Abstract

Disclosed is a packaging assembly for a home goods product, including but not limited to a packaging assembly for a pillowcase, and associated methods. The packaging can receive the home goods product in a folded configuration. The packaging can display a first side of the home goods product and a second side of the home goods product, respectively. The first and second sides of the home goods product may be displayed on a common side of the packaging. The materials of the first and second sides may differ by the fabric composition of the material and/or the color of the material.

Description

TECHNICAL FIELD

This application relates to consumer product packaging, and more particularly (but not necessarily exclusively) to a packaging for a home goods product having one or more sides or regions made of different materials, including but not limited to bedding products such as a pillowcase.

BACKGROUND

Home goods products, such as pillows, pillowcases, linens, or other suitable type of home goods products can be packaged using various packaging solutions (e.g., product-specific packaging, etc.). For example, one or more types of linens may be positioned in other packaging for presenting the color of the material comprising the home good products to a consumer prior in situ in a store. But, the packages may not allow the consumer to view both sides of a product having different materials used for opposing sides of the product.

This summary is not intended to identify key or essential features of the claimed subject matter, nor is it intended to be used in isolation to determine the scope of the claimed subject matter. The subject matter should be understood by reference to appropriate portions of the entire specification of this application, and any or all drawings or figures.
Disclosed herein are embodiments of a packaging for a home goods product. The home goods product may be made of a first material positioned on a first side of the product and a second material positioned on a second side of the product. The first and second materials may differ. In some embodiments, the first material may be a different material type, a different color, and/or different texture than the second material or otherwise differ from the second material. The product may be folded such that the first and second materials are positioned adjacent one another. Moreover, the product may be folded such that the first and second materials each extend entirely or substantially entirely along the length or width of the final folded product. The packaging can receive the home goods product in a folded configuration in which the first and second material are positioned adjacent one another. The packaging includes a display feature to provide for viewing of the first and second material, in some aspects on the same side of the packaging, based on the folded configuration of the product within the packaging. By folding the product such that the first and second materials extend entirely or substantially entirely along the length of width of the final folded product the display feature may be easier to configure to provide viewing of both the first and second materials within the packaging. The display feature may be a transparent feature, including but not limited to a cover comprising a transparent material, or an access point or opening in the packaging for displaying (i.e. providing visual access) to the first and second sides of the product positioned therein. In some aspects, the access point(s) may allow the purchaser to touch the product through the opening(s). Thus, the first and second openings may be positioned relative to the packaging display the first material (e.g. on the first side) of the home goods product and the second material (e.g. on the second side) of the home goods product, respectively, while the product is positioned within the packaging, and in some aspects may allow a purchaser to touch the product. The packaging may not include access points in aspects in which the packaging includes a transparent feature over the product such that the first and second materials of the product are visible through the transparent feature. In some aspects, the transparent feature may be a plastic material.
Also disclosed is a method for presenting a home goods product, for example for presenting the product for sale in a store environment. A plurality of folding operations may be performed with respect to a home goods product having a first side and a second side. The first and second sides of the home goods product may be made of a first material and a second material, respectively. The first and second materials may differ by material type, color, texture, or other characteristic. The plurality of folding operations can result in providing the home goods product in a folded configuration. The folded configuration can define a placement of the first side and the second side, relative to one another, and thereby define a placement of the first material and the second material defining the two sides. In some aspects, the first and second side of the product may be positioned adjacent one another (i.e. on the same side) in the folded configuration. In the folded configuration the first material of the product may extend entirely or substantially entirely across a length or width of the product in the folded configuration, similarly the second material of the product may extend entirely or substantially entirely across a length of width of the product in the folded configuration. In some aspects, the first and second sides of the product may be positioned opposite one another (i.e. on different sides) in the folded configuration. The home goods product may be positioned in the folded configuration in a packaging. The packaging may include a display feature that displays or allows visual access to the first material and the second material adjacent one another via the product's position in the package in the folded configuration. For example, the display feature may include a transparent material or feature that allows visual access to the product positioned beneath the display feature within the packaging. Moreover, the packaging may display the first and second material on the same side of the packaging. In some aspects, the packaging may include one or more openings or access points which provide visual access, and optionally touch access, to each of the first and second sides of the product based on the folded configuration of the product, the location and size of the one or more openings, and the otherwise opaque appearance of the packaging. As such, the packaging may display both the first and second sides of a product for a purchaser while the product is in the packaging and displayed in a store. In some aspects, the product may include both a transparent feature and one or more access point.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

