This invention relates to improvements in massagingand muscle restoring devices and pertains particularly to such a device for use in the treatment of the face.

The present invention has for its primary object to provide a device designed to be applied to the head, which is formed to apply supporting pressure to certain muscles of the face and to impart a massaging action which, when worn by young people, will retain the chin and face muscles in position and when worn by elderly persons will tend to restore the muscles to their proper positions, and also to massage away excess tissue.

- Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above described character which may be conveniently worn during sleep and which will not interfere with speech or the opening of the mouth or moving of the chin for other purposes but which, on the other hand, operates to massage the tissues when the jaw is moved for speaking or chewing.

Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent as the description of the same proceeds and it is to be understood that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawing illustrating the same or of the description but may be changed or modified so long as such changes or modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention as expressed in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the views, the numeral I indicates in dotted outline, a head upon which the present device is shown applied. This device comprises a crown band 2 which is designed to extend transversely across the top of the head and which is, therefore, of arcuate contour. This band may be made of thin metal or of resilient fabric, as desired, and its ends are connected to the opposite sides of an encircling band 3, which passes from the sides of the head and around the back of the same and which is connected at its forward ends with the wider body 4 which, when the device is in use, extends across the forehead of the wearer. This portion 4 of the device is illustrated as being in the form of a plate and it may be of any suitable flexible material such as light leather or fabric or, if desired, it may form an integral part 6 of the band 3 so that the latter will define a complete annulus which encircles the head.

The sides of the band 3 adjacent the ends of the cross band 2 have secured thereto buttons 5 which extend outwardly to facilitate the application 10 of certain hereinafter described parts to the head band.

At the front of the device, there is disposed a metallic frame which is indicated generally by the numeral 6 and which preferably comprises a 15 length of relatively light resilient bar metal which is bent intermediate its ends and formed adjacent the bend to provide a series of loops 7 in each of which is held a snap button 8. The series of buttons and loops 'l-S extend longitudinally through a portion of the length of the frame 6 and the. remaining portions of the frame are arranged in diverging relation to form an inverted V, the divergent portions of the frame being indicated by the numeral 9. 25 Connected with each of the divergent portions 9 of the frame 6 is an elongated generally triangularly shaped body of fabric or leather In, each of these bodies being joined along their basal edges to their respective arms of the frame 0 6. While any desired method may be employed for attaching such bodies to the parts 9 of the frame, it is preferred that they be attached so that they may be removed therefrom, and one method of detachably connecting them with the 35 frame is illustrated, and comprises the formation of sleeves H across the basal ends of the bodies and beyond the latter at one side, as illustrated in Figure 2, the free ends of these sleeves'being joined together at l 2. By springing the free ends 40 of the arms 9 together, the sleeves ll may be slipped thereon until the joined ends reach the area where the arms come together, whereupon the arms may be allowed to spring back to their normal divergent relation. 45 At the pointed or apex ends of the triangular bodies Leach has attached thereto a body of resilient material, which is indicated by the numeral l3 and to each of these bodies of resilient material is secured a tab M, which may be of 50 leather, which is provided with a series of apertures l5. These apertures [5 are designed for selective engagement with the button 5 which is adjacent thereto. The body or plate 4 also carries or has secured thereto a pin l6 which is designed to engage in any one of the buttons 8 which are carried by the frame 6, so that this frame will be suspended from the forehead engaging part 4 of the device. The bodies I0, which may be referred to as cheek bodies, have their lower edges connected by a chin strap IT.-

The connection of the ends of the strap with the cheek bodies or massagers ll] is relatively close to the arms 9, as illustrated.

In the use of the present device, it will be apparent that the same is held on the head by means of the bands 2 and 3 and the nose of the user is located in the inverted V formed by the divergent ends or arm portions of the frame 6. This then locates the flat massaging bodies It! against the cheeks of the wearer and the strap ll passes beneath and supports the tissues of the chin.

