas at 15, for receiving a stud shaft or lug formed on the top side of a disk 17, the stud shaft 16 being readily removably secured in the recess by means of a dowel or cotter pin "18 passed through alined openings in the plunger 9 and stud shaft'16. Formed on the end side of the disk 17 isa plurality of punches or compressing members 19 which are adapted to work within material receiving pockets 20 formed in a readily removable die plate 21. As best shown in Figs. 1, 3 and 4, the mouth of the material receiving pockets 20 is slightly flared or curved outwardly as at 22 to assist in guiding the compressing members 19 therein.
In general operation, the removable die plate is positioned ona solid readily removable bed plate 23, by means to be later dethe pockets into a tablet form,
closed bottom scribed, so that the members 19 will be in line with the pockets 20 and after the mate rial to be formed into tablets has been placed in the pockets 20, the lever 11 is depressed, ence to the drawing, to bring or move members 19 into the compress the material, not shown, withm after which the lever 11 is allowed to move to upri ht position under action of its spring 10. The solid bed plate 23 isthen replaced by a substantially cup shaped bed plate having a 21 and an annular side or flange and when the same is in position the handle 12 is again depressed, the members 19 forcing the tablets formed by the operation just described, into the recess formed by the sides 25 of said cup shaped container. Thus the tablets may be readily removed and placed in a suitable container, and to make a new set of tablets, the operation just described is repeated.
In order to insure the positioning of the die plate ister with the members 1%), the base? ofthe standard (3 has .i'ormed at its inner-end a re cessed portion 26 having its inner face curved to conform with the periphery of the die plate and said bed plate and also pro vided with a central inwardly extending projection or lug 27 adapted to be engaged in a correspondingly shaped recess 28 formed in the sides 01' said die plate and bed plates. The notch 28 tioned that when the same is engagedwith the lug 27 the pockets 20 will be in register with the members 19.
Fromthe foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be readily apparent that I provide a simple tablet press in which the disk 17 and the die plrte 21 may be readily detached and others secured thereto whereby the press may be readily adapted for use in forming tablets of various sizes and shapes, and that by the method of forming the tablets as described inthe operation of the press, it is possible gists apprentice to make any previous experience.
For convenience in placing the die plate 21 and the plate 23 in the press without wasting any of the material in the pockets 20, I provide a plurality ofspaced apart for the ordinary drugtablets without or moved to the left with refer the pockets 20 and firmly .i

What I claim as my invention is:
1. A tablet press of the class. described comprising a base, a removable bed plate, a the plate having an aperture therein, a plunger adapted to be passed into said aperture to compress materials disposedtherem' whereby to form the same into a tablet, and a cup shaped bed plate adapted to be substituted for said firstmentio'ned bed plate after the tablets have been formed whereby to receive thetablets and permit their ready removalfrom the aperture in the die plate.
2. A tablet press of the class described comprising a fixed base, a removable bed platefaf die plate removably positioned on the bed plate, a plurality of material reeeivlng pockets extending through said die plate and having their bottoms closed by saiid'bed plate, amovable disk, a plurality of compressing members carried. by said disk and adapted to engage in said pockets, means for moving said disk to move said "compressing members into said pockets to form materials disposed therein into tablet form, and a cup shaped removable bed plate adapted to be substituted for-said first mentioned bed plate, said compressing members being operated to push the tablets formed in said. pockets into said cup shaped bed plate for ready removal.

A device oi the class described com prising a fixed base, a removable bed plate, a die plate removably positioned on the bed plate, a plurality of material receiving pockets" extending through the die plate and having their bottoms closed by said bed plate, a movable disk, a plurality of compressing members carried by said disk and engageable in said pockets, means for moving said disk to bring the compressing members into said pockets to form materials disposed therein into tablet form, a removable cup shaped bed plate adapted to be substituted for said first mentioned bed plate, said compressing members being operable to push the tablets formed in said pocket into said cup shaped bed plate for ready removal, and cooperatingmeans between said fixed base and said. removable bed plates and die plate whereby said plates are readily and properly positioned upon the fixed base.