The subject matter of embodiments of the present invention is described here with specificity to meet statutory requirements, but this description is not necessarily intended to limit the scope of the claims. The claimed subject matter may be embodied in other ways, may include different elements or steps, and may be used in conjunction with other existing or future technologies. This description should not be interpreted as implying any particular order or arrangement among or between various steps or elements except when the order of individual steps or arrangement of elements is explicitly described.
Certain aspects and features of the present disclosure relate to a packaging for a home goods product that can allow a purchaser to see a first side of the home goods product and a second side of the home goods product, or in some aspects a first region of the home goods product and a second region of the home goods product while the product is within the packaging. The home goods product can include, without limitation, a pillowcase, a pillow, one or more types of linens, a robe (or other clothing item), or other suitable home goods and consumer products that may include more than one color and/or material. According to aspects of the present disclosure, the first side of the home goods product can be made of, or otherwise include, a first material, and the second side of the home goods product can be made of, or otherwise include, a second material. In some examples, the first material may be different than the second material. For example, a pillowcase may have a first side made of a first material, for example rayon, bamboo rayon, polyester, or other suitable material or combination of materials, and a second side made of a second material, for example silk, mulberry silk, satin, or other suitable material or combinations of materials. The user can thereby select an orientation, such as which side to position towards their body (e.g. sleep on, wear, etc.) based on different characteristics of the first and second materials.
A packaging for the home goods product (e.g. a pillowcase, linens, a duvet cover, a robe, etc.) can receive the home goods product in a folded configuration for displaying both sides of the home goods product, having different materials, on the same side of the packaging. In some aspects, the packaging may also provide openings or access points touching each of the first and second sides (or in some aspects, regions) of the product so that a user may see and also feel the materials of each of the first and second sides. The home goods product can be prepared for positioning in the packaging by folding or other related or suitable techniques to present the first and second sides of the product in the desired folded configuration. In some examples, folding the home goods product can involve folding the home goods product into a final, folded configuration in which both the first side of the product and the second side of the product are presented on a single side of, or otherwise in a common direction with respect to, the final folded configuration. In some aspects, in the final folded configuration the first material of the product extends entirely or substantially entirely along the width or length of the folded product and the second material extends entirely or substantially entirely along the width or length of the folded product. In some aspects, the final, folded configuration of the product can involve the first side of the product and the second side of the product being presented on different sides of the final, folded configuration.
The home goods product (e.g., in the final, folded configuration or in other suitable configurations) can be positioned in the packaging. For example, the product can be positioned in a first component of the packaging. In this example, the product can be folded (e.g., into the final, folded configuration of the product) and can be positioned in the first component of the packaging for presenting the first side of the product and the second side of the product adjacent one another. In some examples, the first side of the product and the second side of the product can be displayed or presented on different sides of the packaging.
The first component of the packaging can be enclosed by, or otherwise positioned in, a second component of the packaging. For example, the first component may slide at least partially within the second component of the packaging. Subsequently (e.g., after positioning the second component of the packaging at least partially around the first component of the packaging), the first side of the product and the second side of the product can be visible (e.g., via the common side of the packaging) to a purchaser via a display feature. In some aspects, the first and/or second sides may also be further exposed to touch via openings or access points in the packaging such that a user may touch the first and/or second sides.