It will be apparent that by reason of the plurality of buttons 8 carried by the frame and the series of apertures in the tabs I4, the cheek massagers and chin strap may be adjusted in accordance with the needs of the wearer of the device and also that after the device has been placed in position, it may be worn without discomfort and without interfering with the talking or movement of the chin of the wearer or other purposes. Because of the fact that the wearer is able to move his chin and the fact that the frame 6 is resilient and that the cheek bodies It] are resiliently connected with the head encircling band 13, the masticating and expression muscles will be massaged when this movement takes place as will also the tissues of the chin, and thus in addition to holding the tissues in place, the massaging of the same will tend to remove excessive flesh. Some slight movement will also be imparted to the body 4 which is in contact with the forehead and thus effect the massaging away of the lines which commonly form in this part of the face.

What is claimed is:-

1. Face massaging means, comprising a head supported unit having a forehead engaging portion, a resilient frame suspended from said forehead engaging portion and having downwardly divergent arms disposed on opposite sides of the nose of the wearer, fiat cheek engaging bodies each connected between an arm and the head unit, and connecting means between said cheek and the engaging bodies for engaging beneath the chin of a wearer.

2. Face massaging means, comprising a head supporting unit, a frame having an inverted, V- shaped portion in which the nose of the wearer positions, a pair of flexible flat cheek engaging bodies each connected with one side of said frame, a resilient connection between each of said bodies and said unit, and a connection between the said bodies designed to extend beneath the chin of a wearer.

Face massaging means, comprising a head unit including a horizontal encircling band designed to extend across the forehead, a pin carried by said band at the center of the forehead, a frame having an upper portion and a lower portion, the lower portion comprising a pair of downwardly divergent resilient arms, a button carried by the upper portion of the frame for detachable connection with said pin, a pair of cheek engaging bodies each joined to one of said arms, and a resilient connection between each of said bodies and said head encircling band.

Face massaging means, comprising a head unit including a horizontal encircling band designed to extend across the forehead, a pin carried by said band at the center of the forehead, a frame having an upper portion and a lower portion, the lower portion comprising a pair of downwardly divergent resilient arms, a button carried by the upper portion of the frame for detachable connection with said pin, a pair of cheek engaging bodies each joinedto one of said arms, connecting means between each of said cheek engaging bodies and the head encircling band, comprising a tab provided with a plurality of apertures, and a resilient connection between the tab and the adjacent body, a button carried by the head encircling band at each side for engaging in the aperture of a tab, and a band connecting said cheek engaging bodies together and designed for extension beneath the chin of a wearer.

A face massager adapted to be mounted on the head, comprising a pair of cheek contacting bodies of non-resilient material, means adapted to be mounted on the head having said bodies connected therewith and adapted to support the same, and a resilient frame element supported by said means and having the cheek contacting bodies secured thereto, said resilient frame element normally resiliently resisting movement of said cheek contacting bodies apart during movement of the cheeks.

6. A face massager adapted to be mounted on the head, comprising a pair of cheek contacting bodies, means adapted to be supported on the head for supporting the bodies, means connecting and resiliently tending to hold the bodies ina prescribed position in opposition to movements of the cheeks, and a chin massaging band connecting the cheek contacting bodies.

A face massager adapted to be mounted on the head, comprising a pair of cheek contacting bodies of non-resilient material, means adapted to be mounted on the head having said bodies connected therewith and adapted to support the same, a resilient frame element supported by said means and having the cheek contacting bodies secured thereto, said resilient frame element normally resiliently resisting movement of said cheek contacting bodies apart during movement of the cheeks, and a chin massaging band connecting the cheek contacting bodies.

8. A face massager adapted to be mounted on the head, comprising a head supported frame, a pair of cheek contacting bodies of non-resilient material, resilient connecting means between each of said bodies and the head supported frame, a unit attached to the head supported frame and having a pair of downwardly diverging resilient arms, each of said cheek engaging bodies being attached to an arm, and a chin massaging strip joining said cheek contacting bodies.

9. A face massager adapted to be mounted on the head, comprising a head supported frame, a pair of cheek contacting bodies of non-resilient material, resilient connecting means between each of said bodies and the head supported frame, and an elongated unit connected at one end to said head supported frame and having downwardly divergent arms designedto position upon opposite sides of the nose of a wearer of the mas sager, each of said cheek engaging bodies being connected to an'arm and resiliently maintained thereby in contact with the cheek.