Referring now to the drawings for a better understanding of the invention, FIG. 1 illustrates a diagram of a pillowcase 100 positioned on a pillow 108, the pillowcase 100 having a first side 102 and a second side 104. The first side 102 can be made of, or otherwise include, a first material, and the second side 104 can be made of, or otherwise include, a second material. In some examples, the first material can be different than the second material. In some examples, the first material may be a different color than the second material. In some examples, the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 can provide one or more different functions for the pillowcase 100. For example, the first side 102 and the second side 104 can be made of, or otherwise include, materials (e.g., silk, rayon, etc.) that may provide a remedy to one or more skin conditions. The skin conditions can include dry skin, oily skin, or other related or suitable conditions. For example, in one aspect of the present disclosure, the first side 102 can be made of 100% silk and the second side can be made of 100% rayon from bamboo. In such an example, the first side 102 (i.e., the first material) can provide a remedy or treatment for dry skin by way of the characteristics of the first material, i.e. 100% silk. The second side 104 (i.e., the second material) can provide a second remedy or treatment for oily skin by way of the characteristics of the second material, i.e. 100% rayon from bamboo. In other aspects of the present disclosure, the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 can comprise other materials for providing any other treatments or remedies. In some examples, the first and second materials may differ in tactile feeling (e.g. softness, plushness, smoothness, silkiness, etc.) and may provide a user with a different tactile experience based on the side of the material the user orients adjacent their skin. For example, a blanket, duvet cover, robe, etc. may include the first side made of the first material being a silk, sateen or similar material and the second side, made of the second material being a flannel, cotton, or similar material so as to provide a user with the choice of tactile sensation they want against their skin.
The first side 102 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 can be seamed together at a seam 105, the seam 105 as shown in FIG. 2 may be a bound seam 105, though in other aspects other seam types may be used. The bound seam 105 can include a material and an amount of stitches (e.g., stitch 107) per inch along the seam 105 for improving durability (compared to other seams) and for affixing at least two different materials together. For example, the bound seam 105 can include twelve (12) stitches per inch and the stitching of the seam 105 can be made of 100% polyester thread. The bound seam 105 can include other suitable amounts (including less than twelve (12) and greater than twelve (12)) of stitching and other suitable materials for durably affixing two or more materials together.
In some examples, the bound seam 105 can affix the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100 to the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 where the first side 102 and the second side 104 differ in their materials. For example, the first side 102 can include a first material and can be characterized by a first weight. The second side 104 can include a second material and can be characterized by a second weight. The bound seam 105 can affix the first side 102, having the first weight, to the second side 104, having the second weight in a sturdy manner suitable for longevity of the product. The seam 105 can affix other suitable materials, having any suitable weight or construction, together.
In some aspects, the bound seam 105 can include twelve (12) stitches per inch of a thread to securely join together the first side 102 and the second side 104 when the first side 102 and the second side 104 are formed of different materials, for example but not limited to 100% silk and 100% rayon from bamboo, respectively. The thread may be a polyester thread. The polyester thread may be, for example but not limited to a 100% polyester thread. The bound seam 105 can improve the durability of the seam where the seam is between at least two different materials as compared to using a non-bound seam. This can reduce separation, tearing, and the like, especially in the context of the pillowcase 100 being washed repeatedly. For example, the bound seam 105 may tear less than an overlock of the seams and may be stronger and more durable than a binding made of 100% silk or nylon/wooly stretchable thread.
The bound seam 105 can be positioned in any suitable location with respect to the pillowcase 100. For example, as illustrated with respect to FIG. 1 , the bound seam 105 can be positioned on a left side of the pillowcase 100. The left side of the pillowcase 100 can be positioned opposite a right side of the pillowcase 100, and the right side of the pillowcase 100 can include an opening (e.g., for receiving a pillow or other suitable items). Accordingly, the bound seam 105 can be positioned opposite the opening of the pillowcase 100, or in other suitable locations with respect to the pillowcase 100 for affixing the first side 102 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100.
The pillowcase 100 can additionally include a tag or ribbon 106 (or other suitable component) positioned on one or both of the first side 102 and the second side 104. The tag or ribbon 106 may indicate a respective side or a material associated with one or both of the first side 102 and the second side 104, such as for a user to determine which side they want to use. The pillowcase 100 can include any other suitable components.
The pillowcase 100 can be folded into a final, folded configuration according to aspects of the present disclosure via a plurality of steps, for example via the steps illustrated in FIGS. 3A-3H. FIGS. 3A-3H include a set of steps that depict exemplary folding steps for folding the pillowcase 100 from an unfolded configuration (e.g., similar to the pillowcase 100 depicted in FIG. 1 ) to an exemplary final, folded configuration.
At the step depicted in FIG. 3A, a first fold is made with respect to the pillowcase 100. The pillowcase 100 can be positioned (e.g., on a flat surface) with the first side 102 facing upward and the second side 104 facing downward. A first edge 302 can be folded about a first fold line 304 a towards a second edge 306 of the pillowcase 100 to position a portion of the second side 104 adjacent the first side 102. In this intermediary folded position shown in FIG. 3A the first fold line 304 a defines a third edge 308 of the pillowcase 100. In some examples, a distance between the first edge 301 and the first fold line 302 a (or third edge 308) can be about four inches, but in other aspects the distance can be a different distance, in particular depending on the size of the pillowcase 100 or other object being folded.
At the next step as depicted in FIG. 3B, the pillowcase 100 is flipped over from the intermediary folded position shown in FIG. 3A to expose the second side 104. At the next step as depicted in FIG. 3C, the second edge 306 of the pillowcase 100 can be folded upwards towards the third edge 308 about a second fold line 304 b to position a portion of the first side 102 adjacent the second side 104. In this intermediate folded position depicted in FIG. 3C, the second fold line 304 b further defines a fourth edge 310. The distance between the second edge 306 and the second fold line 304 b or fourth edge 310 may be approximately four inches, but in other aspects the distance can be a different distance, in particular depending on the size of the pillowcase 100 or other object being folded.
At the next step as depicted in FIG. 3D, the fourth edge 310 can be folded upwards towards the third edge 308 about a third fold line 304 c to position another portion of the first side 102 adjacent the second side 104. In this intermediate folded position depicted in FIG. 3D, the third fold line 304 c further defines a fifth edge 312. The distance between the fourth edge 310 and the third fold line 304 c (or fifth edge 312) may be about four inches, but in other aspects the distance can be a different distance, in particular depending on the size of the pillowcase 100 or other object being folded.
At the next step as depicted in FIG. 3E, the fifth edge 312 can be folded upwards towards the third edge 308 about a fourth fold line 304 d to position another portion of the first side 102 adjacent the second side 104. In this intermediate folded position depicted in FIG. 3E, the fourth fold line 304 d further defines a sixth edge 314. The distance between the fifth edge 312 and the fourth fold line 304 d or sixth edge 314 may be about four inches, but in other aspects the distance can be a different distance, in particular depending on the size of the pillowcase 100 or other object being folded. In this intermediate fold position a first side edge 316 and a second side edge 318 may further extend along the right and left sides of the folded pillowcase as shown in FIG. 3E.
At the next step depicted in FIG. 3F, the first side edge 316 can be folded towards the second side edge 318 about a fifth fold line 304 e. In the intermediate folded position depicted in FIG. 3F the fifth fold line 304 e defines a third side edge 320. In some aspects the first side edge 316 can be positioned approximately halfway between the second side edge 318 and the third side edge 320 in the intermediate folded position shown in FIG. 3F, though in other aspects the first side edge 316 may be folded a different distance.
At the next step depicted in FIG. 3G, the first side edge 316 can be folded towards the second side edge 318 about a fifth fold line 304 e. In the intermediate folded position depicted in FIG. 3F the fifth fold line 304 e defines a third side edge 320. In some aspects the first side edge 316 can be positioned approximately halfway between the second side edge 318 and the third side edge 320 in the intermediate folded position shown in FIG. 3F.
At the next step depicted in FIG. 3H, the third side edge 320 can be folded towards the fourth side edge 322 about a fifth fold line 304 g until the fourth side edge lines up with or is positioned proximate to the fourth side edge 322. The folded position depicted in FIG. 3H may be the final, folded position of the pillowcase 100 according to aspects of the present disclosure. In the illustrated final, folded position depicted in FIG. 3H, the pillowcase 100 is folded such that a portion of the first side 102 is positioned adjacent a portion of the second side 104 on at least one side of the final, folded configuration while the pillowcase 100 is folded to a size sufficient to fit within a packaging for display at a retailer. In the folded configuration depicted in FIG. 3H, each of the first side 102 and the second side 104 extend across the width of the final folded product. In such a folded configuration it may be easier to display the first and second sides 102, 104 within the packaging given the amount of each side provided on the single side of the final folded configuration. By positioning the first side 102 and the second side 104 adjacent one another, the folded product may be positioned in a packaging such that the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 are viewable from a common direction. Other final, folded configurations are contemplated by this disclosure, and different amounts (e.g., less than seven or more than seven) of folding steps can be used to arrive at the illustrated or alternative final, folded configuration, depending on the size of the pillowcase 100 or other object being folded.
FIG. 4 depicts another final, folded configuration of the pillowcase 100 in which the first side 102 and the second side 104 are positioned adjacent one another in a different orientation than that shown in FIG. 3H, according to aspects of the present disclosure. In the depicted orientation, each of the first side 102 and the second side 104 extend across the length of the final folded configuration. By positioning the first side 102 and the second side 104 adjacent one another, the folded product may be positioned in a packaging such that the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 are viewable (i.e. displayed) on a common side of the packaging. Accordingly, the entity may be able to see (and in some aspects optionally feel) the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 while the pillowcase 100 is positioned within a packaging. In alternative aspects of the present disclosure the pillowcase 100 may be folded in an alternative manner so as to position the first and second sides 102, 104 in an alternative orientation for insertion into a product packaging that may allow a user to see both sides of the pillowcase 100.
FIG. 4 also depicts the pillowcase 100 including ribbons 106 which may include indicators of the material or other distinguishing characteristics of the sides or material for a user to consider when using the product, for example which side they wish to sleep on against their skin. Though FIGS. 1-4 describe aspects of the present disclosure relative to the product being a pillowcase 100, this disclosure is not limited to pillowcases. Other home goods and consumer goods may have two sides (or more) that are made of different materials. For example, bed linens, a comforter, a blanket, a duvet cover, a robe, or other goods may have the same features as those described herein with respect to the pillowcase 100.
FIG. 5A depicts a diagram of an example of a packaging 500 in an unassembled position. The packaging 500, when assembled, displays a first side 102 of a home goods product and a second side 104 of the home goods product within the packaging, according to one example of the present disclosure. The unassembled packaging 500 can include a first component 502, a second component 504, and may include any other suitable components for forming an assembled packaging (e.g., the packaging 500 depicted in the assembled orientation in FIG. 5B). The first component 502 may be an “inner” component that can be sized to be positioned at least partially within an “outer” component (e.g., the second component 504).
The first component 502 and the second component 504 can be made of, or otherwise include, material used for consumer packaging. Examples of suitable material for consumer packaging can include cardboard, plastics, metals (e.g., aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, etc.), and the like. In some examples, the first component 502 and the second component 504 can include different materials. For example, the first component 502 can include a cardboard, or cardboard-like, material, and the second component 504 can include a plastic (e.g., hard plastic) material. In other examples, the first component 502 and the second component 504 can be made of, or otherwise include, similar materials. The unassembled packaging 500, including the first component 502 and the second component 504, can include other suitable amounts or types of components for presenting the home goods product or for other suitable functions.
The first component 502 can be sized to receive the pillowcase 100 in a final, folded configuration, for example as shown in FIG. 3G or FIG. 4 or in other suitable final, folded configurations of the pillowcase 100. The first component 502 can be shaped like a rectangular prism having six sides. Five sides (e.g., a bottom side 506, a top side 508, a left side 510, a right side 512, and a back side (not visible in FIG. 5A) can be made of, or otherwise include, a first material (e.g., cardboard, plastic, etc.). A sixth side (e.g., a front side 514) may be open such that the first component 502 defines an interior space that may receive the pillowcase 100. While described and illustrated as a rectangular prism, the first component 502 can alternatively be shaped like a hexagonal prism, a triangular prism, a pyramid, a sphere, or any other suitable shape for receiving the pillowcase 100 for presenting to the entity.
The front side 514 of the first component 502 may ultimately be overlaid with a display feature, shown in FIGS. 5A-5B as a cover 526. The cover 526 can be transparent to allow viewing of at least a portion of the pillowcase 100 through the cover 526 when the pillowcase 100 is positioned within the first component 502. The cover 526 may be made of, or otherwise include, plastic material or other protective material that can protect or otherwise protect the pillowcase 100 while positioned in the first component 502 while providing visual access to the pillowcase. Optionally, the cover 526 may also include at least one access point, for example a first access point 528 and a second access point 530. In aspects in which the cover 526 or other feature of the packaging 500 is not transparent so as to display the first and second sides 102, 104 when the pillowcase 100 is positioned within the packaging, the access points may act as the display feature and allow for visual access to the first and second sides 102, 104. In some aspects, the access point(s) may provide for touch access to the pillowcase 100 positioned within the packaging 500. In aspects that include access points, the first access point 528, the second access point 530, or a combination thereof may be cutouts, openings, or other access points in the cover 526 that can allow a user to touch the first side 102 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 positioned therein. As illustrated, the first access point 528 and the second access point 530 are circles, but the first access point 528 and the second access point 530 can be shaped in other suitable configurations (e.g., squares, hexagons, triangles, etc.). The first access point 528 may provide access (e.g., visual access, feel access, smell access, etc.) to the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100. The second access point 530 may provide access (e.g., visual access, feel access, smell access, etc.) to the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100. Other configurations of the first access point 528 and the second access point 530 are possible. In some aspects, access points may be provided in the first component 502 itself, and no cover 526 may be included. In some aspects, a single access point may be provided. In addition, though in the aspect depicted in FIG. 5A and 5B the packaging 500 provides two access points 528, 530 that are positioned on the same side of the packaging 500 (front side 514 of the first component 502), in other aspects one or more access points may be provided on different sides of the packaging 500 or the one or more access points may be positioned on a different side of the packaging 500 than what is depicted in FIG. 5A. In still yet other aspects, the packaging 500 may include no access points and the first and second sides 102, 104 of the pillowcase 100 may be displayed via a transparent feature of the packaging, for example the cover 526.
As shown in FIG. 5A, the pillowcase 100 (or any other suitable product) may be positioned within the first component 502 in the final, folded configuration shown in FIG. 3H. In place within the first component 502, the first side 102 and second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 are visible given they are on the same side of the final, folded configuration. The cover 526 may extend over the pillowcase 100 to protect the pillowcase 100 from dirt and to retain the pillowcase 100 in position within the first component 502. The cover 526 may be transparent to provide visual access to the first and second sides 102, 104. In some aspects, the first access point 528 may provide access to the first side 102 of the pillowcase 100, for example such that the first side 102 may be touched (and where the cover 526 is opaque, may provide for the first side 102 being viewable). The second access point 530 may provide access to the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100, for example such that the second side 104 may be touched (and where the cover 526 is opaque, may provide for the first side 102 being viewable). In some aspects, a single access point may be included in the cover 526 and may be sized and shaped to allow visual inspection of and physical access to the first side 102 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100. In other aspects, the first side 102 and the second sides 104 of the pillowcase 100 may be oriented in a different manner and as such the packaging 500 may include one or more access points located in a different position than that shown in FIGS. 5A, 5B to provide for visual and optionally physical access to the two sides.
According to the aspect of the present disclosure depicted in FIG. 5A, the packaging 500 also include the second component 504. The second component can be sized to at least partially receive the first component 502 and can be used for other suitable functions. For example, the second component 504 can be sized and shaped to receive at least a portion of the first component 502. As illustrated in FIG. 5A, the second component 504 is a hollow rectangular prism with five solid sides (e.g., a left side 516, a top side 518, a bottom side 520, a front side 522, and a back side (not shown)) and an open sixth side (e.g., a right side 524). Accordingly, the first component 502, having the pillowcase 100 or other suitable home goods product or consumer product, can be positioned, at least partially, in the second component 504. In some examples, positioning the first component 502 in the second component 504 can leave at least a portion of the first component 502 exposed (as shown in FIG. 5B). As shown in FIG. 5B, the exposed portion of the first component 502 having the pillowcase 100 positioned therein can thereby display the first and second sides 102, 104 of the pillowcase 100 on a single side of the packaging 500 (here the front). Though access points 528, 530 are depicted in FIG. 5A-5B, the packaging 500 may optionally not include access points. In some examples, the second component 504 can also be used to communicate information about the product to a purchaser, for example but not limited to a product name, a product description and other suitable information.
In this assembled position of the packaging 500 depicted in FIG. 5B, the packaging 500 displays the first side 102 and the second side 104 of the pillowcase 100 on the front side of the packaging, adjacent one another. The packaging 500 thereby allows for a purchaser may see a first side 102 of a home goods product, here the pillowcase 100, and a second side 104 of the home goods product, according to one example of the present disclosure.
While the packaging 500 is illustrated and described in FIGS. 5A-5B as being a two-piece packaging, having a generally rectangular shape the packaging 500 can include other suitable configurations according to aspects of the present disclosure. For example, the packaging 500 can include other amounts of components (e.g., less than two or more than two). Additionally, the packaging 500, and any components thereof, can include shapes that are different (e.g., spherical, hexagonal, triangular, etc.) than a rectangular shape. The packaging 500 can also include different amounts of access points (e.g., zero, one, or more than two) for displaying (the product within the packaging 500 where the packaging 500 does not include a transparent feature for viewing the product positioned therein. In some aspects, access points may be included to provide touch access to the product positioned within the packaging. Additionally, the optional access points can be positioned on other suitable sides (e.g., not on the front side as illustrated in FIG. 2 ) of the packaging 200 or on separate sides (e.g., the first access point 210 on a first side of the packaging 200, and the second access point 212 on a second side of the packaging 200) of the packaging 200. For example, a single access point may be positioned on a single side and may be sized and shaped to provide visual and physical access to first and second sides of a product comprising different materials or colors. In another example, two or more access points may be positioned on any single side of the packaging and may be sized and shaped to provide visual and physical access to first and second sides of a product comprising different materials or colors. In another example, two or more access points may each be positioned on different sides of the packaging and may be sized and shaped to provide visual and physical access to first and second sides of a product comprising different materials or colors.
FIG. 6 depicts another example of a packaging 600 according to aspects of the present disclosure. The packaging 600 may have a generally rectangular shape, the packaging 600 may comprise one or more components. For example the packaging 600 could be formed from a single blank of foldable material that is folded and secured into a box that may have an end open to receive a product (e.g. the pillowcase 100) in a folded position and then may be closed and secured in a closed position. In this aspect, the packaging 600 may not include any transparent feature for displaying the product positioned therein. In such aspects, the packaging 600 may include a display feature comprising a first access point 602 on a first side 604 of the packaging 600 and a second access point 606 on a second side 608 of the packaging 600. The product positioned within the packaging 600 may be folded or oriented such that a first material 610 used in the product may be viewed via the first access point 602. The product positioned within the packaging 600 may be folded or oriented such that a second material 612 used in the product may be viewed via the second access point 606. In some aspects, the product positioned within the packaging 600 may be shrink wrapped or otherwise protected from dirt and damage while still providing for display of the first and second materials 610, 612 via the access points 602, 606. In some aspects, the access points 602, 606 may be positioned on the same side of the packaging 600. In some aspects, the product may not be shrink wrapped or otherwise covered such that the access points 602, 606 may also provide for touch access to the first and second sides 610, 612 of the product. Though shown in this example as being generally rectangular in shape, other aspects of the present disclosure contemplate the packaging 600 having any other suitable amounts (e.g., less than six or more than six) of sides and components, and may represent a shape different than a rectangular outer shape, or a combination thereof. For example, the packaging 600 can be a triangular shape, a hexagonal shape, a pyramid, a dodecahedron, a sphere, or other suitable shape for presenting one or more products. Similarly, one or more access points may be sized, shaped and positioned differently than that shown in FIG. 6 so as to achieve visual access (and optionally touch access) to two or more materials used in different locations on the product.
FIG. 7 is a perspective view of another example of an assembled packaging 700 that can simultaneously display a first side 102 and a second side 104 of the pillowcase 100, here on a single side of the packaging 700, though the packaging 700 may receive a different home goods product, according to an example of the present disclosure. The assembled packaging can include a first side 701, a second side 702, a third side 703, a front side 704, and a back side (not illustrated). The pillowcase 100, or other suitable home goods product, can be positioned (e.g., via components of the assembled packaging 700 or by simply opening the assembled packaging 700, etc.) in the assembled packaging 700 for presenting the first side 102 and the second side 104 for viewing, and optionally touching, by the user.
The assembled packaging 700 may have a different display feature as compared to the packaging depicted in FIGS. 5A-5B. For example, the assembled packaging 700 can include a display feature including a single access point 705 as opposed to a transparent cover as shown in FIGS. 5A-5B. The single access point 705 can be sized to provide access to the first side 102 of the product and the second side 104 of the product, for example with a fold 706 between the first side 102 and the second side 104 centralized (or otherwise positioned) in the single access point 705. As illustrated, the single access point 705 is positioned on the front side 704 of the assembled packaging 700, but the single access point 705 can be positioned in any suitable location with respect to the assembled packaging 700. In still yet other aspects, the assembled packaging 700 may include a transparent feature positioned over the product positioned within the packaging 700 for displaying the first and second sides of the product on one or more sides of the assembled packaging 700. In such an aspect where the assembled packaging 700 includes a transparent feature, no access points may be included in the assembled packaging 700.
Different arrangements of the components depicted in the drawings or described above, as well as components and steps not shown or described are possible. Similarly, some features and sub-combinations are useful and may be employed without reference to other features and sub-combinations. Embodiments of the invention have been described for illustrative and not restrictive purposes, and alternative embodiments will become apparent to readers of this patent. Accordingly, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described above or depicted in the drawings, and various embodiments and modifications may be made without departing from the scope of the claims below.

Claims

1. A packaging comprising:

a first component having an interior region sized to receive a pillowcase having a first side comprising a first material and a second side comprising a second material, wherein the first material is different from the second material,

a cover for retaining the pillowcase in place within the interior region of the first component, the cover comprising a transparent material; and

a second component sized to receive at least a portion of the first component and the cover when the packaging is in an assembled position such that the first and second materials are visible via the cover on a first side of the packaging.

2. The packaging of claim 1, wherein the cover further comprises:

a first access point configured to provide touch access to the first side of the pillowcase positioned within the interior region of the first component;

a second access point configured to provide touch access to the second side of the pillowcase positioned within the interior region of the first component.

3. The packaging of claim 2, wherein the first access point and the second access point are exposed and accessible when the packaging is in the assembled position.

4. An assembly comprising:

a pillowcase comprising:

a first side comprising a first material; and

a second side comprising a second material, wherein the first material is different from the second material, wherein the pillowcase is positioned within a packaging, the packaging comprising:

an interior region sized to receive the pillowcase;

a transparent feature for displaying the first side and the second side of the pillowcase on a single side of the packaging when the packaging is in an assembled position with the pillowcase positioned therein in a folded configuration.

5. The assembly of claim 4, wherein the packaging further comprises a first access point for providing touch access to the first side of the pillowcase, and a second access point for providing touch access to the second side of the pillowcase.

6. The assembly of claim 5, wherein the first access point and second access point are positioned on a first side of the packaging.

7. The assembly of claim 5, wherein the transparent feature comprises a cut-out within the packaging, the transparent feature further comprising a transparent material positioned over the cut-out.

8. The assembly of claim 6, wherein the transparent feature comprises an additional cut-out within the packaging and a transparent material positioned over the additional cut-out.

9. The assembly of claim 4, wherein the transparent feature is a cover comprising a translucent material positionable over a first component of the packaging, wherein the first component defines the interior region of the packaging.

10. The assembly of claim 9, wherein the cover further comprises at least one access point extending through the cover.

11. The assembly of claim 4, wherein the first material and the second material comprise different colors.

12. The assembly of claim 4, wherein the packaging further comprises a first component defining the interior region of the packaging, and a second component, wherein the first component is sized and shaped to be at least partially received within the second component when the packaging is in the assembled position.

13. The assembly of claim 12, wherein the packaging further comprises a cover positionable over the first component for retaining the pillowcase in place in the interior region of the first component.

14. The assembly of claim 13, wherein the transparent feature is the cover.

15. The assembly of claim 13, wherein the cover comprises a plastic material.

16. A method comprising:

providing a pillowcase having a first side and a second side, wherein the first side comprises a first material and the second side comprises a second material that is different from the first material;

performing a plurality of folding operations with respect to the pillowcase for positioning the pillowcase in a folded configuration in which the first material extends substantially across a length or a width of the pillowcase in the folded configuration and in which the second material extends substantially across the length or the width of the pillowcase in the folded configuration;

positioning the pillowcase in the folded configuration in a packaging comprising:

an interior region sized to receive the pillowcase in the folded configuration;

a display feature for providing visual access to the first side and the second side of the pillowcase when the packaging is in an assembled position.

17. The method of claim 16, wherein the display feature provides for visual access to each of the first side and the second side of the pillowcase on a common side of the packaging.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the first material comprises silk and the second material comprises rayon from bamboo.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the display feature is a transparent feature allowing visual access to the first and second sides of the pillowcase positioned within the packaging in the folded configuration.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the display feature is at least one access point positioned in the packaging.
